  • Perfect simplicity Perfect simplicity
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
I have owned several “field watch” style analog watches, most recently a metal Timex Expedition, which is a handsome military style watch. While well built, the Timex is heavy. I tried this Casio model because the weight, about half of the Timex’s, was one of the lowest weights of any analog watch available on Amazon, with the exception of perhaps a Swatch or the tiny Swatch-like Casio which the Pope wears (Google that if you don’t believe me). The all plastic design is what leads to this low weight. After wearing it for three days, I can say this watch is great & exactly what I expected. Well under 40mm across, so it’s not large on my average sized wrist. Astoundingly bright light (with a really cool multi-second fade, which I’ve never seen on a watch). And again, so lightweight you’re not even aware of its presence. Some people have asked if the hands are luminous; they are not. The most puzzling thing about this watch was the strap that came with it. Very funny looking and bulky for everyday wear. The “leather” parts of the band were clearly shiny vinyl, which gave the band a cheap look. But I will say that the supplied band would probably work well for people who use the watch for camping, hiking, canoeing, etc. The band’s Velcro was very secure and easily adjustable to any lengthy and it would be quite easy to quickly put the watch over a jacket while cold weather fly fishing or something like that. Also the supplied strap seems like it would dry fast. But because I planned to wear it was an everyday non-outdoorsy watch, I wanted to switch to a NATO strap, of which I have several. Here’s where I’d caution anyone planning to switch straps as I did. Most “lug widths” on watches are *even* millimeter widths, with 18, 20 & 22 being the most common, and 20mm being the most common of all for Timexes, Seikos, Citizens, etc. This watch is a 19mm lug width. Quite unusual. Straps, NATO and otherwise, with odd widths are difficult to find, but I happened to have one (the one featured in the photo). Is this lug width issue a huge deal? No. If you wanted to switch the watch to a NATO strap, and couldn’t find a 19mm, an 18 or 20 would work (with the former showing a bit of the metal pins and the latter being a snug fit). But aside from the weird band issue — which worked out well for me — this is a perfect watch for a perfect price. Like many Casios, you’re talking about approximately $20 for a watch which will likely last years. ** One final note: I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this, but one YouTube review of this watch said it has two batteries— one for the quartz movement and another for the light. If this is true, this might be a reason to just get a brand new watch when the batteries die, since replacement of two batteries could equal the cost of the watch, especially if a jeweler were to charge you $20ish for installation of the two. ... show more

  • Update two weeks later/ Cheap feeling but looking nice
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
I've used this watch on and off with my other, the band is uncomfortable and needs to be set really loose or else cuts off blood flow, the month can't seem to be set to the right day, no matter what I do it's always wrong a few days later, the time isn't right half the time I'm resetting it, just off a few minutes always, can't see the day of the month anyway without holding it right in front of your face or using glasses that magnify or a flashlight, so that doesn't matter much kind of a useless feature and since it goes to 31 days it's going to be wrong on any non 31 day month, the time being off is only about three minutes at worst so no so crucial that it ruins it's feature as a watch and the band so it's loose it just moves around a little instead of being rock tight on your wrist and being loose fixes the uncomfortable band problem. Still looks pretty nice so I wear it instead of my fancier double the price digital which is all black and is like cars now adays looks like every other digital in it's price range, black and boxy, where this has outdoor hiking look to it. For price range still satisfied, but these updates may be deal breakers for some, who care about date, or exact time constantly being right. I just got this right off the truck. I opened it with anticipation. First impression once the box was open was cool. Then after pulling off it's display case I felt and saw it's kind of cheap and the leather is more of a hard plastic and I totally had to open it up and pull flap out to get it on my wrist. Pull the button one and go counter clockwise to set the date, fairly quick to do, since it says 31 days on it don't know how it knows to keep right date on 28 day month, etc. Will see. The watch grew on my quickly once I had it on and stopped being such a finick and it really looks nice. Numbers are big and ez to read all but the date good luck reading that when you need it. I've had to loosen up the band to it's loosest setting to get blood flow back to my hand was hurting my writ having it too tight, weird. Some complain about the velcro being all the way up and down the bottom side, doen't look bad, or not to noticable, the face catches the eye mostly, I just hope like they say the velcro doesn't wear out and make it so it doesn't stick. The light is useless in the day time as I just checked, but who needs it then and seems to show mildy here at my comp, nice ez button on right side of the watch for light, very simple watch with ez to read hands and numbers, this is my second watch and I'm sure to have a lot more in time, I love watches and jewelery. For seventeen bucks and free shipping and this being a very cheap name brand watch you can't go wrong, any teen would love this as a gift. I think so far money well spent and now I can put my fancy all black, with multiple time zones, compass, and thermostate away for a while and trend more of a outdoorsy mantage. Second hand won't move when dial is pulled in first or second click don't worry starts right back up when pushed back flat. Remember it's all plastic and cloth, the face is plastic not crystal, so probably will crack with a good thump, the leather and outside watch is very cheap plastick and brow, but sixteen bucks for a cool casio get over the what it's not part and know you've got a from a distance quality time piece. Maybe one day I'll own a Movado but for know these fifteen to forty dollar watches will make due and can be lost or broken without tears. Only complaint is it's not leather and cloth and no glass face if I had to complain, but ob la dee. ... show more

