  • Great Casio Watch
In all this watch did not disappoint in any way. There are a few complexities with it but those are to be expected of a watch in this price range. I was looking for a watch to replace the G-Shock I lost a long time ago when I was 15. I had it for literally 6 years when it was ripped off my wrist while I was sailing. The strap was cut through and the watch dropped into the ocean. It is probably still sitting there telling the time as we speak... PROS -A great sturdy watch, rubber coated exterior bug rugged buttons thick straps metal clasp. -A great look, I could wear this with a polo and jeans or a nice suit if I really wanted to.It is a clean crisp rugged looking watch. -it is waterproof, shock resistant, and everything else you could possibly want. -IT IS SOLAR POWERED! Yes that is right solar powered. Say good bye to having a dead watch. That was the one thing I disliked about my original Casio so much; when it went dead it took me a week to get the battery replaced. No more! -The solar panels are well hidden, unless you are looking for them you will NOT find them. They are hidden into the design of the watch quite well. -I have had this thing for a few months now and can say with confidence it has never dipped below the HIGH charge mark. I don't even have to change the way I normally wear a watch either. It just seems to glean every bit of spare solar energy it can get and uses it all to charge the battery. -The manual is well written and flows easily from one function to another CONS -It is not bulletproof...but is likely bullet resistant knowing its construction. -The MANUAL...Dear sweet lord the manual is intense. It is the size of a small travelers bible that you can put easily in your pocket. And it is just about as thick as one if not thicker. This thing has more functionality than any other watch I have ever owned...while that isn't saying much if you plan on using ANY advanced functionality of this device you need to read the manual. -The display can be a bit challenging to read in the dark if you do not light the face up. Good news I found if you quickly twist your wrist like you want to read the time, when it is dark the face auto lights up for you. It does not however do this when it is bright enough to read the face during the day. it is almost like it has a light sensor in it and will only auto light up when there isn't enough light to read it alone. WRAP-UP As far as the line of Casio watches goes this one was a good pick for me. I have a big arm and well a HUGE wrist; this watch fit perfectly and looks great. It is rugged enough for me not to have to worry about taking it hiking, biking, or accidentally hitting it against something while walking or running. They just don't make watches like this anymore...or I thought they didn't. ... show more

  • Best watch I own!! UPDATE!!
I picked up this watch a few months ago. Ive had it in the ocean, swimming pools, and showers. Never had any problem with anything on it. No my screws have not fallen off and I basically wear this thing 24/7. I sometimes forget to take it off and even wear it to bed. I am some what of a watch collector, most of my watches were much more expensive then this one including a citizen eco skyhawk being over $500. This is my favorite watch BY FAR!! I love all of the functions. Very bright light for the glow part. Very easy to read. Mine updates every night as long as I have it near a window. It is very easy to setup and start enjoying the phases of the moon and the tide info. We go to the beach alot and its great to know when the tide is up or down when you arrive so you know how close to put your umbrella and chairs without being over run by the ocean. I am a freemason being a member of a moon lodge, so its nice to know when a full moon is coming up. This watch is very rugged, ready for everyday use. Weather you are going out on the town, hiking and camping, or hitting the waves. I would recommend this to anyone. I have a small wrist and this watch is not too big or overbearing at all. It is very comfortable and light. Last thing I love about this watch is the light setting...you can set it to light up when you turn your wrist to look at it at night. Just hold the "G" button for 3 seconds to turn on this function. UPDATE!! I have owned this watch for 9 months now. It has became pretty much the only watch I wear. I still wear my way more expensive Citizen Sky Hawk Eco Drive for dressy occasions. This G Shock i wear everyday, and i rarely take it off. I wear it to bed, in the shower, to work, to play. It has never lost batter power. There is no cosmetic damage to it what so ever! No scratches, and the band still looks brand new. I love this watch more then any watch that I have ever owned. My best friend has the exact same watch and he is in the Army. He had it overseas with him which you can imagine is a very very good test for any watch. His looks exactly like mine, PERFECT. So it has literately been to WAR AND BACK and this watch passed every test with flying colors!!! BUY THIS WATCH NOW YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM!!! ... show more

  • Great watch, durable and well worth the money
Exceptional timepiece. I've been wearing this style of watch for many years (my 3rd watch of this model), love the atomic timekeeping and solar power. I never have to worry the battery is dying and the time is off. I'm on of those punctual people, almost OCD-ish when it comes to being early for things. My first watch was the victim of stupidity, I took it off and set it on a stack of lumber one summer thinking it would be okay, until it got destroyed by a forklift setting a pallet of lumber on the stack. My 2nd watch lasted almost 5 years, even with the glass cracked, and the white around the watch face had been worn and faded to almost a light blue. The crack did it in as I had to plug my hand into water and that killed the watch. So hopefully this watch will last years like the previous one did, or even longer. Pros - Atomic timekeeping - never have to set your time again. Solar power - no battery to replace every few years Power save - watch blanks out the display at night or in dark areas for a time, saving the battery Moon and tide features. I like the moon phase for fishing, but the tide phase is worthless for me, I'm 14 hours from the coast. Cons - Watch is large (I like the size but some may not). from outer edge to outer edge is 2 inches across, the glass face is 1.25 inches in diameter, about the size of a 50c coin. ... show more

