    • Fantastic Looking and functioning Dive Watch

For background this is my 3rd citizen watch, and my first diver from them. I'm a fairly serious hobbiest watch collector and own lots of watches from different brands of different styles. I picked this up on the amazon prime day sale for $200, which for a watch like this is an absolute steal. The case: There's nothing really to write home about here. The case has a lower profile than I would have expected and it doesn't feel as heavy as I would have thought. I also own a citizen titanium sportswatch and the whole bit doesn't feel as heavy as this one, but it's not drastically different. It would be nice if the caseback was more interesting or see-through but that's not a deal breaker. It's a nice size and looks good on my 7.5in wrist. If you have a smaller wrist it may feel a bit too big, and an Orient mako may be a better option for you. The band: The band has a expander that makes it easy to perform microadjustments without having to take pins out. This is a great feature for being able to adjust to hot and cold weather (or in and out of water) quickly and easily for comfort. I took two links out and adjust this as I need to. It's comfy and easy to use. Great work here. The dial: The dial is the best part of the watch. It's both appropriate as a dive watch and classy enough that it has some pizaaz and sparkle to what feels like a voyage into the sea. The fade to light blue looks like it would mirror coming up out of the water. The time indicies are all rectangles except for the 12 o'clock triangle. And they look great in that faint green color. The hands: The mercedes / peace sign hand for the hour is a really nice touch. When It's partially skeletoned so when you see it in full lume in the dark (assuming while diving) there's a big difference between the hour and minute hand. This little trick makes it much easier to read while scuba diving. The Lume: The lume is great. Blue, bright, and just fantastic. The hands, indicators, and 12 o'clock on the bezel insert are lumed. The bezel and insert: The bezel is great. The clicks have a fluid feel to them. The insert not so much. It's aluminum and looks / feels cheap. I like that the bezel sits the insert above the crystal, so even though it's mineral I'm not worried about it getting scratched. I do worry that the insert will scratch easily and at the full price point I would have hoped there would be a ceramic bezel with more lume. This is something you can get with a $120 addiesdive ordered direct from China, and citizen should have done more here. These are supposed to be seiko SKX bezel compatible so I may upgrade it with something from LCBI. Crown: The crown is nothing special other than it has an engraving on the end. A lot of people like this, but nobody ever really sees it and I don't think it's that interesting of a feature. I wish instead of an engraving they would have installed crown protectors in the case. It both makes the watch sturdier and looks better than a little knob sticking out for the crown. Movement, instructions, and setting the time: The movement is an in-house automatic, either a Miyota 8204. It seems to be keeping good time, but I don't really regulate to the point where I care about losing a few seconds per day. It's running great and running regularly. The watch doesn't come with instructions, however if you've ever used a dive watch before (that isn't a vokstok) this one functions pretty much the same way as any of them. Plus once you register with the app it gives you the option to download instructions. Like just about all other watches certified at 200m or more, the crown screws down. So you'll need to unscrew it. Position 1 sets the day and date, position 2 sets the hours and minutes. The movement is "hacking" so the seconds hand will stop when you pull the crown into position. I don't care about hacking for accuracy down to the second (if I wanted that I'd use a radio controlled watch, not an automatic), but this makes the watches much easier to work on if one day I want to replace the hands or do any work on it. All in all it's a fantastic watch, a japanese diver offered at not much more than chinese bargain brand prices. At under $300, it's an absolte steal. ... show more

This is one of those watches you have to see and feel in person. Looking at the watch on your wrist in direct light, somehow puts one the visual affect that pulls you in to admire that blue mysterious dial. I know it sounds silly but trust me when I say this watch is as stunning to look at as it is durable. The bracelet is comfortable, and the case sits on the wrist beautifully. This is an excellent time piece! Also I did purchase the used version at a very persuasive discount almost $100 off. It came with the fun little diving tank case, and there is not one blemish or scratch or defect I can find. As far as I’m concerned the watch I got, is brand new. People! You watch enthusiasts that’s reading this and trying to decide on this or an eco drive, GET THIS while it’s hot! ... show more

