  • If you camp with kids or toddlers, you NEED this tent
Style: 10-person Pattern Name: Cabin Tent
This is the first product I've ever purchased that has actually compelled me to write a review because it's been fabulous on our trips with our 3 and 6 year old. We bought the 10 person, dark room instant set up version. Unfortunately, I didn't take many pictures in action but have attached a few from airing it out/debugging. PROS: - Ease of assembly - This is the first large tent we've owned, but it takes less time for two adults to put this up than our traditional two person pole tent, it's SO EASY you can put it up by yourself. Not having to find which poles go where and threading them through nylon sleeves while keeping a 3 year old out of the ashes of the fire pit has made our camping experience approximately 100x more enjoyable. - THE DARK ROOM TECHNOLOGY. If you're trying to camp with kids and keep a relatively normal bedtime in the summer when it's light out until 10pm, you need this tent. Our kids actually slept longer camping than they do with their blackout curtains at home. Walking outside in the morning to the blazing sun at 8am while you've been in near total darkness is pleasantly jarring. We haven't been in a hot enough situation yet to see if it turns the place into a sauna or keeps it cooler but I imagine it could be the latter. - Size - we're able to fit a queen size blow up mattress and two single mats next to each other on the short side leaving the other end of the tent for getting dressed/keeping gear and doing activities in the rain. - Pack up ease/weight - as easy as this is to put up, it's not much more difficult to put away and there is ample room in the bag to stuff it back in. It's also pretty light for such a large tent and a normal size adult can easily carry it by themselves without throwing their back out. CONS leading to the one star deduction, but none of which have been dealbreakers: - Lack of stability w/o rain fly - The version we bought did come with the rain fly and that's really necessary if you want to take full advantage of the dark room. However, if you want the top open, don't expect to be able to do that in high wind conditions because the top of the tent is not very sturdy without the fly on and fully staked. Even then, there is some floppiness on the actual tent toward the top on the short ends you can see in the photos. - Sticky door zippers - While the rigid door feature is nicer than it being flappy and needing to be (un/re)zipped all of the time, the overall functionality of the door is pretty frustrating. The zippers are getting easier to use the more we use them oddly enough, but the fabric still gets stuck in them constantly. - Not entirely waterproof - It did rain quite a bit on our most recent trip and one of our sleeping bags by a window did get damp, however nothing got drenched and it was not enough water to figure out where the leak actually came from. - Color options - It'd be nice if the dark room technology came in a more traditional color - I'm not typically a bright neon fan. That said, the kids love it and it's easy to spot when walking back from the bathrooms in the dark. - Room divider - this thing is not great, as it doesn't fasten in enough places and leaves a large gap on the side. (see picture) - Floor durability - We already have a few holes in the bottom. This is probably on us a bit, as we didn't completely clear our sites of rocks or steer clear of roots. However, we did have a commercial grade tarp underneath that does not have holes in the same places - it seems to have come from wear/walking on the tent surface over something hard underneath, not actual pokes. (See picture) - Flimsy stakes - it comes with the traditional L- stakes which appear to be for the tent, but they bend so easily that it's worth spending another 10 bucks to replace them with the nice plastic topped, heavy duty kind. It does come with only 6 of those that I assume are for the fly ties? ... show more

  • Not a Wet Weather Friend!
Style: 10-person Pattern Name: Cabin Tent
The setup instructions were not super easy to understand, but once we figured out what needed to be done in what order, it was simple enough to set up well. One definitely needs more than one person to set it up. Unfortunately, our camping trip of five days was rainy and water crept in enough to require several sessions of mopping up the interior with towels. There were small holes in the fly and the tent itself though I don't think these small holes (despite the fact that there should not be holes in a brand new tent) were not the cause of the water intrusion. As best we can figure, the water came in through the zipper seams as the tent structure is angled to allow significant water to roll down the surface continually. The black out works beautifully so the tent would probably be great in good weather. The ceiling under the fly has a generous amount of netting, which provided for constant cold breezes throughout the day and evening - not a super pleasant experience in cold weather camping - but lots of fresh air with all windows and doors sealed. The concept and ingenuity of design is creatively genius but the overall result is somewhat lacking. Were it not for the amount of water intrusion, we would have kept it and enjoyed it many times over. ... show more

  • Great tent, spacious, and darklight curtains work very well
Style: 10-person Pattern Name: Cabin Tent
Our family used this on a trip and it was very easy to set up (I did it alone). However, due to my inexperience with tents in general, it still took me around 30 minutes to figure out how it went up, and it does take a lot of prep to actually get the large tent up. I needed to ask help from other campers in getting it to stand right. When it was put up though, it provides a lot of space, and the curtains keep out the light exceptionally well. It has placed to store glasses when you are sleeping and provides enough room for four people to sleep comfortably. I wouldn't put anyone else in the tent though, and there isn't enough room to really maneuver, and when the curtains are up it's so dark, you'll need a flashlight just to walk around. ... show more

  • Withstood three nights of heavy rain
Style: 10-person Pattern Name: Cabin Tent
Several positive qualities. 1. We had pretty heavy rains and winds for three nights on our first camping trip with this tent and the only rain inside the tent was when my 6 year old daughter left the door unzipped. Other than this minor snag the inside of the tent was dry! We also had no issue when it came to the amount of winds that went along with the thunderstorms. 2. Lots of windows to keep air flowing - it was also super hot during our camping trip. 3. Plenty of space inside. I had a queen sized air mattress on one side and two of my children slept on the second side of the interior. There was plenty of room for my other two children - total of 5 sleeping bags would have easily fit along with our little camp table. I loved that I could stand up in the tent without issue (5’8”). 4. Easy to set up. As a single parent of 4 (11,7,6,2) I needed a tent I could set up quickly by myself. Set it up the first time in about 20 minutes making sure I followed the directions. Second set up cut that in half. It took me longer to pound the ground anchors than it did setting the tent up. 5. The interior blackout was a Godsend for my two year old. He easily took his nap when I closed the windows during the day - it was pitch dark inside then. 6. The D door was another big perk for me - my 6 and 7 year old were able to open and close the door without issue (except in the middle of the night). They have a tendency to be a bit rough on tent zipper doors and the D door helped immensely! Two down sides but not major issues. The tent is pretty heavy. I managed to carry it but would not want to carry it for any distance of more than a 50 feet at a time. Second it would have been nice to have side floor vents to help with air flow during the rain. We didn’t have an issue because the temp cooled during the night when the rain came through but I could see this as a possible issue if it had not. ... show more
