I feel that I have now owned and used this wonderful timepiece long enough to write an accurate review. It was delivered to me on October 29th 2015, and I have literally worn it 24/7 every single day since then. I'm wearing it as I write this review. The only time I take it off is either washing my hands/wrists or in the shower to wash my wrist and clean the watch off. Otherwise it may as well be a part of my arm at this point. I should elaborate that I work in a lube shop, so my arms get quite dirty. It is simply the best, most functional watch I have ever owned. I'm no rich man by any means, but I am into watches. I've got a couple Citizens and a handful of smart watches, but the G7900 is the one that I choose to keep on my wrist. It has everything a person could need from a watch on a day to day basis and not much that you don't. I use the alarm as my daily alarm in the morning (not all that loud, this could be a good or bad thing depending on how heavy a sleeper you are, but the alarm remains a useful feature regardless), the timer when I take my lunch every day (convenience of being lazy and not having to look at what exact time I went on lunch), and the stopwatch for various uses throughout the day. The moon phase indicator is an awesome extra feature to me, not nearly as useful as the others, but very cool nonetheless. The tide graph on the other hand, while a pretty cool feature, is quite complicated to setup and not particularly worth the effort for me. Although if you frequent a particular beach or waterfront area (fishing, swimming, etc.), it may very well prove useful for you. My final and my personal favorite feature that I'll touch on is that which Casio and more specifically the G-Shock brand is known for, the near unbreakable ruggedness. This watch has been beaten to hell since I've owned it, and it hardly loses a second. I've showered with it every day for 4 months as well. If it's not unbreakable and waterproof then it's damn close. And in the close to 4 months I've had it it's off by maybe 10 seconds.     • Great G-shock!
I have been wearing (and beating up) this watch for nearly a year. I love the other G-shocks that I have owned over the years; this one is as good as any of them. It hardly looks worn at all, even though I seldom ever remove it . . . swimming (ocean, too), showering, working, it stays on my wrist 24/7. The buttons are easier to press than my older, original G-shocks from the '80s. The high/low tide function is very useful while on vacation in Del Mar, CA to know how much beach we will have to set-up on at any given point during the day. I really do not know how to use the moon-phase function, but I find myself checking for a full moon when somebody does something stupid. The watch display is easy to read, even for my old eyes. The back light is bright and stays on long enough and makes the display very readable at night. I often use the light function to help me navigate to the bathroom in the middle of the night without waking my wife. The alarms are noticeable but not obnoxious. The band is very comfortable and really well made. The band has little 'flaps' that kind of raise the back of the watch and lift it from your wrist. This helps minimize sweating under the watch during workouts or on hot days. The watch is big, but I really do not even know I have it on. Very comfortable. This thing looks like it will last forever. But if it did ever fail, I would not hesitate to buy another one, same model, if I could find one. ... show more

    • A proper G-Shock for when you need one
I wear this as my "harsh condition" or workout watch. It's light, versatile, not overly big, very comfortable, looks cool, is very useful, and it's built like a tank. I've worn this in deep water, working on cars, working out, hiking, jogging, and various other activities. Like a proper G-Shock, it's very robust and dependable. My only minor complaint is the numbers seem to be blacker at a slight angle than head-on, but otherwise it's an excellent watch. For the functions and capabilities it's very light, and for all that lightness, it's extremely tough. The glow function works very well and makes the watch easily readable no matter the lighting conditions. The moon phase function is a nice bonus, and having all the time zones on my wrist is great. All the functions are very easy to master and the legibility is very good. The alarm is very loud for how small the speaker has to be, and it's very effective at waking me up. Overall, it's a very tough, very good looking sports watch that I can highly recommend. ... show more

This is my third G-Shock watch in the last 25 years. My first lasted over 15 years; my second (DW-6900), sadly, was lost on a recent trip to Canada. I almost got an exact replacement, but it occurred to me that this was an opportunity to upgrade to a G-Shock with more features, so I started looking at the new line. I considered the upgraded version of my old watch, dubbed the GW-6900, but it was a 4-6 week wait time thru Amazon, and I didn't want to be without a G-Shock on my wrist for that long :) I settled on the G-7900 as it had an interesting display layout -- not quite as symmetrical as the DW/GW-6900, but very readable -- important since I am now in my mid-40's, and I can't always locate my reading glasses! No atomic timekeeping or solar recharging, as on the GW-6900, but I realized that at this point, I don't really need those features. The G-7900 has a nice, beefy feel to it, and though I was a little dubious about the rubber "wings" attached to the strap, they actually make the watch more comfortable to wear by keeping it from moving around on my wrist. I also much prefer the G-7900's chunky rubberized buttons over the smaller round metallic buttons on my old watch. Another great feature of this watch is the ability to move forward and backward while setting time, alarms, etc. - my old watch would only allow forward movement through the settings, so if you missed the mark, you'd have to go all the way around to it again - seemingly a minor thing, but I did find it rather aggravating. The G-7900's moon phase feature is cool, but since I live in northern Texas, I doubt the tide feature will get used much :) About the only thing I can think of that could be considered a minus would be the backlighting; it's not as bright as the backlighting on my old watch. I will say, though, that the watch is readable in all but the lowest light, and in very dim settings, the backlight is quite adequate to illuminate the display. Maybe Casio implemented this dimmer lighting to save battery life? Overall, I have to say that I LOVE my new watch. If you're a G-Shock fan, I would suggest that you take a look at the G-7900; if you're not currently a G-Shock fan, check one out -- you, too, might find something new to love. ... show more

