Just purchased the HD 8 plus, and it has exceeded my expectations. Let me start by saying that to get the FULL BENEFIT of a Fire Tablet you must be a subscriber of the Amazon ecosystem. What I mean by that is you must be a Prime Member, a kindle monthly subscriber, purchase additional channels via Amazon Prime Video, a Echo owner, a Blink Security owner, … Again to get the FULL BENEFIT. Of course you can enjoy this tablet without those features, but with them you have a seamless platform. When I connected it "knew me", all my content was made immediately available, it was ready to use in a few minutes, Alexa working with the tablet, my blink security system viewing working, all working within minutes. As for the tablet it is light weight, very snappy, the audio decently loud enough, Amazon' silk browser is pretty smooth. You can get YouTube on this device as well as Apple TV. The movie quality is excellent. Comes with HBOMAX (I am a subscriber) heck even comes with MS Office. I was able to log in ang get my OneNote up and running. Battery life is great like 8-10 hours with decent usage. I am impressed with just how "tight" the operating system is. Like everything I need is at my finger tips, no waste. No constant scrolling or getting lost. It has exactly what I need, where as some tablets have lots of useless apps. I purchased a refurbished HD 8 Plus thinking that if it sucked then I didn't pay too much. I would have gladly paid full price. I own a iPad and it is a great tablet, but I am not part of the Apple ecosystem. To conclude, I think the Amazon Fire has come a long way, for the price you can't really beat it. If you are all things Amazon as I described above, it is a no brainer if you are in the market for a tablet or something bigger than a phone ( I am not as young as I use to be so looking at things on my phone strains my eyes) it is a great option. The price is right as well. If your a power user and need to connect to every thing, and need great video recording and booming sound and all that, then look else where. However, if you need a mid size content provider that will not break your budget, then this just might be the tablet for you.

I got this for an unbelievable price and with a few tweaks, I love it! It's plenty fast, decent screen, pairs to my bluetooth speaker well as well as my BT keyboard. I have all the apps I want/need like word, excel, powerpoint, google office suite, Disney, Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, my calendar, email, G drive, my bible nd so on. It's a great tablet and I'm writing this review on it right now. If you know how to tweak it a little, I'd rather have this than an Ipad. And I love using chrome browser and nest!

I have been a Kindle user since the first Kindles came out, and this Fire HD 8 Plus is just he best yet. It may be used, but it looks like new and the extra storage is just what I needed when I want to play a game. I ran my Fire 7s out of memory too easily. Also love the battery life. If just reading, it will last two or three days, perfect for traveling.

I've been trying to create my own Alexa "Show" for a while now, using old(er) Galaxy tablets and the such. Not overly clean or effective. This Fire tablet, though, has won me over. It's footprint (size), rechargeable wireless stand (must), apps (not everything I want, but everything I need), and Alexa built-in with auto-sensing of whether it's in tablet or Alexa mode is ... just about perfect for my countertop needs. :)

Google is going to quit supporting 2 of our Chromebooks in July, because they are approaching the Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date. I feel cheated. On the contrary, Amazon says: "Fire Tablets receive guaranteed software security updates until at least four years after the device is last available for purchase on our websites". That is longer support than we got for our Chromebooks. (That's because the AUE doesn't depend on the date of purchase. You can buy a brand new Chromebook that is past its AUE.) I knew that Fire Tablets are rugged. And I had good experiences buying used items from Amazon Warehouse deals. So I bought a refurb Fire 8 with 3 gb RAM. It looked new to me. I use it for simple internet uses like reading the news, Youtubes, and email. It has the same warranty as a new Fire. If I get 4 years of use from it before it breaks, I will figure it was a good purchase. Maybe I'll buy a 10 inch Fire then. If it breaks after a year, I will look for something else. Connecting to the internet was easy. There is no problem with the connection quality. I think that Amazon calls my Fire's color "slate". But to my eyes, it is black, and the little volume and on-off buttons are also black. So the buttons, being hard to see, are hard to get used to. It is an amazing technological device. You can watch a video full-screen. The picture can be set to automatically rotate when you rotate the device. I have failed to learn to use Alexa with this tablet. Maybe I am supposed to buy an accessory. I will update this review if anything unexpected happens. The Fire is designed for Amazon products, like downloading Kindle books, shopping on Amazon, and reading the Washington Post. I don't use it that way. And I am glad that Amazon doesn't prevent the user from watching competitors (for example, watching Youtubes and reading BBC news).
