  • Nice value
This was bought for my son as a gift from his daughter. He needed just an everyday watch that wasn’t overly fancy and not too plain. He has been extremely happy with this watch.

  • Great Watch!
I'll have to say this is my third favorite watch behind my Casio dw-6900 and dw-5600e (the original), think of this as the bronze in the Olympics. All three of these watches are winners for me in terms of form, function & flossing on a budget. I like watches and I don't mind spending a little money but I hate spending a lot of money. Anyone of these watches would be excellent and meet one utilitarian needs, but I am an emotional human and like a little variety. Theses three watches offer that and a certain level of quality without breaking the bank. The other two watches are G-Shock and this one is not but it has its own storied past & reputation. It easily holds its own, it's definitely the bronze of these three, but definitely a winner. I don't know which of the other two I like best at first it was the 5600 but the more I wear the 6900 the more I like it, but make no mistake this dw-290 1V is definitely a winner with a swag all its own. Initially I thought I had bought one (or two) watches too many, but I am very happy with all three and wear them a week or two at a time and rotate. Try it you'll like it, recommended. Give it a fair chance almost a G-Shock, not quite, but it's tough enough & ready. ... show more

  • This surprisingly is my favorite watch in my collection. . .Don't knock it till you try it.
I have a lot of watches in my collection including the Casio Diver, Timex Weekender, a Chronos, and a Pagani. Out of all of those, this is the watch I go to the most. It doesn't look as big as it does in pictures, so don't let looks deceive you. I have a 7 inch wrist and it is the perfect size and not bulky. This thing is stylish, not too "nerdy", and honestly looks really nice and fashionable. It doesn't look like a "dad" watch on me. If I'm being honest, I'm completely shocked at how much I love this watch. I didn't think I would. I thought it looked kind of ugly in the pictures and I never had worn a digital watch before. . .Well I promise you it's a worthy buy. Trust me, it's so much more than its picture and you won't be disappointed. It's also durable as crap! I have banged this thing HARD many many times and it still doesn't have a scratch. Did I mention it was Tom Cruises go-to in Mission Impossible? heh heh Dope watch. 10/10. ... show more

  • Affordable, durable tool for scuba diving suited to other sporting/outdoor activities too.
The Casio DW290 is an affordable, durable tool for scuba diving suited to other sporting/outdoor activities too. 47.5 x 45.0 x 13.5mm / 60g This watch was designed to be used for scuba diving so the buttons are easy to use underwater with cold or gloved hands (or cold, gloved hands!), and I can attest to the fact that they work. I have used my GW-M6510 for diving before (as it is rugged and water resistant) but the small, recessed buttons are tricky to operate underwater. Consequently, I wanted something easier to use, but more affordable than a G-Shock, and I chanced upon a review of the DW290 on the Urban Gentry YouTube channel that led me to try this watch. The plastic strap was stiff and uncomfortable to begin with but softened up after a few days. It is quite long but fits over my wetsuit/semi-drysuit well. In everyday wear the tail of the strap is longer than the keeper so I use a ranger band (made from an old inner tube) to manage it. As this watch is not part of the G-Shock range the strap is not curved and will lie flat if necessary. The backlight is bright and makes the display easily read in the dark. The two right hand side buttons (“light” and “start”) are reversed compared to my GW-M6510 which took some time to get used to. The module is fairly simple and the functions are: alarm, countdown and stopwatch. One little feature I particularly like is that I can see the time when in countdown or stopwatch mode. The styling is quite retro (90s) which could be a problem for some people, but I’m old enough that I went to the cinema to see Mission Impossible (1996), consequently, it is not a problem for me. Also, as Tom Cruise wore a very similar watch in that movie (though on a nato or zulu strap) it is suitable for smaller wrists (6.75”/17.1cm). To clarify, I don’t know how big Tom’s wrists are but I am about the same height as him and it fits my wrists well! I have used it on about 20 dives so far (maximum depth 32m) and it has been fine. All in all, I really like it, use it for diving/swimming in the sea 2-3 times a week and consider this watch to be excellent value for money. Highly recommended. ... show more