    • Great watch for the outdoor enthusiast!
Great watch, does exactly what I need. Easy to read display and large, easy to find buttons. Most watches with any kind of band other than metal, (especially rubber ones) tend to make me sweat under them a lot and are uncomfortable. That is not the case with this watch! The plastic "ramps" under the case provide breathing room and allow me to wear this comfortably all day. The watch seems very sturdy and well built. Like most mid to high end digital watches, this watch has more features than I will probably ever use, but it does everything I need it to do. I thought that having 2 stop watches was a bit overkill, but I find myself using them both in order to clock smaller segments and then overall time. I live in the desert, so the tide information is not something I will ever use. I like the fact that the light button is the easiest to find. A lot of our missions are at night and so the light is an important feature. It could be a bit more bright and crisp, but it really does the job! Would definitely buy again. The only thing keeping it from being 5 stars for my purposes is the fact that it is not easy to change to aftermarket bands. The band it comes with is good, but if it does ever break I will have to either buy one with an adapter kit or purchase a Casio replacement. Still a strong 4-4.5 star watch! ... show more

    • Took me three tries, but finally a new Casio that works for me.
After umpteen years, I lost my old Casio watch and ordered a new one. Uhmmmm, Casio couldn't leave things alone and juggled features on its watches - and pricing. The first two replacement Casio watches went back because they were lacking features I wanted, like a time that went more than 60 minutes and buttons that I could actually push. (I wish Amazon and Casio would provide more detailed information on features on the respective websites. A feature comparison chart would be a great help.) This one provides two long-duration stopwatches (which I will make frequent use of), a countdown timer (another must-have for me) and five alarms (which I will rarely use). It has an interesting and minimally useful graphic stopwatch indicator and a tidal chart which is useless in the Midwest. (Lake Michigan, the nearest large body of water to me, has a tidal movement of about one inch.) It does not have an atomic clock synchronization feature, which I would like, but is reserved for the next pricing level which is more than I want to spend. The G-Shock watches look huge in the photos and they are bigger than the typical watch. However, despite being large, they are not at all heavy. The band has a pair of "wings" which stabilize the watch on your wrist, a very nice feature. The face is reasonably uncluttered and the time and date are large and can be easily seen. The light switch is large and on the front, which makes it much more readily accessible than on most of the watches I've owned. Finally, the buttons for mode adjustment and stopwatches and timers are wonderfully large, which makes using the watch a joy. Timekeeping accuracy for the week I've had it is excellent. I have owned many G Shock watches since the 1980's with digital types being in the majority. This particular model has a great module and is well known among G Shock aficionados . There are a number of features both utilitarian and of interest in this model--the two stopwatch features and the Moon phases are of particular interest for me It is well built--like most G's--and comfortable to wear.     • The perfect G-Shock for my needs.
This is an awesome watch. I have a 7.25 inch wrist and this watch fits perfectly. I tried the DW9052-1v and it was way too small. Some of the ani/digi G-shocks are way too big for me, but this one is dead on. I needed a watch that had multiple alarms including a snooze alarm, stop watch (this has two) and a count down timer. You can set the alarm/timer functions to either beep, vibrate or both. This watch has all that I needed and more. The tide and moon functions are cool but not needed by me. I have, however, set the moon phases just because I'm a nerd like that. The buttons are easy to push but they are recessed into the watch case so they can't accidentally be pushed. One aspect that I really like are the gray tabs under the case. These are awesome because they hold the watch secure so it doesn't slide around. The dial is big enough that you can take a quick glance and get the info that you need. I also like that that the day of the week is in the three letter format instead of just two like other G-Shocks. The dial illumination is great, you can change how long you want the illumination to on. One thing that is not mentioned in this description is that you can set the watch to automatically illuminate simply be turning your watch to look at it.
