  • great-- if you get one that works
pros: -it's a great toy that keeps kitty occupied for a while. she will frequently "ask" to play with it by pawing at it. sometimes she doesn't even try to chase after the wand/tail bit and enjoys just sitting there watching it move. -there's different speeds/modes, and it eventually shuts itself off after about a half hour of play so as to conserve battery life. -it's easy to put together and take apart for storage. cons: -unfortunately it's easy for kitty to pull the wand off the spinning platform, so I occasionally have to reattach it while she's playing. -buying this toy comes with an extra added expense: batteries. Some rechargeable batteries and a charger seems to be the ideal setup, otherwise it feels wasteful to keep buying and discarding them. -it's not the most durable, which explains amazon's caveat that this item is returned often. I broke one of these by tripping over it. I bought another one and it stopped working after a day of use. now I'm on my third one and it *seems* to be holding up, though kitty has bitten the "tail" part off the wand (it still works, but that's too bad). I guess it just depends on whether or not you get a good one, but it's worth it if you do. ... show more

  • Our cat loves it!
Seems much more durable than the other brand I previously purchased. Our cat killed the other one by catching and holding the wand, which must have burned the motor out. She does the same with this on, but it hasn't hurt it. She lets it go in a moment. She loves to stalk it, then pounce on it, and run out the room, to repeat. I highly recommend for those cats who prefer 'interactive' toys to turn on their "prey-drive"! :D ETA: I am so terribly sad to say that now....2 months later.....this toy has also died! The motor just isn't strong enough to last in these toys, and needs to be considerably stronger. I would gladly pay more for a longer-lasting version. This is an excellent toy that my cat loved so much, but it gradually got slower, and slower, and weaker, until it no longer interested her. Toy also needs to be able to take apart and remove hair and put back together. My entire apt. is carpeted, so there is no way to avoid cat hair from getting inside. PLEASE, PLEASE keep improving keep improving this very worthwhile toy! With a guaranteed longer-life I would gladly pay more for it! :D ... show more

  • Disappointed
This product claims to have three speeds. Mine only had one. It was too fast and too noisy for the cats to use. My cats are scared of it. This is why I hate buying cat toys. These companies pay people to shoot product videos and they dub fun music over the top of them to mask the noise these items make. If I would have seen the ACTUAL USED product and not an "overproduced" commercial, I would not have bought this. The noise scares cats. Do the people who make these items actually OWN cats? ... show more

  • Maybe not for the real hard players
I got a “like new” used one because that typically means bought and returned immediately, and it does seem perfectly OK, but I bought it because they’ve already broken one. I hate the sticks because my evil cat gets some kick out of hiding them. I have actually bought spare sticks at this point. I also have the Smarty Kat one and this is NOT way better. I read another review and don’t know where that comes from. For one, they’re almost identical and smarty kat is cheaper. The material is flimsy on the smarty kat, but the stick has kind of a fake mouse hanging from the string, so it gets wound up and it gets unwound and it probably depends on the cat which one they would prefer. I will say the stick falls out of both without any cat touching it . And the less flimsy material sometimes makes this one fall out. I really wish there was a solution where they could be pulled out if the cat really tries, but they don’t fall out easily because this is one of those things where you get it because you spoil your cat and then they love it so you may even buy another when they break it, but, maybe buy stock in batteries because if you’re the type to keep turning it on for your cat, they both go through a ridiculous number. I also have the one where the little string comes in and out, which they do love as much as these, but I think for some reason it cost even more and it has the same battery issue. Honestly, the batteries are possibly the most expensive part. Also, one person said their cat chewed the red part away in a day, which is a little crazy, but mine is attempting it & in over a month with me watching it has gotten farther than I’d like, but you might not want to ignore them ***** Since I taped the stick in on the smarty kat, I’ve decided not to try that on this one because not being able to pull it out meant my cat destroyed the toy trying to pull it out. (I hope if someone reads nothing else, they read my suggestion that trying to secure the stick might not work out) ... show more

  • When it works, it's awesome!
All three of my kitties liked this toy when it worked. I've had it less than a year and it won't respond to the new batteries. When I press the on button, it stays lit for a couple of seconds and then turns off. I think it has to do with the battery housing unit....doesn't seem to know that there are three brand new batteries in it. I've even cleaned the contact points and checked the charges on the new batteries. It's simple busted. Every time I pull out the toy, the cats get excited and then don't understand why I'm not turning it on for them. They've never played rough with the toy either. One just stares at it and watches the other two bat at it. But, they are not kittens and don't play rough with it, so we're not sure why it's failed so soon. I can only recommend this if a year is enough play time for your fur babies. I wish this one was an electrical charged one so that I wouldn't have to deal with the battery issue. ... show more

  • Best interactive cat toy ever!!!!
This requires C batteries, but they are long lasting AND it is much faster to replace batteries than to have to recharge a toy for hours.
