Description

CasioWith the launch of its first watch in November 1974, Casio entered the wristwatch market at a time when the watch industry had just discovered digital technology. As a company with cutting-edge electronic technology developed for pocket calculators, Casio entered this field confident that it could develop timepieces that would lead the market.Today, Casio is focusing its efforts on solar-powered radio-controlled watches: the built-in solar battery eliminates the nuisance of replacing batteries, atomic timekeeping means the users never have to reset the time. Recently, Casio launched a series of Bluetooth watches that sync to the users cell phone to automatically update the time. Casio is always moving time forward. Casio men's sporty digital watches

  • It gets the stars primarily because of the low price
I'm a Casio watch fan. I have several. I bought this watch for scuba diving despite the description saying that it is not for scuba diving. This watch is rated to 330ft and was only $12.79 when I bought it so I didn't really mind if it flooded. It worked just fine on dives to over 100ft. It has some downsides. The face is “busy”. I would prefer to have the numbers larger with smaller (or no) graphics. Casio watches are usually simple to adjust, but this one isn't as intuitive as my others that have a recessed “set” button. It took trial and error to set. Sometimes just bending my wrist would press the lower left button causing the local date/time to change to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time/Greenwich Mean Time) which was initially confusing but easy enough to sort out by scrolling through the menu. Because the watch is not recommended for scuba diving I wouldn't recommend intentionally pressing the buttons under water, but I accidentally pressed that button underwater by bending my wrist and the watch didn't flood. The Casio W800H-1AV is also rated to 330ft and has a simpler display, but at the time that I bought my watch it was more expensive. (It is LESS expensive as I write this review.) Overall I'm satisfied with my decision to take a chance and use this watch as a cheap “throw away” dive watch. ... show more

  • Great value
I got this for gym and beach and pool because it's so inexpensive. But it looks good enough to go anywhere! And for someone that cares and wants to use such functions away from a smartphone, the world time and alarm and stopwatch functions are all nice little bonus features. What about performance and longevity? Well, I've never been disappointed on those counts with a Casio product. I bought this to replace a Swatch and there's no way I am going back - I thought the Swatch was decent value at three times this price, so this has to be a steal! ... show more

  • Vintage style, wears good, looks cool, will buy again
A 5 star is a product that is the same as described and as such meets the expectation to work as described or exceed my expectations. When I rolled out on the playground with this bad boy the entire class was asking me where I got the watch. The tallest kid even wanted me to play tether ball with him. Girls wanted to hug and even asked me to play chase in the playground. It was a good day. Tomorrow I think I'll try my luck at 7-11. Maybe my intense style will get me a free slurpy. This watch is definitely a bit difficult to set up. But it's not rocket science just read the instructions and use your intuition and you'll have it set. Size works for me. I am an adult male with small to average size wrists. On my wrists it looks great. Someone said that the seconds hand/ticker in the upper right hand round window is too small to see. It's small but of course you can see it. I was surprised how well I could see it after I read that review. Plus the seconds are ticking away next to the time. So you can literally count the seconds. Construction. It's all plastic. The face covering is plastic. It's very light and although by looking at the price would say it's super cheap it really doesn't feel all that cheap and it doesn't look cheap. I'm pretty stoked to wear this to work with my dress shirt and show off some vintage Casio. When this breaks I'll buy again. I'm going to get a few more for Christmas presents. ... show more

  • The sporty "Casio-Royale".
I bought one of these about many years ago and had forgotten why I didn't have it anymore, but I'll get into that. There are a large number of color variations available for this watch. I believe I originally had the navy-blue/yellow version. I believe the AE1000 came out before the now-slightly-famous AE1200 "Casio-Royale" version. They both have all the same functions but in a different design. Main differences: - AE1000 has a sportier look to the AE1200's more retro look. - AE1000's buttons are larger and easier to press. - AE1000 has a more symmetrical LCD layout that makes better use of available space. - AE1000 has larger time, day, and date digits. - AE1000 has one LED backlight in the corner compared to the 2 LEDs in the AE1200. - AE1000 has a very uncomfortable, stiff resin strap. That last point is the one I remember. The material used between the AE1000 and AE1200 straps appear to be the same, but the ribs near the lugs in the AE1000 strap are very think and inflexible. They tend to dig into the sides of the wrist. If you have ever worn a Seiko SKX on it's original rubber strap, you will know what I mean. Heating the strap in boiling water and bending it can help some, but they seem to return to their original shape over time. The good news is that the straps are interchangeable with the AE1200 and AE1300, which have a similar look and are much more comfortable. There are also lots of aftermarket straps available on that one chinese website, eBay, and elsewhere. ... show more

  • Cannot lock time zone
I like the watch but it is too small for me to read the date without glasses and the time is smaller than I prefer, but that's on me. Not an issue with the watch. My issue with the watch is the time zone changes with a bump of the button. I got the watch due to my traveling around the US for work and being able to set it on the time zone I was in was very convenient. However, I was constantly finding the incorrect time zone was set. The button for changing will get bumped at times and this changes the zone without realizing. Many times I looked and knew the time was wrong, but other times I was off by an hour and did not realize it initially. This can be a major issue in airports. This became extremely annoying and after a couple months, I gave up on the watch and moved back to a Timex with only two times, but they do not change easily. If Casio would have put a lock mode, just make you hold for 3 seconds to change zones, this watch would be perfect. As it is, I find it unusable. ... show more