Happy new watch owner here. I lost my year long NY004 diver in the waves of the ocean, so I looked to find replacement. After some searching and realizing, that getting a new NY004 is not that easy, I went for the NY0129, also blue dial and metal bracelet. It runs more accurate than my previous watch (I know, this is chance), but less than 10 seconds every 24 hours fast is very OK. It feels higher, but I like that, the mm less in diameter in comparison to my previous watch does not fall into weight here. While searching, the price dropped, which was the final push I needed, excellent price for this watch. I currently wear it with a canvas strap, I prefer the looks, but will always change back and forth between this one and the more elegant bracelet. It is comfortable to wear, not heavy, but still feels very solid. Great contrast dial and good lume, although I think it doesn't hold the luminosity as long as my NY004 did. This is a solid dive watch overall, but there are a few details worth knowing before buying. What I Like Design & comfort: The blue dial looks great, and the micro-adjustable band is a big win — it makes the watch feel fantastic on the wrist. Build quality: The case feels sturdy, and it carries that classic Promaster dive watch look. Everyday usability: Easy to wear daily and has the water resistance to back up the dive style. What Could Be Better Lume: It works, but it’s weaker than I expected. The lume dot at the top looks a little cheap compared to the rest of the watch. Band pins & sleeves: Removing links is frustrating — you have to be very careful with the pin/sleeve system, which makes resizing harder than it should be. Price: After buying, I found it cheaper from other sellers, which stings a bit. Overall I really like this watch and plan to keep it — the comfort and look make it a great daily wear piece. But for the price, I wish the lume was stronger and the bracelet design (pins/sleeves) was more user-friendly. Still, if you want a dependable, stylish diver, it’s a strong option. ... show more

Just received this watch a couple of days ago and am super impressed with this watch especially only paying the invitational deal at $199 . The watch is a professional ISO rated diver with a stunning blue textured dial with solid end-link and solid stainless steel bracelet with a very nice milled clasp with a very good ratcheting diver extension system. It also has a beautiful domed almost boxed mineral crystal as well. The case is listed at 41.4 mm in diameter but on the wrist it looks more like a 39-40 mm watch . The watch is a thick one though at almost 14 mm and lug to lug it’s 50 mm . To me it has a vintage 62MAS vibe or look to it but because of its proportions it wears a lot like my Orient Triton with power reserve. It also has fantastic lume very comparable to my Seiko diver watches . This watch bracelet is a pin and collar system so if you never sized one yourself definitely take to a watch repairman who knows what he’s doing. Overall very pleased with this new Citizen’s diver and at the price point that Amazon offered it was a no brainer. My only niggle with this watch is the clasp is a bit long with no micro adjustments and you basically are using the diver extension as a micro adjustment to get the proper fit . I took out two links and pulled the diver extension out one click and fits perfect. I’d also add that because of the case thickness it’s a little top heavy but with proper sizing of the bracelet you can get a good fit . Short version - there are better watches on the market in this highly competitive price range. The Good :- It’s a handsome watch with classic Citizen diver style. Case has a comfortable shape and sits nicely on your wrist. The Bad:- The bracelet is rubbish. When I unpacked the watch the bracelet fell apart in my hand. On examination I found 4 pins had been installed without the locking c-collar. I reached out to Citizen watch CS and they wanted to charge me $12 for 4 collars. Yes, this bracelet uses a pin and center collar system. To make it worse the other pins that had been installed with collars pushed put too easily. So the choice was to return this to Amazon OR pitch the bracelet into trash bin and fit an aftermarket strap. The Ugly:- The Citizen Miyota 8204 movement accuracy sucks. The 8204 is spec’d 20-40 seconds per day as per Miyota. My watch is loosing 2 minutes/day. To be honest the 8204 is a low end movement worth $20-30 retail. I threw it on my timegrapher for fun, and as expected it’s a hot mess. I’d classify this one as a dumpsterfire. Note - If you use a watch winder to keep your this watch running, this movement only winds Counter Clockwise at 650 tpd. It is not bi-directional. To conclude, I’d say this watch is a handsome looker, but the quality of the bracelet and movement are a fail. You are better off purchasing an Orient diver in the 150-250 price range, or get a used Tissot or Alpina off eBay which will blow the socks off this Citizen. In my humble opinion this watch isn’t worth more than $200. ... show more

I recently acquired the Citizen Men's Promaster Dive Automatic 3 Hand Silver Stainless Steel Watch, and I must say it has exceeded all my expectations. As a diving enthusiast, a reliable and robust dive watch is a must, and the Promaster Dive Automatic does not disappoint. The first thing that caught my attention is its elegant yet sporty design. The silver stainless steel case and bracelet give it a timeless and durable appearance. It looks just as great with a wetsuit as it does with formal attire.
