Our new sink came with a wood cutting board. We also had a charcuterie tray that was wood and both had not been treated to protect them from staining or absorbing liquids. I applied the Clark's wood oil first as indicated on the directions, doing two applications and letting it sit on the board for 24 hours each time then finished with a coat of the Clark's Finish wax. They look amazing and now I don't have to worry about stains or food absorption. Great products and it smells amazing!

i never knew that i needed to maintain my wood cutting boards and cooking utensils. but as they got drier and drier over time, i thought that they didn't look like the ones professional chefs use and keep for decades -- why? and also, my favorite cutting board - perfect size and thickness for me, with a hook at the end that makes it easy to keep anywhere/anyhow i want - not only was getting so dry and developing a crack, i thought maybe i could just douse it with a cooking oil and see what happens? then I cut a bunch of onions on it and i couldn't get the smell out. it reeked no matter what i tried - baking soda/vinegar, soaking it in hot soapy water, applying dish soap over and over to keep it moist. sad, i looked up how to maintain these things. i came across this stuff. first i soaked the board in food grade mineral oil over and over - i applied a thick layer 4 times to each side and it completely soaked in each time. then i applied a thick layer of this stuff on both sides for 24 hours and then washed it off. SAVED!! it smells awesome now. it's clearly protected now from liquids and smells from food. i cut onions on the board this morning and it washed up perfectly with the lovely citrus smell from this wax. i applied a light layer of it for a while that i will wash off in a few hours just in case. but YAY!! thank you!! working on all my other boards and the utensils now.

The citrus smell is nice, and, although the product is a little thick like paste, it goes on easily and is absorbed into the wood pretty well. I put a fairly thick coat on a new cutting board and let it sit overnight. In the morning, I added a little more and spread it around. After a few hours, I checked it again and spread the remaining oil around again. That night, I did the other side. I reapplied a thin coat after a couple of weeks, and again after a month. So far, this has kept my new board looking great and it shows no signs of drying out. Only time will tell...

I bought this wax, the board soap, oil, and the applicator sponge. I wish I had bought it years ago! I've been struggling with trying to keep smells off my board without using too much regular dish soap, which I thought would dry it out or damage it. The Clarks soap worked great - took the lingering onion and garlic smells right off. I applied the Clarks oil and allowed to sit for the 24 hours. I could already tell this was much better than the junk board oil I've been buying from other places - just much smoother and richer - right when I put it on. It looked like a whole new board after 24 hours! This wax is the best though, seriously. I also could never figure out why my board never had that smooth sheen like the boards they use on Food Network - the wax has got to be it! my board looks dark and is silky smooth after applying the wax. Amazing! I did purchase and use the applicator sponge. It definitely made it easier to spread the oil and wax around. Would something else work just as good? Maybe, but easier just to get this one and know it works!

Glad that I researched how to oil and buff a wooden cutting board, because in doing so I helped save the health of myself and my boards! You don't need to do so very frequently and a little goes a long way especially if you have smaller boards, so this finishing wax is definitely a worthy investment in my book.
