  • Effective for heat but takes some practice to get right
Size: 35.4 x 78.7 Inch Color: Black-silver
Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out. I bought two large rolls to cover a sliding glass door in my office that gets sun all day. With the summers getting hotter and electricity getting more expensive, this seemed like a good short term fix until i can save enough to replace the window. The rolls of film arrived with the correct dimensions, which was fantastic because I only had an inch allowance on each side. I don't have any data to support this, but I have noticed a considerable difference in temperature in the room where it was installed. I work in the room for 9-10 hours a day, so I'm a pretty decent judge of how hot it gets. I can now leave my house AC at 79 and work comfortably in this room with a small desk fan even when it's 100 out and sunny. I was installing it by myself on a large window, which was very difficult to maneuver. Thankfully, with PLENTY of water (like if you think you've put on enough water, you should probably double it) the film was very easy to slide around until I had gotten it to the right place. I think anyone with some home maintenance skills could install it, and it would certainly be helpful to have a second set of hands for any large windows. I have two complaints with the product: firstly, the sticker that had the installation instructions left adhesive on the film that I couldn't remove, so I have two little ugly patches in the corners of the windows. Secondly, the instructions said to use a hair dryer to fix any folds or warps. I tried this on a small warped area near the top, and it warped the film so badly that it created a bubble that I couldn't remove. It would have been nice if the kit included a squeegee and knife, but I was able to pick those up at a local hardware store without hassle. As clearly stated in the description, it reduces the heat from the window and gives you excellent daytime privacy if that is a concern. I would buy this product again if i needed to cover another window in the future. ... show more

  • Installation is a bit tricky
Size: 23.6 x 118.1 Inch Color: Pure
The film itself is quite nice, but installation takes a bit of time, especially if you're a perfectionist like me, and it never comes out quite right. I thoroughly cleaned and prepped the windows, scraped the glass with a razorblade, and used tons of water, but I still notice imperfections around the edges. The hardest part was cutting the edges of the film off. First of all, make sure to use a brand new utility knife blade, and change often if you're doing multiple windows. This is SUPER important. Because you are instructed to leave an extra inch of film around the area you need to cover, the film rests on the window frame and is slightly pulled away from the edges of glass prior to cutting. You have to try to hold it down when cutting, to get the straightest cuts and not end up with huge gaps. And don't just cut straight from top to bottom or side to side. You have to start cutting from each end or the blade may veer off center once you reach the other end. The film also seems to adhere best if you leave approx. 1/16" space from the edges of the window (especially if you have wood window frames). If you try to cut the film flush with the frame, the edges inevitably peel up. The first window I did, I cut flush with the frame, and it is the worst one. In some areas the film was so close to the frame that is was getting "pushed away" from the glass. I had to go back and try to cut slivers of film away from the frame. It's more challenging than one might think to cut it perfectly straight. You'd think the edge of the window would be a helpful guide, but it's not, especially, if you try to leave a sliver of space between the film and the frame. If you have double hung windows, cutting around the window lock adds an additional challenge. It looks fine in some lighting, but in others, I can see the imperfections around the edges. This may not bother some people, but I'm the type to fixate, and I really wish I could get it to look perfect all the way to the edges. ... show more

  • Works just as intended/expected and fairly easy application
Size: 17.5 x 78.7 Inch Color: Pure
I needed a little privacy for my home office and really just to screen distractions of neighborhood kids and passers by because of the proximity of this window to the alley. I opted just to put this film in the middle and leave a gap below so I could see out to my dogs when they are in the yard doing their business! I followed the basic instructions - filled a water bottle with slightly [dish] soapy water and sprayed the window, then sprayed the smooth side of the film after removing the thin plastic. I didn't really measure perfectly, but eyeballed it for the first side (left) and used a blade knife to cut down the edge. I ended up with a tiny gap of about 2 mm on one side, but it's not noticeable unless you are up close directly in front of it. For the second window side, I tried to just trim it with extra to cover both sides, planning to trim it with the blade knife after applying the film to the window. This covered more precisely, but I felt like it was harder to cut exactly down the sides of the window, and then I had to peel away the sides and rewet the window and film to get a smoother cling. In either case, I'm OK with the film being a bit imperfect on the edges, and I'm sure someone who cared more and took a bit of time to be more precise would have no problems with a more perfect application. I don't know how this looks from the outside, or at night. It seems to be clinging pretty good after initial application and is completely smooth no bubbles). I had a new plastic putty knife I had gotten for a plaster paint project but didn't end up using, and it worked great as a squeegee to smooth all the bubbles and excess water. Definitely have a few paper towels on hand to wipe up the soapy water runoff when you apply the fil. Overall, much impressed and satisfied with covering my wide (70" width) window with less than a roll of film, for under $10. ... show more
