The sides do come down when sitting at the edge, but which mattress doesn't and I didn't want to spend too much $$$$ on this. It only lasted for 3yrs, but I bought a topper to firm it up and lasted another 5yrs, which I had to since I spent so much money on it. I hope this one lasts longer and will purchase a topper to make it softer if that is what I like and I didn't go out and spent a lot of money. I put it a simple bed frame I bought from Home Depot for $89. I assembled quickly and it was ready in 1hr or less. My husband was happy, specially with the price. It is comfortable for me, better than sleeping on the floor or something too soft, where i can't even get out of bed because it dips too much or too soft. Perfect for us. Great quality for the value. Packages arrived timely and undamaged. I followed instructions and let it air out for about 72 hours. It is very firm and heavy. However, after having a memory foam mattress for three years, I knew I wanted something more firm in hope it would last a bit longer. I bought it with that in mind, that I would also buy a memory foam topper to go with it. Without the topper, I don’t think it would be very comfortable but I wanted the sturdiness and height for a solid foundation that wouldn’t sink over time, as well as memory foam for back and hip pain.. I think with it combined it’s the best of both worlds! It was easy, affordable, and exactly what I was looking for.