  • The capper of my GShock collection
Did I really need another GShock? No, but I really wanted one with solar power and atomic timekeeping, so, after much research, I selected this model. I already own the basic black Rescue model, and love it. I received the solar version yesterday, set it up, and it's a joy to set up, even easier with the tide/moon settings than the standard model. There's no offset/Longitude setting (at least, the manual doesn't mention any) on this one, just set the time, date, etc., then a.m. High Tide for your area, and moon phase and sky orientation, and you're done. I literally saw the watch power up in daytime summer sunlight in my car today at lunch, going from M to High Power Charge within an hour or under. Fantastic. World Time is easy to select and set on this particular model. Watch is super comfortable and lightweight, as are the standard GShock Rescue models, and easy to operate. Looks solid and attractive but extremely low-key and kind of "blackout" military style. The negative display is not as easy to read as the standard Rescue, but it's not too bad. The backlight is fine, especially at night, of course. The light and display on this one is are a lot better than the pitiful one on my GShock Blackout GA-100 round model, which is dimmer on purpose, being intended as a true military/LE watch. I almost got the basic square solar GShock (GWM5610-1), but this Rescue solar had all the features I wanted, and more, for the same price, and I already love the standard version, so the purchase button got hit. I just hope the metal plugs don't fall out, as some have complained about on here and elsewhere. So far, it seems as solid as any other GShock I've bought, and the other ones I've bought the past few years are all still in fantastic shape but I switch off frequently. I doubt I'll use or need the atomic time feature, but it's there if I want to synch up at night. I think, thus far, this is another solid Casio GShock and well worth the investment. ... show more

  • Great upgrade from Timex Ironman
I bought this watch to replace a Timex Ironman that died after a few years of service. I liked the Timex because of its low price, huge display, and very easy to use all of the watch functions. I've had the Casio GW7900B-1 watch for about a month now and I don't miss my old Timex one bit. There are several comments about the inverse display being hard to read, but I find it easy to read in any lighting conditions. I would say that you have to use the backlight a little more than you would on a traditional display (for example a little earlier at dusk), but that's just a new habit to get used to. With the backlight on you can read it fine under low light conditions. The backlight actually seems brighter than what I had on my Timex. Display of numbers is not as big as on the Timex (nothing out there really is), but this watch shows more information and the display is big enough that I don't have any problems reading it. It is very easy and intuitive to use all of the features on the watch. Maybe not quite as simple as the Timex, but pretty darn close, and you have more features like moon and tide info on this one to learn how to use. Read the user's manual one time and you'll understand how to use everything. Obviously the price of this watch is more than the Timex, but this watch is built like a tank and I think it will last forever. I also think it is more attractive than the Timex. I wear it to work (office job) and people have told me "nice looking watch." It is a large watch, but looks good and is comfortable to wear. The watch battery power indicator has been on full ever since I received it. I work in an office all day under fluorescent lights and am outside an hour or two in the evenings, plus outside more on weekends. That seems to be enough to keep it fully charged without doing anything special. Time sync with atomic clock signal has worked perfectly every night and even automatically adjusted for daylight savings time. I leave the watch sitting on my dresser when I go to bed and it syncs without any special effort required. I live in Colorado, so I am close to the source of the atomic clock signal in Ft. Collins. As others have mentioned, the screws on the front face are there just for looks. You can move them around with your fingers, but it doesn't seem like they are going to fall out or anything. Overall, this is a great watch and I am looking forward to having it for many years. ... show more

