First, I'd like to say that the retailer, Shepherd Hills, is not at fault. In my opinion, the problem lies with the quality control first and customer service second at WR Case & Sons Cutlery Company. This is the second Case knife I've tried to purchase in the last month or so. The first knife was returned because the bolsters were covered with scratches as if they were missed in the polishing process. I expected that knife to arrive fully polished like other pocketknives I've owned. In fact, the knife in this review, the Case XX WR Pocket Knife Large Stockman Crimson Jig Bone Item #22825 (6375 SS) arrived nicely polished, no scratches on the bolsters. Just what I would expect. However, upon opening it the very first time the spey, clip point, and sheepsfoot blades scratched each other. It seems the geometry of the blade arrangement or distance allowed between the brass liners is not adequate. I immediately contacted Case by email the day I received it on January 27th. I then submitted their online form to obtain service on January 29th. After waiting 13 days with no response, I called the customer service number at Case. I was 4th in the phone queue this morning but waited 65 minutes for help. The only thing that accomplished was the representative sent their own email to service. To their credit, I then promptly received an email from the service department but was told that the issue is "blade rub, which is a common characteristic with three bladed stockman knives." I was extremely disappointed with their response. My feeling is that Case should make this "common characteristic" known in their sales materials right there with the attributes extolled in order to sell the knife. In my opinion, if the consumer is made aware of the "common characteristic" and still chooses to purchase the knife, so be it. This is not unlike letting consumers know their chrome vanadium products will tarnish. To do otherwise is disingenuous at best. I completely understand that bolsters and blades will be scratched over time. I personally try to avoid this by carrying my pocketknife in a pocket without change, car keys, etc. If scratches happen, that is my own fault. I foolishly hoped for a better response from a company that not only sells knives but the cachet of "Made in the USA." ... show more
