I love puzzle feeders for cats! I was veterinary technician for 18 years and I highly recommended puzzles like these to every cat owner. I worked for a practice that was a member of the American association of feline practitioners and have really seen the difference in overall health a mentally healthy cat vs a bored depressed one. Just like people, their minds affect their health! I would say this one is an easy to medium difficulty so I think it's a good start for young adult cats new to puzzle feeders. Older inactive cats that never had a puzzle feeder may have some trouble. I would recommend a basic slow feeder to start for older cats. Toys like these help keep them from being bored and helps imitate natural feeding habits. Cats will hunt all day and eat several small meals, so just coming to a stationary bowl of food is boring and will make them eat more. With something like this, they will have to work for it, and eat a few kibbles at a time and they get satisfied with much less food It helps with boredom and inactivity leading to weight gain and I also feel cats who are not bored are more likely to interact and be affectionate and playful. I am writing this review on support of this product and others like it, but really it's hopefully a way to help owners understand their cats a little better. First puzzle - treat toy I bought for my cat to see if he could figure it out ok, if he liked it, and if he'd use it long term without turning up his nose at it. (You know how that goes.) Result: All systems are go! Initially I had to show him that yes, treats were in the puzzle, and here's how you can get at them... (Cat mommy showed him) He caught on the first day although he fumbled at it some. No problem - that keeps his brain active and growing. That was two months ago. My 1 year old cat loves this puzzle. It has 6 slots for you to put treats in and each slot is basically its own puzzle. It's also strong enough to take a couple falls. Keeps my kitten engaged for at least 30 minutes each time I set it up.

It’s too easy for my kitten but she still loves to use it so it’s become routine to put it out as I’m leaving for the day. Initially, she didn’t care too much for it and I thought she wouldn’t get it. Safe to say, her being treat motivated made her figure it out relatively quickly. I like that the area to insert treats is larger because I tried another one but the holes were so small that my kitten couldn’t get the treats out even when she could solve it. This is easy and keeps her busy the 2 minutes it takes me to leave. Ive had this for several months now and I still use it almost daily. Even though it’s easy, it’s now routine and we should all know that cats love routine lol. I haven’t had any issues with it in terms of functionality or breaking so I’d recommend it.     • great beginner puzzle

I use this with my cat as a bedtime ritual, to give her something to do that stimulates her brain and makes her eat something to trigger sleepy time for her as well. When we first got the puzzle I started on "easy mode", just putting treats under the sliders. After she figured those out, I put treats under the lids as well. Then we moved to "advanced mode" by also putting treats under those bone-shaped lids that block the sliders. I guess you can add an additional option by hiding treats in the bone-shaped compartments with the lids of the open boxes covering them- did that a couple of times, but it's really just a matter of moving the lids the other way. All in all, she had the whole thing figured out in a couple of days, but I think she still enjoys playing with it ever night. It takes her a couple of minutes to get all the treats out. The puzzle is pretty sturdy and well-made with no sharp edges or pieces that could come off easily, so I don't always sit with her when she does the puzzle and leave it out in her food area with no worries. It's definitely a good buy for the price, especially if you just want to test if puzzles might be fun for your cat - I recommend it! And there are always more complex options out there to advance with later on. ... show more
