  • Propane starts - not without a new part
Style: 2000-Watt + Dual Fuel Pattern Name: Generator
Update: Took about a month, but after a few emails back and forth with champion, I got a new propane hose still under warrant, followed the instructions about starting on propane halfway between the choke and gas setting, and it started right up! Been running like a champ! Really happy with it now, only complaint is just wish the first propane regulator would've worked. Now that it is going, I do appreciate the smaller generator size, the pull to start it isn't difficult. Original: After alot of research, I went with this generator, a Champion Dual Fuel 2000W portable generator. My main use case is to use as a backup generator for a fridge in the event of a power outage, which are common in my area. I was specifically looking for a propane generator, as it is easier to store propane for long periods of time, and doesn't require any special maintenance or storage care of the generator or propane when putting it away for any length of time. Within the last weeks, I've tried starting the generator using propane. Followed all the instructions, and even some reviewers comments that the dial needs to be set in between choke and gas to actually run on propane, but I have had zero luck getting it to start at all. Kind of suspect the problem is with the propane regulator, not the generator itself, like it's restricting flow too much. If this unit was a garage sale bargain, I'd probably start by getting a new propane regulator, but I bought it brand new so... currently in the process of trying to return this unit. Overall pretty disappointing, it seems well built and packaged, I like champion equipment, and has good reviews, maybe I just got unlucky ... show more

  • Excellent Generator! Fantastic Value!
Style: 2000-Watt + Dual Fuel Pattern Name: Generator
I am getting ready to do some Disbursed Camping/Primitive Camping, so I wanted a little 1000W generator, just "in case." I obsessively researched the smaller Inverter Generators prior to making this purchase. I strongly considered Predator, Honda, Westinghouse and Generac. And I looked at the rest. I had never even heard of Champion Generators. And I didn't know about the "dual fuel" (gas and propane) Inverter/Generators. WHAT A GREAT GENERATOR!! After I connected the LPG hose (provided) to my own 20gal propane tank (BBQ size), connecting the propane hose to the generator took EXACTLY ONE SECOND. Simply PRESS the hose into the quick-connect coupling on the generator (same as an air tool fitting) and YOU ARE CONNECTED! Takes ONE SECOND! No more nasty gas! STARTUP: After priming it with propane according to instructions, the Champion generator started on the 2nd pull. Yes! NOISE: Not loud at all, but it does GROWL a bit more loudly when under a load. WEIGHT: Excellent! I have 12-year-old 2000W Inverter/Generator that still works well. However, it is Longer, Taller and Wider than this Champion, and it weighs 62 pounds! That's over 50% more weight than this little 40lb Champion, and it makes a big difference. BREAK IN PERIOD: I did the mandatory 5-hour break-in period with the oil supplied by Champion. After the 5 hours, I drained the break-in oil and it was completely GRAY slimy liquid. LOAD TEST: I plugged a 13W LED shop light and a 1500W simple water boiler (glass kettle that just boils water rather quickly), and turned them both on. Therefore, total "start-up" (or "surge") watts is 1513 watts, max. IMPORTANT MISTAKE MADE BY AMAZON OR CHAMPION: Next to the photo of this generator on Amazon.com are the watts figures for propane as being 1800W Startup and 1440W Running. HOWEVER, further down the same Amazon page, in two separate places, it lists propane as 2000W and 1530W. This is also what the Operator's Manual lists: 2000W/1530W. Why does this matter? See rest of review... LOAD TEST, CONTINUED: Running the generator on propane I had 1513 watts connected with two appliances. The Champion generator easily handled the load including bringing the water to a boil (energy hog). However, after the water comes to a boil, the kettle will continue to boil the water for a few more seconds. During this "extra" period of boiling, the Circuit Breaker TRIPPED, thereby ending the Load Test. Based on this test, it appears that the LOWER figure given for the propane wattage output (1440W) is Accurate and the higher propane watt rating (1530) is Wrong. FUEL USE: I connected a fully topped-off 20-lb BBQ tank for the initial 5-hour break-in period. After the 5 hours of continuous use I expected the propane take to feel much lighter. That's not what happened. Instead, after 5 hours the tank was still very heavy as if NO propane had been used at all. I was pleasantly surprised. CONCLUSION: This Champion 2000W dual-fuel generator is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It is so good, that I feel like buying another one, even though I don't need one! This Champion generator is better in all metrics, including PRICE, than all the other generators I considered. SIDE NOTE: Now that I know how EASY, CLEAN, CONVENIENT and EXCELLENT using Propane is, I will NEVER add a drop of gasoline (yuck!) into this generator. Never! ... show more

  • Impressive generator - great price plus dual fuel
Style: 2000-Watt + Dual Fuel Pattern Name: Generator
At first I was looking at a Honda 1,000 watt but it was almost $1,200 and was gas only. This unit is 2,000 watt and under $500.00. What sold me was the dual fuel capability (gas or propane) and the higher 2k watt ability - Came packaged very nice/secure - Easy instructions - Started with gas on 1st pull w/choke. Propane started first pull after 4-5 priming pulls (see instructions) - Really quiet operation on eco-mode (no heavy load like device charging). Gets a little louder on heavy draw load but still not bad - Lightweight (about 35lbs no fuel, maybe 40lbs max with full fuel tank) - Powered my Keurig which is 1440 wats and takes a big electric draw when initially heating (who doesn't like a fast hot cup of coffee in the morning camping!!) - Came with the propane attachment and clip attach (very handy), oil, funnel. TIP: Use gas with no ethanol (such as premium grade fuel), and if you are going to store it for any long period with gas in, put a fuel stabilizer in such as seafoam or staybil and run the motor a while. Or better yet - drain the fuel (easy to do) and run the motor to clear out fuel still in the system before storage ... show more

  • Quite
Style: 2000-Watt + Dual Fuel Pattern Name: Generator
Great Price! Was exactly what I was looking for. I am a big fan of the duel power. Gas/Propane Also wanted a quite generator for our RV. Honestly it is much quiter then I expected. After following the priming instructions it started with no problem. I do wish the regulator had a longer hose assembly but the fact that it came with one is a plus. I did trail run to see if it struggled with the Air Conditioner witch is rated for 20 amps, Draw down on was only a second or two. With Ac and fridge and light on noise level never changed and can't wait to use it on or camping trip! ... show more
