I purchased 10of these sets for my special education students so that they could play an easy game with each other. It came the next day. The board is folded into quarters and fits easily into the box. It had been years since I played checkers and the easy instructions helped me to recall how lot play. At first my students were putting the pieces on the red spaces as well as moving them into the red spots. I explained that the “red” was red, hot lava from the volcano and that’s why the pieces could never go on them and they had to stay on the black or jump over the black pieces when they capture each other. After 2 supervised games, many of them were able to play each other on their own. My students range in ages from mid to late teens but have the cognition ability of elementary school age children. They interacted with each other and loved when they got to day “King me”. The pieces are plastic and lightweight. I would have liked them to be heavier but I really liked how everything fit into the box for easy storage. Because the checkers are so light, I anticipate losing some and bought extra from another site. It was very heartwarming to see 20 kids sitting down having fun and engaged in a board game.

I’m giving it to an eight-year-old boy who loves puzzles, activity books, and tic-tac-toe so I did not open the box, but it came really well packaged in a beautiful box so hopefully everything‘s inside that is supposed to be there. I’m sure he will be really excited to receive it and start playing!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this board game. It was pretty good for the price, as I know sometimes, checkers/chess boards can be flimsy. I would recommend this set as a gift for anyone (beginner or not) who wants to learn how to play or is interested in having one around handy to play it with friends! Fun for kids and resilient game pieces. Totally recommend!
