abunda_amazon_reviews It’s not a Green Egg! I knew that going into it but it was a good alternative till I can afford one. I cook on it every night and have learned like any grill it has its quirks. At first I thought it cooked way to hot then I figured out you have to adjust the temperature before it reaches beyond what you want it to be. Let it get close to what you want to cook at and then use the factory settings before it gets there a1/4. Plus 1/8 etc... And she will hold that temp the entire time you grill. don’t try to get it to 500 to sear and then be pissed when it won’t cool as fast as an Egg or Joe. I’ve cooked on a green egg and kamodoe joe for years when I had a roommate that had both. When I moved out I couldn’t bring myself to spend the money for just me at my own house. It doesn’t have the natural Smokey flavor as the porcelain models I had hoped for but I’ve started using wood chips to make up for it. All in all I’m very happy with it for the price point. Very well built. Those that claim the lid falls off or the grate broke within a few months of owning it probably over tourqued the screws with a drill or let the heat get way to hot on the grate. (it will get hot fast if you let it!) I read those reviews and used a hand held screw driver on the parts I didn’t want to fall off and have had no issues. I clean my grate before and after every use and it still looks brand new even after months of daily use. Great product for every level grillers and those who take pride in cooking everything over lump charcoal which is reusable if you choke it out after your done grilling your food.;;September 28, 2017;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;I knew that going into it but it was a good alternative till I can afford one;;Adam Bickford;;;This grill has had some mixed comments, so I wanted to weigh-in with hopefully an accurate and objective review. First, I love it. Grilling is in my DNA. My grandfather manufactured the first Hasty-Bake for Grant Hastings after WWII, so quality grilling is something I know about. Hasty-Bakes are a classic. This is my first venture into the Kamando arena, and I'm so glad I chose this one. I don't need the large size, so the Jr. is perfect for a couple stakes, some chicken, couple pieces of fish, rack of lamb, etc. (for probably 1-3 people) There are a lot of comments on putting the Akorn Jr. together. I'm the guy who will assemble something 180-degrees backwards every time. On this assembly, it took 30-minutes, and I didn't have to un-do anything! Instructions were clear and accurate. I don't doubt other's experiences with mis-aligned parts - some have photos - but this one went together perfectly with just a large-size phillips. The handle is the only tricky part because of the configuration of the part as you can see in the photos, but I noodled around and found the holes on both sides with a little extra work compared to the other parts. I can't say enough about the clarity and accuracy of the instructions. If you follow them, in about 30-minutes, you'll be lighting a fire. The comments about off-gassing are addressed in the instructions: 1-Hour at 400, and I found that to be accurate. Best to not be around the thing for that hour - you can really smell the chemicals burning off, but after an hour, it settles right down and after 90-minutes (up to 600), I was cooking chicken and steak with zero particle flavor whatsoever. The color fading comments - well, that's expected at 700-degrees! Yes, it fades to a slight burnt-orange hue (or maybe just less bright), but no big deal. It's a very pretty unit and fun to cook on. I saw a small Green Egg at a hardware store ($600), and noticed it is much heavier. I don't know if Char-Griller engineered the Akorn Jr. to efficiency, or if there is a reason or advantage to the extra thickness and weight. I'm not going to pay $350 more to find out! This seems to hold heat just fine. When you lift the lid, you're going to lose temperature, but that's on any grill. That's grilling technique. I'm very happy with the purchase and will have many great meals from this unit. I did notice the stone is out of stock (June 2017) at the company, don't know if that is a long-term thing or not. I ordered a 9" stone from Amazon, which will suffice fine for my needs. Also, the cover for the Jr. doesn't appear on the website, so either the garage or a good ol' trash bag will have to suffice. I'm in Colorado so we get more drizzle than downpours so I should be fine on protecting it. (Can't wait to fire this thing up during a good snowstorm! That will be FUN :);;June 3, 2017;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;I love it. Grilling is in my DNA;;Thomas;;;Bang for the buck, you could certainly do worse than the Char-Griller Kamado Jr. It's an easy way to see if you have the patience required to use a kamado style grill before splurging on something bigger. Unfortunately, mine looks like it was poorly manufactured. As you can see in the photos, the top is warped and doesn't line up with the bottom of the grill. This causes the grill to not seal properly, and doesn't get nearly as hot as it should. Because it doesn't seal, it also doesn't retain heat as long as it should. I reached out to Char-griller directly, but they were no help at all. I emailed them photos showing the manufacturing flaw and they suggested contacting Amazon. You get what you pay for, but I was disappointed that the company had such poor quality control and wouldn't stand by their products.;;July 28, 2017;;2.0 out of 5 stars;;you could certainly do worse than the Char-Griller Kamado Jr;;Jerry T;;;Wonderful grill. I am able to reach over 700 degrees with only about 12 coals. It's insane how quickly it can cook. I was able to cook a thin cut steak in three minutes, about a minute and a half on each side. It's awesome. The grill surface is a bit small at about 14 inches of usable diameter. But it's awesome for what it is. It's portable enough to carry around a deck with one person. One word of warning, buy a grill cover, the lower portion of the grill retains water even when closed while in the rain. Cover it to protect it.;;December 10, 2016;;5.0 out of 5 stars;;Wonderful grill. I am able to reach over 700 ...;;Virgil Allen Moore
