  • Promising but with severe issues (Updated review + score)
Style: 4x4 HDMI USB 2.0
Update: The KVM started failing for one of the monitors for the past couple of months (it would not wake up one of the monitors unless I unplugged and plugged it). And this is with the replacement KVM. CKLau has been very helpful however, I got very quick responses. After months if trying to figure out what was wrong, I have finally narrowed it down to the fact that the KVM switch itself is severely underpowered, and it can't drive all the monitors at 4K when something else is drawing power from it as well. I was able to conclude this when I unplugged a small USB splitter that connected a Mouse and a Peripheral, both of which have LED's that drawn just enough power to make it unstable. Whenever I unplugged a device, the monitor would come back on. When I plugged it back in, sometimes the monitor would go blank. What I did was buy a powered USB HUB ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0B7WVY8QF ) to provide power to the Mouse and Peripheral, and then connected it to the KVM. This 100% solved all issues I had, and now all monitors will wake up as expected with zero issues. I like this KVM since it is fast with switching, and it's a small profile and doesn't take up much space, but they really need to re-work this device with more power because I really thought the two units I had were defective. And so did CKLau. I will keep the stars at 5 since it's working as intended now, but it is quite tricky to get it right, especially when you add a powered mouse like mine which draws enough power to mess up this KVM. # Previous Review: I am updating my review with this KVM after working with support from CKLau, and having resolved an issue I was having as described in my original review below. At the time of buying this KVM, I wasn't aware that CKLau also sold USB-C to HDMI adapters, so I had already bought different 3rd party adapters off Amazon, all of which failed to work well with Mac Studio and this KVM. It seemed odd that three different brands of cables (all same specs) would all fail in the exact same manner, so I had thought it was the KVM. But then I ordered a different set of cables which got to me before CKLau's adapters ( https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B085HC43Q9 ) and this totally resolved the problem for me. No more screens going in and out when waking up the Mac Studio. No more windows being rearranged, no more screens being rearranged. This is the first ever KVM I have used (and I had used 5 already) that solved a decades long Apple issue with multi-monitor support. It's clear that the built-in EDID emulation solves an issue caused by macOS, which tricks macOS into thinking that the monitors are still connected and turned on. When I get the CKLau USB-C to HDMI adapters, I will also test those and review them on their own page. But for now, my current cable setup is working well. This KVM is legit, it works well with Mac Studio (again, no more desktop, icon or screen rearranging on wake up) and it also works well with my Windows and Linux PCs. I am able to get Triple QHD/1440p @ 144Hz out of all my devices without issues with this KVM. Switching performance is fast, and operation is simple. And support was very quick and helpful. They were correct when pointing out the adapters I was using as likely being the problem. Please pay attention to this part: Not all adapters and cables are made equally, even if they have the same specs. That's important to know, at least for Mac users. # Previous Review: (Original review score: 3). The Bad I am having a major problem with this 4-port 4-monitor 4K@60Hz KVM. When my Mac goes to sleep and I wake it up, one or more monitors will go in and out every 15 - 30 seconds indefinitely. This is not an issue when I connect my Mac to my monitors directly without KVM, so I know it's the KVM. Only when I unplug everything and remove power from the KVM and put it all back together does it (temporarily) fix the problem. But if the Mac goes to sleep again, the problem will happen again. I can replicate this every single time. I even set the resolution of my QHD monitors down to 1080@60Hz and it didn't solve the issue. I am working with support right now hoping they can help me find a solution, but so far it's been "reconnect power" which doesn't do anything. But I do want to say that support does get back to you really quick, so that's good. The Good While I am having the issue above, the good news is that this KVM actually did solve a long standing issue I've had with other KVMs: It doesn't "disconnect" displays when you switch ports, so every PC and Mac I have connected will switch quickly, and WITHOUT making MacOS or Windows 10 rebuild my desktops by moving windows and icons to the wrong monitor. It seems the built-in EDID emulator is helping to solve this issue, for now (I would need more time to really know if this is a permeant fix). The hardware looks and feels high quality and you get all of the cables you need to connect 4 devices to 4 displays. I was confused at first by the lack of USB ports at the back to connect my devices, but it seems they're using some kind of CEC hack of the HDMI spec to use some backchannel to carry USB information for KB + Mouse. I'm not sure if this a good idea, but it seems to mostly work. For example: my mouse will power on, but it will not work if "Hot Key" is enabled, but I don't know if this is related to using the CEC hack on HDMI. Turning off "Hot Key" allows my mouse to work again. I also wonder if the CEC hack they're using is causing the video issues I am having as mentioned above. The box itself is much smaller than I thought it would be. It's about 3.5 inches high and I was able to fit it into a small space I set aside for it. And it's not really that heavy either. The pictures don't show it, but it does in fact come with a remote, and the remote port is on the front of the box. As for Resolution / Refresh support with Triple 2K/QHD monitors. Despite this saying it's rated for 4K@60Hz, it also works for 2K/1440@60Hz/100Hz/120Hz/144Hz. (But 120Hz shows up fuzzy on Mac.) Is It Worth It? I really want to like this product, but the issues with screens going in and out periodically and frequently is a major deal breaker, I can't work like this. Yet this is the only KVM that solves the issue with MacOS and Windows not rebuilding my desktop each time I switch ports thanks to EDID emulation. I certainly hope CKLau support can help, otherwise I will have to return and try to find something else. Maybe I just got a bad box, or bad cables (or both), but this is a persistent problem. I will update my review if they can fix this. ... show more

  • It works
Style: 4x4 HDMI USB 2.0
Since the pandemic, I've been working from home a lot more. My new job gave me a work laptop with a docking station that I have to use. At home, I have 3 monitors all in a row (I had 4th above the middle but it died). Both my laptop (11th gen i7) and my gaming computer (RTX3070) will do 4 monitors. I am using HDMI where possible, but have several DisplayPort to HDMI active adapters, they seem to do fine. The KVM works as expected and will switch between the two computers, but sometimes the laptop loses the 3rd monitor. This is infrequent, maybe once a week. The laptop thinks the monitor is there, but the monitor is getting no signal. To fix it I turn the docking station off and on or reboot the laptop. Turning the monitors off and on have no effect. I have changed video cables and adapters (it is one of the DP>HDMI) but it still happens. Switching is just a little slow because the computers have to rediscover all the USB devices and monitors. About 5 seconds before you can work on the computer you switched to. My biggest complaint is the mouse jumps around the screen randomly. This is SUPER annoying. The mouse pointer will go missing too. I have to do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and it comes right back to the center of the main monitor. I have to do this probably 5-6 times a day. I have tried different mice and get the same thing. Another quirk, I can't snap windows to the outside sides of the outside monitors. (Far left and right sides). I have to use the Windows key + left/right arrow. I can do it on the inside monitor's edges, or even into corners. My gaming PC does not seem to be affected by the KVM. I'm not a hardcore gamer but have had no issues running AC Odyssey/Vahalla or God of War at max settings, but I also only have 1080p monitors. So the RTX3070 is barely breaking a sweat. This is being a little nit-picky, but the RGB lights on my keyboard don't work. The Logitech software says it can't connect to the G910 keyboard to control the lights, but has no problem with the RGB Logitech mouse. I thought the USB 2.0 chipset could be the problem, so I asked the tech support if the USB 3.x model was going to be coming out soon. They said they were working on it, but wouldn't be probably until 2023. For the money, this is a good KVM, the next cheapest quad monitor KVM was almost twice as much. Most others were well over $1000, so I will live with the quirks. ... show more
