  • Pretty sturdy
Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
The tech support was great, do not use the offline controller and a laptop at the same time. It cuts out wood pretty easily and I like the all metal frame.

  • Every screw came in labeled baggies
Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive. * These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: I've been wanting to try CNC machining for a while but didn't want to drop serious cash on something I might not stick with. This looked like a good entry point to see if I'd use it. Likes: * Assembly took me maybe 20 minutes. Most of the frame was already put together and I just had to bolt on a few pieces. Every screw and bracket came in separate baggies with letters that matched the instruction diagrams. * The aluminum frame has actual weight to it and the joints are solid. I was expecting more plastic parts but the frame is mostly aluminum and steel. It doesn't wobble when the spindle is running, even when I'm cutting into harder materials. * The offline controller is handy. I can load my files onto an SD card and run jobs without keeping my computer tied up. The little screen shows what's happening and lets me control the spindle speed manually. * I ran the spindle into the edge once and it stopped right away instead of trying to push through. The red button's bigger than I expected and easy to smack if something goes wrong. No likes: * You need to buy software separately. It comes with some test files but nothing to create your own designs. That was an extra 150 bucks on top of the machine price. * The working area is pretty small. You can fit maybe a phone case or small sign but forget about doing anything big. * The spindle gets really hot when carving. I can smell the motor heating up and the metal housing is too hot to touch. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: This is a good starter CNC for someone who wants to learn without spending thousands. The build quality surprised me and it handles wood and plastic really well. Just budget extra for software and don't expect to carve anything huge. ... show more

  • I Bought a CNC Machine to Bring to Job Fairs. The Kids Are Going to Love This Thing.
Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
I'm involved with a manufacturing nonprofit. We do job fairs, outreach events, career days. the kind of programming designed to show young people that there are paths into skilled trades and manufacturing that don't require four years of sitting in a lecture hall. The goal is always the same: get them interested in something before they've decided they're not interested in it. A while back, a company called Haas showed up to one of our events with a full CNC router and let kids engrave their own name tags on it. I watched this happen in real time. Kids who had spent their entire lives looking at screens suddenly couldn't look away from a machine cutting their name into a piece of material with complete precision. The line to use it didn't get shorter all day. Haas got more positive attention at that event than anything else we put together, and they deserved it. The problem was that I couldn't call Haas every time we had an event and ask them to load up an industrial CNC machine and drive it out to wherever we were setting up tables. That's not a scalable request. So I started looking for something I could own, transport, and operate myself. small enough to fit in a truck, capable enough to demonstrate the actual concept, and able to make a name tag without requiring a setup process that eats the first hour of every event. That's what this machine is. It's a 3018 format, all-metal construction, hobby-grade CNC router with an offline controller, and it fits the specific job I bought it for. I've tested it at home. I haven't taken it to an event yet, but I've run it through enough to know that it will do exactly what I need it to do: cut name tags for kids and make a machine that most of them have never seen up close look interesting and accessible. Is it a Haas? No. It is not a Haas. It doesn't pretend to be. It's a hobby machine with hobby-level limitations, and if you approach it expecting industrial tolerances and production speed, you're going to have a bad afternoon. The work area is small, the spindle has a ceiling on what materials it'll handle efficiently, and there's a learning curve to the software and setup that requires some patience. None of that surprised me, and none of it changes what I need it to do. For hobbyists doing light engraving, small woodworking projects, or personal maker work, this is a genuinely solid machine at this price point. For my purposes, which are different from most reviews you'll find here, it's the right tool entirely. I run a construction company in addition to the nonprofit work, which means I know the difference between a tool that's built for one specific job and a tool that's trying to be everything. This one knows what it is. It does that thing well. When the first kid watches their name appear in a piece of wood at one of our events and looks up like they just saw something impossible, this machine will have done exactly what I paid for it to do. ... show more

  • A great intermediate CNC machine
Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
I have been looking to get into CNC work to augment my woodworking and even thought about building my own machine. For the cost, this @WolfPawn CNC machine can't be beat. Assembly took about 30 minutes with the most difficult part being the installation of the controller to the frame. Once assembled, I was able to get their demo file loaded and carved in the provided material using the onboard controller software. I followed the directions which were surprisingly easy to understand. I setup the z-axis without the sensor to see how accurately it would cut. Overall, the sample file ran great and the result was an 8 out of 10. I have an older laptop that I will use to control the CNC machine and have to install the software and drivers. The primary use will be for custom inlay work and cutting out of letters to customize some of the products I build. I'm not concerned about the size for now. The machine runs fairly quitely and didn't notice any overheating. Operation is smooth as the spindle runs through it's programming. Once I have the interface to the computer setup I will try and update this review. But for now, I'm very happy with this machine and I'm glad I decided not to build my own. A great piece of equipment that I believe should provide me with years of service until I outgrow it's capacity. ... show more

Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
This is a nice little CNC routing setup. It's a good place to get started. Does a nice job. Little bit of a learning curve on software but after you're through with that the sky's the limit. Good value for the money spent. Stable good design built with quality materials.

  • Good starter CNC machine
Color: 3018-with Offline Controller
Despite being pretty compact, this is not a flimsy, poorly made CNC Router Machine. This is solidly built, well made, with additional thought being put in for safety features an emergency stop button in addition to the six limit switches. Physical set up of the machine did not take very long - more than the 15 minutes the manufacturer claimed, but I was also going very slowly and double, triple checking each step to ensure that it was properly done. Once set up, it is very stable, no wobble and no areas that felt weak or like it could cause unnecessary wiggle while in use. It's great that an offline touch controller was included to allow for operation of the spindle and motor without having to use your computer, and it should allow for small adjustments on the fly, but I haven't attempted that just yet. This specific model is a decent beginner or entry level CNC machine, don't expect to do anything too extreme with it, and I feel like the spindle is a bit small and anticipate there may be a bit of edge clean up on some pieces, post carving. I feel like you should anticipate some clean up with most CNC machines, especially with wood as your main working material, because wood itself is an imperfect material which can cause some issues, and smaller spindles can have a bit of jitter when carving. There are test boards and test programs provided but you should be aware, as the seller states, that those are just test programs so you can ensure the machine actually works. This isn't going to be an out of the box, get it put together and use it right away machine, if you want to be able to get the most out of this machine, you should be prepared to pay for an actual CNC programming software, and you should have an understanding of how CNC programming works. Once you get the hang of it, it's not at all difficult to use, although for novices, it does have a learning curve to it, so I recommend getting extra practice boards until you have that "A-HA!" moment, and then it becomes about as complicated as, say, a Cricut machine. There are loads of videos online that can help guide you through using the machine, and CNC programs, but temper your expectations on what this machine can do - I noticed a lot of creators have more advanced machines, and while this machine can do a fair amount, it's not going to be able to perform the way a $1,000+ machine can. All in all, I'd rate this a very good, well build beginner or introductory CNC machine, that has good safety features and is capable to creating a decent range of items/designs. It's a good investment for exploring CNC routers and learning how CNC Programming works. ... show more
