I have never used a 1.5 inch flat iron and I love it. It straightens well without tugging and ripping my hair. I miss the curling power of my 1 inch straightener but I like the efficiency and smoothness of this one. CHI has been around forever for a reason. It is a solid, reliable option and gets the job done. I do wish the chord was a little longer. I have natural curly hair. I bought this to replace my 2nd herstyler straightener. I have VERY frizzy hair, which is fairly wavy and curly in spots. So, I straighten my hair both to leave straight, and to re-curl. So, I wanted a straightener that could curl as it straightens like my other one did to minimize the heat I put on it. Pic on the left is after 10 minutes of straightening/curling lightly. Pic on the right is my ridiculously frizzy hair combed out during air drying beforehand. This works great. It glides super smooth through my hair--much better than the her styler, has automatic shutoff--which is huge for me, and has a more rounded body so when I curl it doesn't crimp or leave marks in my hair. I was worried it would feel cheap, but it definitely doesn't. It isn't as "thick and sturdy" as the her styler, but is also not as heavy which is a plus. I like the long plates, dial, etc. I wish it went just a bit hotter, but after a couple of weeks using it, I'm getting used to going slightly slower and having the 410 temp which is probably better for my hair. It curls really nicely. I had to adjust my technique just a bit from my other straightener, but once I figured out how much to twist and how slow to pull, I'm really happy with it. I don't smell that "burn" smell that some people have mentioned. Maybe just a touch, but fairly minimal. Oh, and I really like how it feels in my hand. Its a good shape. Chord is perfect length--not too long, not too short. And, the heat resistent pad to set it on is a bonus, though it doesn't really lay flat. ... show more

CHI cannot be beat . I’ve used CHI and other brands of hair straighteners and CHI is by far the best. It straightens but also tames my frizzies. My daughter got so angry when I replaced her overworked and old CHI with an off brand. I caught heat for that and she warned me that this new one wouldn’t last like her CHI and she was right. My CHI OF 21 years recently stopped working and purchased this one due to its versatility and ease of use. Longevity is key and as mentioned, my last Chi product lasted 21 years. The heat level is adequate even for coarse hair. Definitely worth the value.
