I found the sizing description very confusing. I decided to order the 40" size. Here's what I got.... The outer most measurement of the brackets is 39.5" wide. Meaning if you have a 40" niche that the shade has to fit in, there would be .25" left to space on each side of the brackets. The shade fabric itself turned out to be 38.5" wide. I intend to install this shade above my window frame. I was wanting the shade fabric itself to be wider. I will have to see if this is going to work or not. Might have to return. I'm trying to block out the light. I will have curtains too, so it might work. I just wanted to warn people what they will get so that they will order what they actually need, Update.... I decided to keep the size I ordered. The shade is very nice quality. Fabric on both sides. They are not like the old style of roller shades where you give them a tug and they violently spring upwards. They raise in a slow steady pace all the way to the top. If you want the shade to cover the upper half part of the window then you need to wait for the shade to go all the way to the top and then bring it back down to where you want it. They do block the light but it does peek out on the sides. But I have curtains for this problem. Also I had a little bit of an issue with installing. I found them to be hard to snap into the wall brackets. I found that you have to squeeze the part that snaps into the bracket and push pretty hard. If I had had a taller ladder I would have had more leverage to do so, but I don't have a lot of upper body strength and working above my head was challenging. I was able to do it though. I installed two shades and I suppose there was a learning curve. The second one was easier. Also I was screwing into wood and I needed to find some shorter screws than what they gave me for this purpose. But I definitely would order these shades again. ... show more

Easy to raise and lower, does not require six separate efforts to pull it down, you just pull it all the way down or you let it go and it goes all the way back up unless you give it a little jiggle and then it stops at various places along the way. translucent enough to let the light in and opaque enough for privacy. ... show more

I've bought several of these used through Amazon Marketplace. At the discounted rate I like them. The biggest downside is the color is only on one side. The other side is plain white. So if you have a darker color and roll it up all you see is the white portion.

Easy to install, lets perfect amount of light in. Blocks out cool/heat nicely. Great price. Loved the size options. Only problem is if you are not standing directly in front of shade and rolling it up, it has a tendency to track the direction with the greatest force.
