Description

A watch like this says you mean business. Crafted in stainless steel rose gold-tone with a black dial, luminous hands, date indicator and sophisticated brown leather strap. Featuring our Eco-Drive technology – powered by light, any light. Never needs a battery. Caliber number J165. Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting- edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy.

  • Six Eco-Drives
Color: Brown Strap/Rose Gold
This is my 6th Eco-Drive, and the only one that truly qualifies as a dress watch. It ships on a brown strap that can easily be switched. I don't have any problems with the strap. Like most factory-shipped leather straps, it's stiff at first but fine thereafter. The rose gold tone is not too "rosy," thankfully, and losing the second hand was a great idea. I've got Eco-Drives that are 20 years old or more and still running perfectly. I expect the same performance here! ... show more

  • Very nice watch!
Color: Brown Strap/Rose Gold
My every day watch replacing my old Citizen watch I've had for 12 years. I think I would prefer a metal band though. Didn't want to have a jeweler size it for me. All in all I like this watch very much!

  • Stiff band, not a deal breaker
Color: Black Strap/Stainless Steel
(*Update below*) Aside from the band, this watch is perfect. Classy, minimalist style, just as I wanted. Such an easy decision given the price and quality of Citizen Eco Drive technology. Can’t wait to wear it with a black tux at my wedding. The Band: based on reviews and photos, I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought it, so I would give it 4.5/5 stars if I could. The band is definitely stiff, as other reviews warned me, so it doesn’t sit quite right on my wrist without some maneuvering. I’m sure it will break in with time but I’m not crazy about the alligator leather and I’m also not a fan of the tapered width on an already thin band. I ordered a Ritche *genuine* leather band when I bought the watch, assuming I’d want to swap out the band, but didn’t realize it was also tapered just like the original Citizen band (see 3rd photo) so I’m returning it and ordering a Ritche *top grain* leather band instead, as it seems to be the same 20mm width throughout. Overall satisfied because of the price and quality of the product, not going to blame the watch for the style of band when I knew what I was buying ahead of time. *Update* I got the Ritche top grain leather band swapped in and now have the perfect watch to go with a black suit/tux! (See last photo) Would definitely recommend! ... show more

  • A great basic no frill watch
Color: Black Strap/Stainless Steel
Ah, yes. The Citizen Corso Eco-Drive Japanese watch. There are many out there as indicated by the reviews on Amazon, I now have one to call my own. Compared to all the modern watches with the latest tech, this one will take you back in time when the days were simpler and we had to download and print maps on mapquest just to get around town. I have one too many g-shocks and a clunky Garmin 'life saving' watch that would allow me to be dropped off anywhere in the world and be able to find my way home. Wearing these watches tho isnt formal event friendly. I bought this Corso as a "dress" watch to wear to weddings to make conversation about how inexpensive this watch is. It won't impress my snooty extended family members with their Omegas, Panerai, and over priced men's jewelry, however the function of letting them know when to stfu is spot on. I just look down at my watch and at any moments notice to tell them what time it is. What a bargain! But I digress... This Citizen watch will do what its suppose to do and tell the time accurately without having to worry about changing the batteries every few years. It has a very simple look and is easy to read without all that bling. There is no anxiety causing seconds hand, so it'll take a little getting used to. Time and Date is incredibly easy to set. I'm not sure why some people on here needs instructions to figure this out, to each their own I guess... In all honesty, I don't go to many weddings so buying this watch was a bit of a lost cause to fill a gaping void in my soul. It's nice to be ready whenever I get that flowerly invitation! ... show more

  • Great looking watch

Needed a longer band... Otherwise a great watch.

  • An almost perfect dress it up, dress it down watch
Color: Black Strap/Stainless Steel
Elegant, understated and timelessly stylish. Eco-Drive makes this a highly accurate and no maintenance watch. For the price, I didn't deduct a star for the mineral crystal. However the band is stiff and I immediately replaced it. My real rating is 4 1/2 stars because of the stiff band. As this is more of a dress/everyday watch the 30MM water resistance is not factored into my rating. ... show more

  • Simple, stylish
Color: Black Strap/Stainless Steel
I've never own a Citizen watch before and I'm very please with purchasing this particular watch. I wanted a watch with a black face and black leather band. I certainly made the right choice with this watch. It is simple in its presentation, very stylish and elegant looking. A nice large face, easy to read and if you weren't aware it does not have a second hand. I've grown to like that feature. Overall this is an excellent and beautiful time piece. ... show more

  • This has been my favorite watch since the day I received it
Color: Black Strap/Stainless Steel
This has been my favorite watch since the day I received it. I had reservations about owning a watch without a second hand, but the lack of one serves only to add to the solid feel of this watch. I set it on the day it arrived and to this day, I've not needed to adjust the minute hand at all. Sometimes when I'm still up at midnight, I hear my cell phone 'hum' to mark the beginning of a new day. When I look at my watch, it has been and continues to be as perfectly centered on the twelve o'clock mark as my eyes could ever detect and I'm a tad fastidious (ocd) when it comes to things like that. In fact, the second hand has been an issue with watches I've owned in the past. If it wasn’t clicking' exactly on the second markers around the face of the watch, I’d feel disappointed in the watch’s quality. As I write this, coincidently, I need to adjust the watch for Daylight Savings Time. (March 8. 2015) I received the watch on November 13, 2014. If things go as well as they have so far, I won't need to make any adjustments until Daylight Savings Time ends on November 1, 2015. Besides functioning as well as anyone could reasonably expect, this watch looks great. It’s easy to see the time at a glance, day or night. The hands and the hour markers around the face sparkle with a highly polished surface that I could have lived without, nevertheless, it has sort of grown on me and I really like it when I’m wearing it at formal affairs. The tiny window where the day of the month is displayed is a feature I could live without as well. I never really use it and if that’s something you want to use, you better have very good eyesight. All in all, I’m very pleased with this watch and I would recommend it to anyone without reservation. ... show more
