This device is slightly larger than I would have hoped. However, I have never found one that is smaller. I have attached a picture with it next to my glasses to show scale. It uses 2 AA batteries. I plan on using this on business trips when I need to use the heater in a hotel. I also will send this with my daughter when she goes to winter camp. The peace of mind that comes with knowing that an alarm will sound when CO is high is very valuable. I honestly do not know how to test this, so I cannot vouch for its function. You may think it’s weird to travel with a carbon monoxide detector, but I’ve heard too many stories about hotel guests getting accidentally poisoned by CM. This little detector is probably about two inches across and would easily fit in a suitcase. It runs on AAA batteries. It seems like a standard detector to me. It has a test button that functions. This CO detector is about half the size of my cell phone and fits in my palm with room to spare. It isn't too fancy but seems accurate from what I can tell. I love that it takes AAA batteries which I'm more likely to have on hand than trying to find a button battery at a random future time when replacement is needed. The instructions clearly describe where the detector should be mounted on the ceiling in your house, but I rent so I have it rigged up to a push pin hook because I didn't want to drill permanent holes. Works great because it is so lightweight! Only weird thing is that it does a countdown from 20 on the screen when the batteries are first installed and that wasn't mentioned in the instructions. Recommend this for bedrooms or traveling when you want to be extra safe. ... show more

I can’t really tell if it works or not since I haven’t had a Carbon Monoxide leak, it I plan on take this with me when I travel. Easy instructions and easy to install the battery. Also super small and travel size.

This is smaller than I expected, so it’s inconspicuous. It includes a small instruction pamphlet and it’s useful, though not terribly well arranged. Removing the back cover to install the batteries was difficult. The instructions were less than helpful for this. The pamphlet kept saying to ‘twist’ off the back, though the arrows on the device itself were all straight. Once I installed the batteries, I pressed the ‘test’ button on the front. It beeped and provided a reading of CO ppm in the vicinity, which I checked against the chart on the pamphlet. The back plate mounts directly onto the wall with anchors and screws. Given its small and separating the back plate can be tricky, I’ll be careful not to put it higher than I can manipulate with ease. ... show more
