I got mine as a lefthand one for only 94 bucks...at that price it was a bargain I think. I am a newbie so I didn't mind taking a chance on what is usually a 150 dollar plus violin. I expected poor sound...I have a good ear, but all the strings ring nice, loud, clear, and true...with open strings lol. Only downside was the rosin is shattered, but useable for now. It is in a small wooden box, in the accessory compartment of the hard case, which was packaged in the Cecilio box, which was in an amazon box. Makes me think it was shattered prior to shipping lol. Everything else looks like a steal for any price under 150. Very satisfied so far. Shoulder pad, two bows, and two bridges was nice and definitely adds to my newbie experience. As I said, the finish and the sound are BOTH better than I expected...so I'm very satisfied. Able to get long clear notes within a minute after setting it up. Make sure to rosin the bow several minutes straight that first time...and scratch the rosin with the edge of a quarter. I'll update if it falls apart or any other negative discoveries. ... show more

I've had this instrument for some time now, and I have to say I love it. I have been playing fiddle for about five years or so, and I would classify myself as an intermediate player. I have a very expensive fiddle my wife bought me, which was manufactured in West Germany, just to give you an idea of how old it is. This fiddle is not of equal quality to that one, but it can definitely hold its own. I don't understand the other reviews saying it is not a "real" instrument. Hogwash. This is a great instrument for the money, worth well more than what I paid for it. In regards to this other review warning of the dangers of playing left-handed, please ignore that. If you want to play classical or orchestral music, you could listen to that advice, since conformity is a requirement for those styles of music. If, however, you are interested in playing old time, Scottish or Irish, bluegrass, or other styles of folk music, fear not, you will be welcomed into the fold. I am nearly 38 years old, and I have been playing stringed instruments since I was 13. I gave a noble effort to learning to play right-handed. I eventually gave up on that and decided to play left-handed. I am glad I did. This pitiful argument that it is actually the left hand that does the more complex work early on, is also nonsense. If it were natural to play a stringed instrument with your dominant hand on the fingerboard or fretboard, then the majority of people would play left-handed, not the other way round. It has nothing to do with the complexity of what the fingers are doing, it is how the brain is wired -- that simple. ... show more

    • Worth Every Pennies!

Very nice little violin! Quite a lovely finished, purchased from Amazon whearhouse, at a significant discount. Had a broken peg on the G string and the rosin was pulverized in the little compartment. Scraped the rosin mess outside, changed the peg for a new one and at the same time switched all the string for "Fiddlerman's" set I always have on hand! This little violin a pretty decent tone, not deep as old wood but decent none the less. I have 4 other violin, all on the "politically" correct side. I wanted one on the left to keep practicing even if I start to strain from the usual side. I practiced Aikido for 4 years, this discipline forces you to do everything in an ambidextrous way. Both side equaly, and more often then not working on your weaker side forces unusual neural pathways to forme. Which in turn makes your dominant side better. It seems contradictory, but a well balance brain is something that my new left violin can help me with, while alleviating the aches from practice. As for the rosin, I use Jade L'Opera, Petz best rosin and Petz light, and Ulta Magic rosin the one with pictures in the back. So the broken rosin was of little consequence to me. ... show more

    • A good violin for a budget
This is a pretty good 3/4 student violin. It comes with everything you need to get started, including a second set of strings. I have seen several reviews online that make fun of or talk bad about student violins like this one, but there is nothing to poke fun at with this set. It isn't a 2,000$ high end student violin, but who wants to hand over a 2,000$ violin to a 7 year old. My daughter is learning everything she needs to know about playing a violin on this instrument, and where it lacks in performance a student lacks the skill to do it anyway. One of the bows is not quite as good as the other, but at least there are two so I don't have to worry about her breaking one and then having nothing to play. The tuner is inexpensive, but does it's job. If this were a 4/4 violin, I would steal the case from her. It is much better than the case on my violin. It holds the instrument in place nicely and is well padded which is perfect for little hands that might drop it on the way to a lesson. All in all, this is perfect for a new student on a budget. When my daughter learns all she can on this instrument, then we will look at something else. ... show more

Absolute garbage. Cheaply made and no matter how much rosin I applied to the cheap plastic strings, it did not produce any sound. Terrible purchase.

This is a cheap violin so you’ll get what you pay for. I used some soap to get the e string to stay put, otherwise it won’t tune right.
