I used to have 1 1st generation Peticure nail grinder, and it was awful. It stopped spinning if I pressed on the nail all and the head was so large I couldn't maneuver to get the right angle to safely sand down my pet's nails. So I abandoned the idea and went back to clipping. Problem is, my dog has those black nails that are impossible to clip without cutting the quick, and nail trim time became torture. My poor girl was left with bloody claws and I was left with massive guilt. But then I saw a video of a pro groomer demonstrating how to use the new generation of nail grinders - this generation - and I decided to give it a try. It took many sessions of show grinder, treat... turn on grinder, treat... tough grinder, treat... until now I can grind one claw and my pups wait patiently for their treat. And their nails are now shorter, rounded and no more sharp edges - or bloody paws! I ended up taking off the guard so I can change angles easier while moving to each side of the nail. TIP: make sure the grinder head is moving AWAY from the claw when you touch it, not toward, so that the head doesn't skip and bounce on the claw. I have a PitBull she is 3 years old and almost 100lbs. When I go to clip her nails she is hard to hold, so I am afraid of hurting her, so I have been filing them with my fingernail file, she had enough patients for me to file 1 sometimes 2 at a time. Seen this had to give it a try, she allowed me to do 1 complete foot, and now I am able to file a little off each nail every time.. the different speeds makes it so much easier, and allows you to file a little of a nail within seconds vs manual going back and fourth with a normal nail file. I can do touch evey nail with the tool in the amount of time I was able to do one with a regular nail file. She is happy, which makes me happy.. thank you only concern I have is being able to find the replacement part that is needed for this certain machine to file the mail. ... show more

My Great Pyranees mix has bear claws. Big, thick, black nails. This makes it very difficult to trim them and since I've hit the quick many times over the last 12 years, she is afraid of the process and so am I. I've tried a corded rotary tool with the sanding barrels before but she was scared of that and it was too difficult, so I just tried to cut them normally but it was hard and the nails have always been longer than they should be. But battery tech has improved over the last 10 years a lot and better products can be found for very cheap prices more so than back then. So I got this one based on reviews and videos on sale and I can't believe how calm she is when I'm using it. I use treats like I always have, but she doesn't pull her paws back and doesn't show any anxiety at all. None. She just sits there while I grind slowly. I'm learning how to position her paws and the tool and my body (I have to lay on the floor with her) but I'm sure we will figure out the best positioning over the next few weeks. I'm grinding pretty frequently at the moment (every few days) just a little bit because I have a lot to trim back until it's a normal length and I'm taking just a millimeter or so off at a time to allow the quick to recede. So not only do I have that amount of precise control of the tool, but she even lays her head down and closes her eyes while I do it. Such a difference from the scissor type clippers. And with the light and rechargeable battery, it's a real shame I didn't have this option years ago. ... show more

this thing works great. i have a 6 month old blue heeler who would for the last 4 months, not sit still once the standard nail clipper was on his nail. always pulling his foot away at the last second. and i so i never trimmed his nails cuz he pulled like that and i was too nervous to hit his quick. my last 2 dogs were fine to lay down, roll over on their side and let me clip their nails with standard clippers. this pup hated it. would not sit still. kept jerking his foot away as soon as it was on the nail. this tool…. i turned it on a couple times for 2 days and got it near him. gave him a couple treats. then once he was used to the sound (which is quieter than i expected) i said shake and touched a nail with it. gave him a treat, then longer and longer filing with it. and slowly earning another treat. now on day 3…he just sits still and allows me to dremel his nails. they are perfectly short and filed without any hassle from him. for the first time in 4 months. and it works very quickly if he sits still. which now he does. love it. i hope it lasts awhile for the price. love the rechargeable battery. fingers crossed this thing holds up. ... show more
