I picked up a bag of these recently to fill some St. Patrick's Day "pots of gold," and they worked out perfectly. The 1.5-inch size is much more impressive than the tiny coins you sometimes see in stores. They have a classic gold foil wrapping that looks great in a glass jar or scattered on a table for Hanukkah gelt. The chocolate itself is a solid milk chocolate—sweet and smooth. I was pleasantly surprised that the foil didn't flake off easily, which can sometimes be an issue with cheaper brands. These gold wrapped chocolate coins have a way of making a space feel instantly festive. I poured a bag into a glass jar on the counter and suddenly it looked like something you would see at a holiday party instead of a regular weekday kitchen. The coins are generously sized about a half dollar look and feel and the gold foil catches the light in a way that makes people stop and smile before they even grab one. The chocolate itself is smooth and familiar in a comforting way. It is the kind of milk chocolate that works for kids and adults without being too sweet or waxy. Every coin is wrapped on its own which made it easy to tuck a few into stockings and drop some into classroom reward bags without worrying about mess or handling. What I liked most was how flexible they were. They worked just as well for Hanukkah gelt as they did for Christmas treats and I can already picture them coming back out for a St Patricks Day leprechaun setup or a pirate themed treasure hunt.