  • Adequate for the price
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
For casual and infrequent swimming/watersport use, this Casio Forrester watch performs as needed. I wore it in the ocean and pool several times on a recent vacation and had no problems, and I wear it on weekend hikes (when I remember to). I'm someone who prefers simpler gadgets with easy interfaces and fewer features, so I chose this one for its simplicity and straightforward, classic look. Although the watch face is a bit smaller than I expected, it's not "busy" looking and therefore is easy to read. I bought it 6 or 7 months ago and haven't had to adjust the time other than when moving into other time zones or doing seasonal clock changes. My only complaints are the Velcro being slightly irritating or itchy when the weather is humid or when I'm sweating on a trail, and the pin to adjust the time being tiny and hard to pull away from the watch body. Tweezers were needed. Obviously, you wouldn't buy this watch for scuba diving or anything that requires rugged performance. ... show more

  • Solid value
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
I wore an analog watch many years ago and decided to get one recently because I'm kind of tired of the endless stream of slop served up on screens. This Casio tells time the old fashioned analog way, without any bells and whistles - you get time, date, and that's it in terms of information. The Arabic numerals are big enough to read easily at a glance. In low light, you can use the light button to activate an LED, which provides enough light to read the time. The strap is nylon and leather, which I find decently comfortable. The Velcro on the strap makes for a precise fit. It keeps pretty good time, as well - it's rated for +/- 20 seconds per month, but mine is off by just 4-5 seconds within the first 3 weeks of owning it, which I would guess would only put it off by 6 seconds and change for a month - not bad at all, really. Oh, and one other thing: I can't hear this thing ticking unless I stick it directly up to my ear. It's nice and quiet, which is important if you're someone who can't tolerate constant little repetitive noises in the background of your life. ... show more

  • Good old school watch
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
I decided to go back to an analog watch and remembered I had one like this growing up. It is made out of hard plastic but can still take a pretty good beating. Nothing too fancy, it has time and date. I would buy again.

Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
This watch is stylish and reasonably priced. The velcro band is practical and comfortable. The push button light is useful in low light conditions. The second hand and date enhance its functionality. It's thickness is just right so it doesn't get in the way. It's a quality timepiece at a low price.

  • VERY durable.
Color: Green Style: FT500WC-3BVCF
I bought it as a cheap watch to use during Airsoft. This thing took a BB straight to the lens and all it did was leave a small scratch/scuff. It’s really good because it’s a simple watch with nothing fancy. Seems to be very accurate. Overall, it’s a great watch to get your hands dirty with.

  • Pretty nice watch for the price
Color: Brown Style: FT500WC-5BVCF
A few years ago I got a similar-looking solar watch costing 4+ times as much as this Casio. Solar charging was great until the battery stopped holding charge. So why not something good-looking and WAY less expensive that I don't have to worry about for the next three years? I doubt I can change the batteries myself and jewelers are few and far between in my area. It might be a case of: Three years from now, get a new watch. In which case, the price of this one is definitely right. The watch is easy to read and attractive. It's a good size for a narrow wrist like mine. I hope keeps time as accurately as claimed. • Changing time/date > Setting time: It's a bit annoying. The knob has no notch of any sort in it as far as I can tell, and it should. Someone with short fingernails is liable to have trouble pulling the stem outward at the right moment when you're setting the time—meaning, as noted in the instructions, when the second-hand reaches "12". I have to use small needle-nose pliers to get the thing pulled at the right moment. As long as I don't have to reset the time often, this is only an inconvenience. Still...kind of a design flaw. The instructions note that you should take care to set the time correctly for AM or PM. How you determine AM/PM with an analogue watching having no specific AM or PM indicator, I don't know. > Setting date: The stem being difficult to pull out isn't as much a problem for setting the date. The instructions don't tell you to wait until the second hand is at some particular spot before setting the date. • 24-hour markings and day-of-month display This is another design flaw IMO: The red markings indicating 24-hour time are too small. At least, they should have been printed in boldface. An old geezer like me has trouble seeing them even while wearing his reading-glasses. (Of course one obvious solution to this is: Don't get old.) The day-of-the-month display is also small and kind of hard to read. But, I don't usually pay attention to the DOM indicator. This isn't not a deal-breaker for me. • Backlight The backlight works fine. Press the button once, and the LED lights up the watch face for a couple of seconds. Note that the separate battery powering the LED is rated for 3 years as long as you use the backlight no more than 9 seconds per day. • Watchband I see that the supplied watchband doesn't score the highest in all reviews. It's comfortable, but the sliding leather loop often gets into the wrong place when I'm putting on the watch. I might just cut off the loop. The hook-and-loop closure is good enough by itself. I like this arrangement better than the conventional watch band design. • Documentation The print is very tiny. Keep a magnifying-glass handy. The DOs and DON'Ts text is much longer than the instructions themselves. :-) • Conclusion The annoyances aren't deal-killers for me. The watch looks nice and if it keeps accurate enough time for the next three years I'll be satisfied with it. 3 stars for now and if it seems to hold up well for a while I'll go to 4. (It won't get to 5 on account of the design of that knob for the stem.) ... show more
