🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Coleman Cabin Tent is a spacious, easy-to-set-up, and comfortable camping tent praised primarily for its roominess, ventilation, and 'porch' feature. With its ability to stand firm during strong monsoons and keep the interiors dry, it has scored high among campers. However, it does require additional investments in terms of a longer carry bag and durable stakes. It is cooler than average tents and might require floor insulation. There are reports of missing loops and issues with leakage that can potentially be fixed with seam sealers.

Pros

  • 🏕 Spacious interiors with a partition option for privacy
  • ⛺ Easy to assemble even for a single person
  • 💦 Holds up well against strong rain and winds
  • 🌞 Good ventilation with large windows

Cons

  • 👜 Requires a longer replacement carry bag
  • 📌 Need to purchase durable stakes separately
  • 🌬 Colder than average tents
  • 💧 Potential problems with leakage at the center edge
  • 🔵 Missing loops and poorly constructed tie-backs

Should I Buy It?

If you are an avid camper and don't mind investing a little extra on items like stakes, a carry bag and weatherproofing treatments, this tent offers good value for money with its spaciousness, resilience against bad weather, and ventilation. However, it's essential to note its temperature and potential leakage issues.

  • IT'S FREAKING HUGE!!!
Style: 6-person Porch
6-person tents are always pretty big, but how big is this one? "Big" doesn't begin to describe it. The photos don't begin to describe it. Even the listed dimensions barely let you visualize it. But it hits you when you unroll it and set it up. It's cavernous, colossal, gargantuan, Brobdingnagian. It's FREAKING HUGE. You could set up most other 6-person tents *inside* this one and they would barely brush the ceiling. If the doorway opened wider you could park a small car inside of it. I'm not joking! You really could; this tent is larger than a standard 'compact car' parking space. The interior dimensions are 13' long and 10' wide, but that's only the main room. When you add the fly and the screened vestibule/front porch (easily big enough for three chairs) you've got a covered/screened area of more than 160 square feet. Is this beast of a tent a bear to assemble? Considering its sheer size, it goes up fairly easily. One person can set it up in 20 minutes or less, but it takes less than 10 minutes for two people. The corded fiberglass poles are long and unwieldy, but there are only 4 of them and they're color-coded so it's hard to go very wrong. Take note: it's *not* a freestanding tent. The corners need to be staked down, as do the front wings of the fly. We all know this can be a hassle if the soil is rocky, so that might be a purchase consideration. The tent and vestibule have waterproof bathtub floors with a section of mesh between them, so any rainwater that falls on the porch can drain through to the ground instead of pooling next to the tent door. The vestibule is fully screened and zippered to keep critters out. A different version of the tent has a larger fly which fully encloses the vestibule. The main room measures 13' long and 10' wide. The rear and side walls have giant screened windows, which also zip up for privacy. The roof is screened and open to the sky, and if you're not concerned with rain or dew you can leave the fly off and see the stars. Privacy is fine with the fly off because the roof is so tall. It all packs down into a carry bag about the same size as a bulky rectangular sleeping bag roll. The tent and bag are compressed for shipping, but the bag has a clever expansion seam on its long side. The tent fits pretty easily back into the bag when it's time to break camp. If you're looking for a truly enormous tent for 'clamping' or large-family camping, this beast has all the room you'll need. The biggest question is whether you need this much tent! ... show more

  • Requires stakes, great floor plan
Style: 4-person Enclosed Porch
I love the design of this tent. The three separate, covered spaces are wonderful. It is a bit of a pain dealing with 3 zippers for middle-of-the-night trips to the bathroom while trying not to wake the others. We didn’t stake down the rain fly- it was fine. We placed the kids’ bikes and our chairs in that front space to keep things dry from morning dew and secure. The “entry way” section was a great place for us all to take off our shoes without tracking dirt into the sleep space. With the rain fly zipped closed, this entryway (the middle space) has privacy. I used this space to get dressed. The biggest drawback of this tent is the need for it to be staked down. The fully screened porch with a floor and protection from the elements makes it worth it. Other negatives include limited side-pockets for convenient storage. The pockets that are there are on the backside of the tent. So if you forgot your car keys there, you now are going through 3 sets of zippers and then going to the far side of the tent to retrieve them. There is also a lack of hooks and places to hang things. We put a slim flashlight in a storage pocket, and used a binder clip to attach another light. There is also limited options on how to attach your own privacy sheet. The kids are in travel bunks, so we used binder clips to attach to the window screen covering and draped that over the bunks. I got both size tents. The four-person one had a hole in the rain fly. I don’t know if it arrived that way or if it somehow happened during my initial set-up. The 6-person one has no holes and is significantly more spacious. If you are on the fence on which size to get, get the 6 person. ... show more

  • Love the space
Style: 6-person Enclosed Porch
We go on extended camping trips and take more than average clothes, boots, etc... I love the amount of space for use and all our gear. My biggest concern was height on the wall sides being vertical enough to stand up in when walking around the queen bed we use, that's on a bed stand. I could not have been happier. The walls are pretty darn close to straight up, so when you get out of bed you can easily stand without touching the walls. Ours is the 6 person version with the full rain fly and it's amazing the space that the screened porch adds to getting in and out without getting the bed area wet or dirty when coming in from the elements. We have camped for almost 50 yrs and this may be my favorite tent ever. My husband and I put it up and done, in less than 20 minutes on our 1st setup. No issues. Watch the setup video that they have with the product info, after that, following the instructions with the tent is a breeze. Poles are heavy duty, and so far the zippers (which is always the 1st to go with us) glide effortlessly with nice big grippers, so they are easy to use. The door openings are wonderful. They are wide so you can move stuff in and out easily without getting caught up. Sleeping under the stars without the rain fly is our preference and the screen mesh windows and ceiling is great for viewing and ventilation, but if needed rainfly up in seconds if surprise storm comes thru. Have only used once, just got the tent. But from experience, I can tell, this is a great purchase. ... show more