  • Great Negative Display Gshock! Great Negative Display Gshock!
I received this in the mail from Amazon last week. Great watch at a great price. Let me first say lm not a big fan of negative display watches. I have over 30 Gshocks and 4 Protreks. Now this one is the 2nd one l own. I also have the Gwx 6900 gshock. Which is a great watch to. This watch is Atomic Solar Powered. That means you never have to set the time, or change batteries. Set it once and that's it. This watch is really compfortable on yourWrist. I have 3 different models like this from the Rescue series. I have the g7900-1 which is a great watch but runs on a battery. I also have the gw7900-1 both have positive display. The Gw 7900-1 is Atomic Solar Powered to. This is the watch that a lot of Navy Seals wear. Also the watch is perfect for a every day watch. So if your looking for a watch with negative display that you can see. Buy this. The watch has a great back light for night time use. I have all kinds of Gshocks. I have the Rangeman gshock which is a great, great watch. I have the King GXW56-1BJF gshock. I have 4 Mudman gshocks 2 Gulfman gshocks. The gwm5610-1 and the gw6900-1vgshock and way to many more to mention. I have been wearing gshocks for almost 34 years, since the first one came out in 1983. So l have a lot of experience when it comes to Gshocks. This is a great watch for any wrist size. I have a 7 inch wrist and it fits perfect. So if you want a watch with negative display than look no further. You can buy a better watch for the price under $100.00. Buy it now before the price goes up. Make sure you buy it at Amazon. I bought 12 gshocks from them in the last year. Amazon always has what your looking for. I'm a Prime Member. 2 day delivery guarantee. Enjoy the watch or any other gshock watch you buy. Just remember if you like gshocks. Once you buy one you will probably want to buy more gshocks. Because they have so many different types. To meet all your activities. From swimming, snorkeling, diving, hiking, bike riding. They have gshocks for casual or for formal wear. Gshocks are the best watch money can buy in my opinion. • The G-Shock Watch Worth Waiting For.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this watch. I've wanted a G-Shock forever but the more inexpensive ones seemed to lacked the features I wanted and the more expensive ones were just out of the price range I'd pay for a plastic/digital watch. This on was right on the money. For a hair under a hundred dollars I was able to nab this one. First of all, it's solar so the sucker charges itself. I should never have to take off the back and compromise the water resistance of the watch--which is a big issue apparently. Next this thing syncs with the atomic clock in Ft. Collins colorado every single day so the time is always as accurate as it's ever going to get on this planet. The moon phases and tides are also cool if you're a dive head like me. This thing is water resistant to 20 bars (approx 660 feet) which should be more than enough for anybody other than a deep water welder. Some of the problems that other have had like the screws falling out or the battery running low I haven't experienced. In fact, I have never seen the battery read out at lower than the top level. The band is extremely comfortable for resin/plastic and the watch sits nicely on the wrist. I love it and I'm not usually a wearer of digital watches. It was well-packaged in a tin and came with a manual that explains absolutely everything to you. It also has the usual digital stuff, like alarm with snooze function and a timer etc. The one thing that most people complain about is the darkness of the digital face. The best way that I can describe it is that it reminds me of reading a magic 8 ball. Unless the light is pretty right it could be hard to read. That said, it looks so freaking cool though. Nobody else has a watch with the deep cool appearance of this one. The backlight button illuminates the time sufficient for darkened viewing but not brightly enough to give away your position. This thing, plainly put, is absolutely great and I would buy this watch again. It has exceeded all my wants and expectations ... show more

  • now you might say thats a small thing but right now its annoying to have to bring my wrist parallel to the ...
First let me say im starting with 3 stars as this watch just arrived on time and as advertised, the issues I have may become non issues as I get to know the watch at which point I think 4 stars will be warranted. The biggest issue Im having is being able to read the grey on black numbers and other info on the face of the watch. At most arm resting angles glare from the room wash out the numbers causing me to make a concerted effort to turn my wrist to bring the watch face more square to my eyes, this makes it difficult to "just give a glance" instead I have to turn my wrist, now you might say thats a small thing but right now its annoying to have to bring my wrist parallel to the ground to just to discern any information. The other issue is the ridiculous owners manual...as stated by others it makes a fiasco of trying to accomplish learning something with out flipping front to back to middle and back again. The watch is large but not outlandishly so in relation to the style of other large watches you see today. The band seems comfortable, however my wrist started to sweat as soon as I put it on. Im not sure if I completely understand the manual in regards to the tide chart, I get the feeling that you need to know the offset of where you are in relation to your home city setting on the watch, at which point you need to set that into the watch. The beach where I fish is 200 miles from my home city so the tide differential might be substantial. As I said Im starting with 3 stars hoping to go to 4 after I get to know the watch. Im going scuba diving next week so it should be a good durability test for it. I will update after a month or so. EDIT 10/15/2015 : Im sticking with 3 stars as the watch is just ok. First: the band is pretty comfortable so that's not an issue. Second: It took a solid 2-3 weeks b4 my eyes adjusted to the display, Until they adjusted they wanted to read the black background area as the time display and the grey time display as the background. A way to think of this is with that optical illusion that is a picture a vase that is also a picture of 2 people facing each other. That was the effect on my eyes causing the watch to look like gibberish until my brain flipped the background to black and the numbers to grey. Very annoying, and still hard to read at any angle other than straight on Third: The illumination is just ok. In complete darkness it is adequate but in low light it doesn't really do the job. Fourth: The manual is functional after you practice with it I suppose Didn't get to really test the tide thing yet so there is still always the possibility for improvement In Summary: This is an ok watch that didn't break at 100" under water, not having to need a battery is great eventually I suppose, the display kinda sucks but it is a functional watch. Is it worth the $100 bucks? Probably more like $75 IMHO but its still working and no ornamental screws have fallen out yet sooo... ... show more
