I rarely write reviews, but I was so pleased and impressed with this purchase that I felt compelled to leave this review. These watercolor pencils are excellent and a terrific value! First, vibrant color, well-marked color names and numbers on the pencils; very nice hinged tin with the color names and numbers on the inside of the tin lid, beautiful instruction booklets, a swatch template, and more. It was well packaged, and there was no damage upon arrival. Tonight, I'll dive in and give them a try. So pleased! Kudos to Castle!

The tin & pencils arrived undamaged & in great shape. I was a little concerned, because they arrived in a large paper bag with no packing materials. When tested, some pencils seem more water-soluble than others. A few were scratchy, leaving little pieces behind on the paper, but not very many. When activated with water, the colors blend nice. I use other colored pencil sets, but I keep coming back to these. I use different sets for different things, but I still like these best of all my sets. The pencils are not in numerical order, & the color swatch sheet is in no particular order either. So to save time trying to hunt down pencils, I took them all out of the trays, lined them up numerically, then put them back in the trays in numerical order. Now I can find things when I want them & put them back in their spot when I'm finished. Some complain that the pencils are hard to get out of the trays, but I just press down on the bottom end to flip a pencil up, then grab the top end with the other hand. It's easy. When I purchased it, I didn't realize this set also comes in a zippered case with a few paper accessories. I would have preferred a zip case to thin plastic trays, though the finger straps do help much to lift these out of the tin. My one suggestion for Castle Arts is to offer empty zip cases for sale separately. Castle Arts' cases are of a better quality than the other zip cases for sale out there & they have their pencils running in the right direction to preserve the integrity of the cores.

Our family has used Castle pencil sets for years. They’re the best. Tried their watercolor pencils and we are thrilled with the quality - same amazing quality as their standard pencil sets, same beautiful variety of rich colors, love the color saturation - buildable, easy to use, they glide across the paper. Just wish we could purchase extra sets of certain colors that run out faster than others. Highly recommend for all skill levels. Would like the 120 watercolor pencil set in the zip-around album, too. That’s so handy. Best value on the market.
