Ok look kittens are hard to entertain. When you keep ripping the toy away they get pissed off with it. The design is not very stable. And they hated it. It should be more engaging and When they catch it they should get a celebration pause to enjoy, "the kill." It was way to expensive for a toy that goes up and down and pissed my kids off.

The instructions that are included with this interactive cat toy are a bit tricky. "1. Loop that end of the rope through hangar". The illustration shows a rope passing inside a loop which is connected to an oval-shaped gray thing. I was thinking that I was supposed to be connecting one of the two included elastic ropes to the plastic spool on the body of the toy. I thought that the gray thing in the illustration was part of the plastic body of the toy. Now I would say that the gray oval is meant to represent a toy mouse, but then I didn't see a mouse, so I was confused. The instructions go on to explain how to attach the other end of the elastic rope through some holes in the spool attached to the body of the toy. The toy I received came with elastic rope already installed in the spool. That means that those instructions did not apply to my toy. Those instructions are meant for installing the rope when the spool is empty or the old rope gets too short or broken. I will be saving the instructions for when it's time to replace the rope. If the toy comes with the elastic rope already attached to the spool, like mine did, do not attach the mouse to the free end of the rope first! Instead, fully unwind the rope on the spool and pass the free end through the loop of elastic rope that is on the outside of the spool. Pass the free end of the rope through the loop again to make a knot, then move the knot to the outside wall of the spool so it doesn't get caught in the spool's groove when it's moving. Test where you would like the plush toy to hang or lie. I recommend letting it lie on the floor so that it looks like a real mouse. As the spool on the toy moves the elastic rope twists on itself, then it untwists, so it will be at varying levels when in operation. Once you have the plush toy attached to the elastic rope you will need to pull open and apart the two arms at the top of the toy to mount it to a door frame. For wider door frames you may need a second person to help. The instructions say it's suitable for door frames up to fourteen centimeters, or about five and one-half inches. I like that other lightweight cat toys could be used in place of the included plush mice, that's a nice bonus. It's a pretty toy and it came in a pretty box so it would be great for gifting. This interactive cat toy has been approved by the cats in our house, so I am giving it five stars.

Update: My younger cat is obsessed with this toy, even when it's off and just dangling. Before bed, I manually reel the string up to the top and tuck the mouse in and tell my cat the mouse went to bed. The first thing my cat does in the morning when I get up is spring down the stairs and fusses at me to play with this toy. Despite minor flaws, I have to come back and raise my review to 5 stars. I don't believe in rewriting history like some "Ministry of Truth" worker, so I've left my initial review intact below. My cats like this hanging cat toy. They love jumping after the mouse as the string it's tied to retracts and falls. It's very funny to watch. They've played with this toy more than anything else I've gotten for them in a while. My older cat is 10.5 years old and the younger one is 4.5 years old, so they don't play as much as they used to. I think this may help them lose weight if they don't become bored of it. It runs for 15 minutes, stops for 5 minutes, then runs for another 15 minutes before shutting off automatically. I intend to run this 1-2 times every other day until they grow tired of it, then I'll put it away for a week or two before bringing it back. While I like this toy and do want to recommend it, I have to a star away because this is one of those products with a USB cable for charging ,but no adapter, which isn't mentioned in the description. It also has laughably poorly written instructions, which are not clear and are incomplete. The instructions say if the toy gets too hot while it's being charged, then it's overcharged and you should stop charging it. Well, it should have a common safety feature to prevent overcharging. It also doesn't mention anything about how you know when it's charged. There's a red flashing light that stops flashing and stays solid red when it's done charging. This information should've been in the user manual. Also, the instructions for attaching the string to the wheel are not very clear, and the drawings for the most complicated part are the smallest drawings in the small instruction pamphlet, despite there being plenty of empty space to have increased the picture size. Had the toy not already come with the longer string attached, I'd have taken down another star. I likely won't bother with the smaller string, but if I do use it, I'll just pay attention to how the longer string is attached and probably take a couple of close-up pictures and just copy that rather than attempting to use the instructions. My final criticism is that it runs on an internal 500mah battery. I don't expect it to last more than a couple of years at most since I can't replace or easily remove the battery for proper disposal. Still, if none of my criticisms are too big of a deal to you, then I recommend this toy.

Mine arrived defective. It’s like the motor couldn’t handle the weight. It’s cheap and probably wouldn’t last long even if I traded it out. I could hear the motor. When I took the weight from the string off, the part that turns, turned. Otherwise it would not move.
