This extremely well crafted trumpet is impressive. Materials and workmanship are top quality, well equal to many trumpets selling for more than double. The sound is excellent, but...with the bell so close to the ear, it sounds louder to the player than a normal trumpet. It has great tone that is very bright, but bright like a full size trumpet that is bright, and not bright like you might expect a tiny trumpet might be missing undertones. It does not have a first valve slide, but the third valve slide is operated with the thumb and works very smoothly with good compression. Took very little getting used to using the thumb for this. Lots of reviews talk about how great this is for a travel/pratice horn, but I like it for performing in my Dixieland band where it really attracts attention for its tiny size and full sound. Some mutes will not fit the smaller bell, and I had to make a custom floor stand for it, and large fingers might find it difficult to hold or to get the valve caps off, but those are minor nits. I love holding it, and oiling the valves only takes half-second longer to get between the tubing when grabbing the caps. Overall GREAT value in a very unique C trumpet with a big sound.

From the picture and the description at the web site I thought I ordered a Yellow Brass mini pocket trumpet in C. What I received was a black lacquer version (see picture). I hope it is in the key of C and not Bb. . . .This is an update to my previous post. The company has been very accomodating and easy to correspond with. They sent me a Yellow Brass mini pocket trumpet to replace the black lacquer version I first received. Great customer service. It looks and plays great!

NOTE: This review is for the Bb model, not the C model. This is a very nice little horn, but I have found that for actual playing situations, if you need to play in the lower register - below C - you may need to secure a precision valve alignment because the blow becomes very stuffy and challenging pitch-wise. Above low C, the horn plays much better and better in tune. Very good little practice horn, but because of these limitations for live performance (including the smaller bell/smaller projection), perhaps a standard sized pocket trumpet would be more suitable for you.
