Let me say first off that the actual product itself is a 5 star rating, the 2 stars is the fact that you are basically being lied to. $39 for a certified refurb seems like a great deal when in fact the only reason you're getting that is they are signing you up automatically to be an ads and special services test dummy. your lock screen will have ads on it every time you open it and when you go online to disable this service you will be notified that they are going to charge you $15 dollars to stop being poked and prodded by ads. The hardware is okay, but it is basically a pad for Amazon products & services. You have to register with an Amazon account, they ask for credit card info, home address etc in setup. You are seeing ads everywhere, and you can't delete Amazon apps, nor install simple things like a normal web browser (but why would you want to visit a website other than Amazon!??). So it's cheap because it's just a pad for ordering on Amazon, watching movies on Amazon, reading books on Amazon, you get the idea... this is not a standard pad where you have choice. This is my first Kindle Fire ever and I bought it as a random "Gift to me" I am in love, super happy, I have a concern that one of my nervous ticks may have accidentally bought a book but I will deal with that at customer service. The color and feel are super cute I love that I can comfortably hold it with two hands or one. I like the placing of the charger port because it does not interfer with my position of reading on my back while it's charging. I bought this for my 6 yr old grandson. The first thing I did was set up Amazon Free time for kids. This keeps him away from my apps and books and amazon account.
