Chicago's first and best Greatest Hits set. It was initially released just before Christmas back in 1975 and found its way under of millions of Christmas trees that year. The following Christmas as well, as this Number One LP spent a very healthy year-and-a-half in the Billboard album charts. Formally titled Chicago IX - Chicago's Greatest Hits, the album was compiled at just the right time and collects all the best hit singles the band generated from 1969 through 1975 (although a few were saved for 1981's Chicago's Greatest Hits, Volume II), the band's most fertile artistic and commercial era. This is the band many of us knew and loved from day one with 1969's Chicago Transit Authority debut. Everything changed with Terry Kath's untimely passing a couple of years later, sadly. I had an older cd of this same album and I was always puzzled by why it sounded somewhat "muffled"... well this newer one has been remastered and now sounds much more dynamic and clear and lively... a noticeable improvement in sound quality.
