The double drawer allows for quick, easy access to tend water and wood without heat loss in the actual cooking chamber. The propane smoker uses a simple propane burner to heat wood chips and water for smoking. The burner itself has a temperature control while your cooking chamber is monitored by a separate temperature gauge. • Char-broil gas smoker
I like everything about it. This was a second time buy! The other one lasted for us 15 years outdoors..with a cover on it that long. It now is a neighbors who loves our smoke meat. Enough room to do a pork shoulder, chicken , rack of ribs. Salmon. That was our last load. I smoke them in large foil pans to cut the grease dropping and keep smoker clean. This smoker is excellent!! You'll love it! ... show more

  • If you want to try smoking without breaking the bank, this one fits the bill.
This smoker is a great deal! I purchased it as a scratch and dent from Amazon and it did arrive dented and a little beat up but that was expected. The door thermometer is a joke. It has a 1 inch stem and was broken in shipping and to Char-broils credit they shipped me another one. I decided to purchase a good one through Prime and got bbq factory 2" for 8 bucks. I had to enlarge the hole in the door to make the new stem fit. When I burned in the unit to season it I noticed that the door leaked smoke to a small degree so I bought gasket tape for a few bucks and sealed up the top and bottom doors, now they seal nice and tight with no leaks at all. Now the good. I did what most do and used a separate water pan above the combo pan and just put pre-soaked chips in the smoking pan and that worked just fine. I got this for long cooks to use instead of the Weber kettle, I didnt want to baby sit the weber when smoking a Boston butt. I fired it up at 5 am and within a 20 minutes it was smoking and the temp was at 225-230. According to Amazinribs.com the burner puts out 16,500 BTU's. I put the butt in and let it go. Smoking chips last about and hour give or take a few minutes so plan accordingly. At about noon the meat was at 160 degrees so I stopped adding chips and wrapped it in foil with some apple juice and added a little more rub. At 3pm it hit 190 so I shut the smoker down, wrapped the butt in a towel and stuck it in a dry cooler for an hour. I took it out and shredded it and it was moist and tender, the bone pulled right out. I had a half full tank of gas and it made it to the end without running out but was very close to empty. Considering Kingsford briquettes are 9-10 bucks a bag, the price for heat compared to the weber is about the same or maybe less for gas, and you dont have to keep adding coals all day long. And if you stick to the single water, chip pan, you dont have to open the top door very often at all. Like they say, "If your lookin', you ain't cookin'! So overall I was very pleased with the smoker, it has plenty of room, holds temp very well and was very inexpensive. Plus the food tastes great! ... show more

  • Avoid at all costs
Cheaply made. I have a file cabinet from Office Depot that is made better. Doors bent, dents, lightweight. The worst part is the tray. Since it holds both chips and water it's messy at best and useless at the least. I can't get the temp below 300 on the lowest setting which cooks too fast, burns the chips too quick, and boils the water out of the pan soaking your meat and creating puddles underneath. Save your money. This will make you want to abandon smoking altogether. ... show more

  • good smoker
I bought this smoker because I have already purchased a grill from Char-Broil and it has been an excellent BBQ. The first thing I smoked was baby back ribs. They turned out great. The only thing I encountered was I could not get smoker up to 225 degrees until the water all boiled out. Having all this water steaming out basically steam cooked my meat rather then smoking it. Not what I was after. Plus I could not get the temperature up to 225. Don't know if this was due to being a windy day or what, will have to experiment more. I do however, suggest you put the water in the pan then put your wood chips in. Only because the water spilled over in the chips section from filling the pan or closing the drawer. Had to take it out and start over 45 min into smoking. 1/12/2014 update So I have been wanting to update my review now that I have had it for a while. I want to start off buy saying the water and smoke chip try is a poor design. The fact you have water in a pan that gets hot enough to get wood chips to smoke is just plain stupid. All you get is a big wet mess inside your smoker that drips water all over the ground. All you end up with is steamed meat instead of smoked meat. All or any smoke you might get is captured by water vapor and just make a big mess. With that said here is how I fixed the problem. I figured out if I move the water out of the pan things would work as they are intended to. I found a stainless steel bowl that holds about 3/4 of a gallon of water and used one of the grill grates placed it on the very bottom of the smoker just above the smoker tray. I wrapped the bowl and the wood chip try in aluminum foil to catch the drippings and made it easier to clean when I need to. I can still open and close the smoker drawer to add more wood chips of I want to. By moving the water out the smoker tray and into a pan away from direct heat. I can now reach higher temperatures in the smoker if I need be. Over all this is still a good smoker just needed a little tweaking. The only other thing I am going to do is put some sheet metal around the bottom to eliminate the wind or weather from lowering the temperature of the smoker. I am still satisfied with the smoker and so is everyone who comes over for BBQ. It's plenty big enough for a 10lbs brisket and a couple racks of ribs all at the same time. ... show more

  • Great Smoker! Makes people think you are a Grill Master!
I used my a number of times over this past summer and it has turned out some GREAT tasting meat. So easy to use and to control the heat. I love the design and how I don't have to open the top door to add more water or chips so that the meat can keep cooking. The quality is very good....I would say it's great because the metal legs and sides could be a little thicker but I haven't had any problems with it. It can hold A LOT of meat.... I have done two whole pork loins at one time.....three whole chicken fryers at one time....a whole turkey at one time and I could have easily done two turkeys....maybe even three at one time. The temperature gauge on the front seems pretty accurate and the grill rack on top is nice added feature to keep your marinades warm. I love mine! ... show more

  • Needs a larger water holder
This would be a great smoker if the water container was a lot bigger. My husband did a pork butt in this smoker which took 12 hrs. and he had to add water once every hour. Otherwise it does a great job.
