So I bought a large Case stockman with crimson bone scale a week ago. Hated it, scales looked like cheap plastic, all three blades were dull as a butter knife. Returned it. Decided to try Case again and bought the Trapper in smooth synthetic orange. Absolutely love this knife, hair popping sharp out of the box, perfect fit and finish for the price point. I purchased the stainless steel model. When I received it, the grind was extremely steep, asymmetric, and felt as though it were sharpened on a sidewalk. I worked on the edge for about 2 hours to re profile the edge to 40 degrees. The steel was extremely hard to sharpen. I got it to where it can sort of shave hairs, but it seems to be all the knife has. Blades on all of my other knives I sharpen to a hair shaving edge with much less drama. I may or may not try a carbon steel model. I am pretty content with my Spyderco, Benchmade, Victorinox, Mora, Ontario, SOG, etc... knives, all of which are better than this knife. I was expecting much more with all of the reviews praising Case knives. Maybe the stainless models are just garbage. ... show more

Outstanding knife. I love it. I was not going to buy it because the one review stated the the knife has to much side play when opening. I did not experience that. In fact I think the knife opens perfect. It is not so hard that it feels like it will rip off your finger nail. But firm enough that you can trust it opening and staying opening. The blades are razor sharp. I like the orange color so it makes it harder for me losing it while working outside. It is made in the USA and it is very high quality. It should last for many generations if it is not abused. ... show more

Case knives are always great quality. Bought this knife for my brother in law as a gift. He loved it! Highly recommend this for a great work knife and possibly also a hand me down over the generations. I still have mine that was passed down from my grandfather.
