I have an 8x8 Chicago Metallic brownie pan that I've used for years and love it so much I decided to add the 9x13 brownie pan for when I need to bake a lot of brownies for parties and holidays. What a disappointment! I took several photos including one of my original pan so you can see how the pan is supposed to look. First of all, I've read reviews for the pan claiming the divider was worthless because it wasn't sturdy enough to "cut" the brownies. The divider is supposed to fit snuggly in the pan to transform the pan into a mold for the brownies to bake in. You spray the pan and every part of the divider, except the handles, with cooking spray. Getting the divider completely coated on every side of every blade can be a little messy so I usually do it on a piece of parchment paper or over the sink. Then you pour your brownie batter in the pan and insert the divider firmly into the pan. The divider is sturdy enough to cut through nuts and baking chips if you add them to you batter. Then you bake your brownies per your recipe but start checking for doneness about half way through because they usually cook faster this way. When done and cooled for 5-10 minutes you wiggle the divider to loosen and lift it out of the pan. If it sticks, I use a butter knife to gently release any edges that stick. That's how the pan is supposed to work. Unfortunately, the pan I received the divider doesn't fit properly in the pan. Not sure if you can tell in the photos but there's about a half inch gap between the bottom of the pan and the divider on one end. And the bottom insert doesn't sit flat either. I don't know if my husband can bend it back into shape or if I will just return it. Really disappointed in the quality though. ... show more

    • Use non-stick spray and metal brownie spatula
I have only used it once so far. It take two boxes of brownie mix. I used it with the divider and the brownies were stuck. I used a metal brownie spatula to separate each piece from the dividers. I got all the pieces out but two broke up. Do not use the bottom insert if you are mixing in the pan. Part of the egg white slide under the insert. The good part of the pan is that the remaining 16 pieces came out the same size. This is important when presenting to guests. Next time I will use it with non-stick spray and without the insert. My third effort will be as a cutter. The divider should be cleaned in the dishwasher. Make sure you have a metal brownie spatula when using the divider. It may take a few minutes to separate all the brownies before lifting the divider. I will post again after using the non-stick spray. I have now used this three times. The last two times with non-stick spray. The brownies came out great. The one thing you have to do is level the batter out. You want it even everywhere in the pan before placing the divider in. A high spot will require separating with the brownie spatula before pulling the divider out. ... show more

I was looking ya pan that works for baking bars. I purchased 3 different brownie pans and this one was the winner for me to keep. Sturdy and well built. First one was too small (each square was like ice cube!) the 3rd one the divider was slightly warped. So if you are looking for pan with dividers this one I recommend. Well built !
