  • Very Nice and Simple Watch with Heart Rate Monitor
Style: DW-H5600-1CR Color: Black
Quality build. Screen is small, but very high resolution. Some of the stock photos above don't do it justice. Just got my pre-ordered item tonight and tried out the features. Was just looking for a basic workout watch that had HRM and O2 sensor. Always have my phone with me, so GPS isn't really needed in the watch anymore. I used the newer, general "CASIO WATCH" app on Android as they appear to be phasing out the older CASIO MOVE app, etc. It worked well for registering, setting up, and updating the firmware on the watch. I saw complaints about the app in the app store, but so far so good here. One thing to note, the default view shown in the stock photos, where the time is in the middle and the HR is in the top right is not the default face. It is face #2 in the app, and I really like that, so switched to it right away. If I'm wearing this watch, I want to know what my HRM is. I plan to wear it at night for sleep monitoring, and while working out during the day. Not sure if I'll use all of the other "fitness" features, but as a watch and a heart rate monitor, it appears to be doing very well. The HRM seems more accurate than the chest strap I wore previously. If you don't want to pay a monthly fee for competing wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and just want a simple way to monitor your fitness without subscriptions, CASIO seems to have nailed it here. I'll report back after I've spent more time with the watch in the event that anything changes. Mine came fully charged, although this is a new release, so was probably just manufactured not to long ago. It appears that with the current version of the Android app, there is no integration with Google Fit, Strava, or other apps. Nor is there any ability to export walks or runs as .gpx files for use in other applications. Further, the HRM can only be seen by the watch, and the Casio app, so you won't be able to use this watch as an HRM with other apps unless that changes. ... show more

  • Great choice for those that want a simple fitness watch.
Style: DW-H5600-1CR Color: Black
This watch is not for those looking for a smart watch replacement. This is a simple, durable, and basic watch. I didn't want another device to distract me while on runs or working out. I also think that Apple watches are too feminine. This is for a watch person that wants a tough but stylish tracker and heart monitor. I don't wear it everyday so the battery tends to last 3 to 4 weeks. It also managed to add battery life while on a long hike. The buttons are a little difficult to use and the app is very basic, but I'm okay with it. If you need more information and app quality is important, I would suggest getting a traditional smart watch. ... show more

  • A good watch, not a good smart watch.
Style: DW-H5600-1CR Color: Black
I think the biggest question to ask yourself when buying this, why do you need it? I believe as just a watch to tell the date / time this is phenomenal with the MIP display. I have a hard time reading Casios Negative displays and I haven’t been able to find a positive Casio Square that I like.. this solves the legibility issue 100% with a beautiful display. When you get into the functions as a “smart watch fitness tracker” I think this is absolutely useless in that regard, I’m sure the hardware for it is there, but the software still has a long way to go. I’ve noticed big discrepancies in step count and heart rate data compared to my whoop and Apple products. The notifications for your emails and other apps seem to hang around on the screen too long and I found myself hitting the “back” button way too often throughout the day. Yes the watch is much bulkier than the standard squares, yes the software is still awful, but I’d still highly recommend this watch if you can accept it for just that, a watch. ... show more

  • Great G-Shock
Style: DW-H5600-1CR Color: Black
UPDATE: February 2025: Alas, retracting my recommendation - this thing has turned into a major disappointment. Told me it needed an update. Tried but could not connect to it. Restarted my iPhone 15 Pro Max several times. Turned bluetooth on and off several times. Simply will not connect. Can't update. Hopeless. Battery life has deteriorated. Solar capability is completely ineffective. My advice; Don't buy this thing. Save up and get a Garmin smartwatch. I'll likely go buy one of those next when I've gotten over the monetary burn of the H5600. Anyways, your mileage with this thing might vary but I am $300 poorer and won't be patronizing Casio any longer. Onward. PREVIOUS THOUGHTS Upon purchase. Full disclosure, I'm a G-Shock cult member. This is about my 4th G-Shock. I still have all the others. This one has a solar 'top-up' capability and the heart rate bpm monitor. 2 big selling points for me. It is not as big as one of my previous 'square-faced' G-Shocks but its still good and chunky. It does not hurt my wrist as all. Yes it does have a dirty big thingy stickin' out the back of it but so far I haven't experienced any discomfort. Maybe those that do should wear it a tiny bit looser on their wrists? Easy for me to say though, I have quite hairy forearms so perhaps that's why I can wear it loose and yet it stays in place. I'm docking it one star because of the BS about its battery life and because the solar top up capability seems weak to negligible. That is disappointing. Also, I'd like a dual time feature to be added. Nice to know what time it is in another country without having to futz with the phone app. I keep the heart rate monitor on 24x7 so this means I get about 6 days on a full charge. When are these companies gonna add more battery to their wrist straps? That WAS a thing some years ago -dunno what happened to it. Casio - please lead on that! Better yet, adjust the phone app with an additional option so I can specify I only want the heart rate monitor to be operable from say 7am thru 11pm. No use to me when I'm asleep and that would conserve a lot of battery. Otherwise I love it. Sure it's pricey but... I still recommend it. ... show more
