My cat loves to wake me up by picking at the carpet if the door is closed. He has learned that I jump up and stop him if he does this as he is big on carpet destroying in door ways. We lost $200 at the last apartment due to him doing this over time and slowly damaging it too the fibers of the carpet. Even when we used blankets or towels to stop him the problem persisted. I wish I knew of this back then, at our new apartment we did this before he did damage and now he has stopped the habit as the plastic protects the doorway and I don’t mind if he scratches the plastic, my rolling medical cart can’t go over it well, I don’t trip on it. My only complaint may be that it should be a bit wider, however we just layered it with two but that does increase the potential for tripping on it which I did once before I learned my lesson, but over all it stays put and stops the damage which I appreciate. It does require trimming but is fairly easily done with quality scissors. Take your time and trim a little and test, repeat. Once completed, it did stop the cats from getting to the carpet…for a day or two. The problem is they are still able to pull up an end but we put something overtop of the edge. Probably needs to be a thicker, heavier material but then would be harder to trim around your door frame and you DO want to get it trimmed as precise as you can. ... show more

A smooth plastic sheet was too easy for her to move, even with books holding down the ends. This one is bigger and the little protuberances prevent it from sliding. It is also bigger and heavier than what I had before. It turned out to be the perfect width and I didn’t have to cut it. This carpet protector has been a lifesaver for dealing with my cat’s scratching. I put it over the areas she kept clawing, and it immediately stopped the damage. It stays in place well and creates a tough barrier that cats can’t easily dig into, but it’s still discreet enough that it doesn’t ruin the look of the room. Installation was quick and simple, and I didn’t need any special tools. It hasn’t lifted or curled at the edges, even with daily foot traffic. Since putting it down, my carpet hasn’t had any new snags or pulled fibers. If you have a cat that targets your carpet, this is absolutely worth it. Very practical product. I have a cat who tries to claw his way through the carpet and under a door if you shut him out of a room for any reason. I like to sleep with my bedroom door shut and found that he was clawing into the carpet around the doorframe a lot when I would close the door. This was the perfect size to provide adequate protection the carpet on both sides of my bedroom door frame. The plastic is thick but it’s easy to unroll, lay flat, and then cut to size.
