Description

Different than all other live sand products on the market. This live sand utilizes patent pending Sea Breathe technology; which preserves real live sand with its own original bacteria. Every bag of Ocean Direct is alive and breathing with up to 1000 times more beneficial bacteria than other preservation methods. Every grain of Ocean Direct is coated with bacteria and encapsulated by capillary action in a thin film of real ocean water. The thin film is open to the atmosphere for unparalleled gas exchange. This results in high counts of natural and beneficial bacteria with no noxious buildup of metabolic by-products. Ocean Direct provides you with a thriving, natural aquarium in minutes!

  • Good
Started an instant fish only with this and dry sand in just a few days. Lower salinity, raise heat, add ammonia, cycle first 2 days ,monitor levels, water change, add fish, and done. All within 5 days probably. The clarifier worked as well, and I did not pre rinse just let the filter take it out.

  • Great for cycling
If you want to add fish right away ocean direct is great. Dont use instant cycles without reading directions though.

  • I'm only giving this 4 stars because Amazon is amazing, but this product actually has some questionable claims/directions
I'm only giving this 4 stars because Amazon is amazing, but this product actually has some questionable claims/directions. Beware of the "NO RINSING NEEDED" statement, you need to THOROUGHLY rinse this, especially if you have a small tank, and you're OCD about water pristine-ness. This thing will turn your water, and everything in your tank, as if you'd dumped a 10 gallon jug of powder Muscle Milk in the water. Follow the "pre-wash" instructions on the back as a MUST, to avoid killing all the bio load. I had to end up resetting my ENTIRE new nano reef setup and hose it outside, killing all my bacteria in the process (I saved about 1/5 lb of the live sand aside before I did this), because the white gunk was just a pain to see allover my tank. FYI. Otherwise, nice white sand. ... show more

  • the only sand I use
This is the only sand I use in my reef tank. When I set up my tank this is the one I use and when I need to add extra sand this same sand I use. It didn't affect my water parameters. Best of all the water clears out fast so the fish and corals are not irritated when you add this in a running tank.

  • A Quick Cycle, but nothing amazing.
Well, disregard what others are saying about dead inverts arriving it your sand. "Live Sand," should not have any visible inverts in it, it should just have microscopic bacteria life that quickens your cycle of your reef tank. Pros: -Quick Cycle Cons: -Thick grains of sand -Arrived Cold Anyways... If you are ordering this product you should know what it is and how it should arrive, if you do not, you are not ready for this hobby. However, i will explain. This 5 pound bag is a great start for someone trying their luck at a pico aquarium (under 5 gallons), while only for the experienced hobbyist, they can be a lot of fun. For me, the sand arrived cold due to poor packaging. This is a No-No and means that most if not all of the bacteria had died. However you do get a "bacteria starter mystery liquid looking thing" that comes with the sand. I would like to believe that it was real, but I really have no clue, it could just be some water. I was also disappointed because this sand had quiet a bit of crushed coral in it, and was not as fine as I wanted. If you want fine sand, get a FIJI live sand. But, thats my fault for not researching it more. Lastly, my cycle was completed in a record 10 days most likely due to the fact that I used live sand and live rock. ... show more
