Beautiful and comprehensive cookbook
Everyone asks this question: What's on the menu for this week? This wonderful cookbook will help you answer that question several times a day and every day of the year! This is a beautiful and very comprehensive cookbook. I really like that they include a picture for every recipe. There is a wealth of information in this cookbook that includes every thing from the basics to more advanced info. Perfect for a novice chef! Lots of basic recipes that are great for every day but it also has recipes for special occasions, parties, brunches, etc. I also appreciate how they explain the different cuts of meat and cooking methods. The recipes use ingredients that I know and are not obscure. Most of them have ingredients that are in most pantries. All in all a very good cookbook with hundreds of recipes and abundant information to help anyone become a better home chef! This is a cookbook that I will turn to for inspiration and ideas for years to come!

This cookbook is bombdigity good!!!

I bought this as a bday gift 4 my daughters 30th bday, her cooking skills have improved 100%. She absolutely loves this recipe book, she said the recipes are very easy 2 follow & so far every recipe she has tried has come out delicious. This recipe book has all the old school recipes that my mom used 2 use back n the day when I was a kid growing up/my mom could cook really good meals, always kept me/my brothers coming back 4 more. I do recommend this recipe book 2 anyone looking 2 better their cooking skills especially 4 those who may not cook so well n the kitchen as was the case of my daughter. She is now a 5 star cook, her family is now excited when it's time 4 whatever meal she is preparing 2 cook, they are ready 2 come sit at the kitchen table eager/ready 2 devour whatever she puts in front of them. I'm so glad I purchased this recipe book 4 her/she thanks me quite often 4 buying this recipe book 4 her. You cant go wrong with this book, it's all good. I would definitely recommend this recipe book/I wouldn't hesitate purchasing this book again as a gift 4 anyone who may b n need of some help n the kitchen or 4 anyone who would like 2 have this book n general as an added tool of their arsenal of cookbooks collection. Loved by a die hard Betty Crocker user!
I bought this cookbook for my 25 yr old bachelor son because he is always calling me for basic, standard information when trying to cook or bake recipes off Pinterest. He went through my 1992 Betty Crocker one day and loved all the basic information it provided…definitions of cooking terms, substitutions, tips and techniques, etc. I understood since I learned to cook from my Mom’s 1970s edition. While I searched for an updated Betty Crocker, they were definitely not up to parr with the older editions. Attempts to order my 1990s edition resulted in sellers sending the wrong cookbook. Frustrated, I put away my prejudice and checked out some BHG cookbooks. After reading good reviews on this cookbook, I purchased it and was not disappointed. It is a fabulous comprehensive, basic cookbook with many practical tips and ideas to streamline meal prep. It is also beautifully illustrated, with pictures for every recipe. This old dog is still learning some new tricks. BHG has definitely earned my respect with this cookbook. Would recommend for beginners as well as experienced cooks.

Good, but no substitute to the original binder versions

Solid cookbook, but I don't think it provides as much value as the old-school binder ones. Those were easier to use (flip and take out the single recipe sheet v. lugging this around and trying to keep it propped open), had excellent quick references on the interior cover flaps for conversions and basic recipes, and felt like like a "cleaner" layout. I like the color photographs, tips, and "updated"/more culturally-diverse recipes, but also felt like this strays a lot from the beloved but very well-worn copy of my mother's checkered cookbook and the recipes I grew up on. This cookbook covers a lot of ground, but I think it's trying to be too much everywhere so it loses some of its appeal. If I want Mexican, Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern, etc. type of dishes, I'm going to search for those cookbooks because they'll do a better job of going in depth on ingredients, flavor profiles, and cooking techniques. I'm keeping it and will try some of the recipes, but I'm still going to find a copy of my mother's cookbook in good condition and use that as my "main" one. Part nostalgia, part familiarity, and part just feels like a much better value despite some of the antiquated recipes and language. So, -1/2 star for that. I recognize it's my own fault for not flipping through a copy before buying, and I bought it to substitute for another book I love. Can't blame the BHG for my personal taste. But -1/2 star for the way my used copy was packaged. This was supposed to be a "Used-Very Good" condition copy, but it arrived only packaged in a thin plastic bag that had partially torn open, a sticky residue on the cover, an obviously sticky spot where a label once was, and a slight smell like it came from a smoking household. Looked brand new inside, but I'm quarantining it until some of the smell dissipates and I can figure out a way to clean off the gunk so it doesn't stick to other cookbooks on my shelf.

I accidentally got rid of my older BHG cookbook during a move and decided to replace it. I really love the front that goes into so much info on all the tools, ingredients, methods, etc...with pictures, too! It also has a bookmark! a simple thing but awesome. It has plenty of "standard" which makes me feel better since I don't buy cookbooks for fancy or new foods. I just need to feed my family. Of course, they do have lots of the "fancy" recipes. I'm just happy with the balance. They have info on time for cooking types of meats by cut and method. It sometimes seems a bit odd to have recipes divided by use (breakfast, brunch, etc). They do still have separate sections for bread, veg, dessert, poultry, etc... The sections by use are handy, though, for figuring out what to serve. either way, the index will always point you in the direction you need to go. Only con (and I'm not sure it even is) is that it is hardcover instead of binder. The pages of my binders often tore out but easily stayed flat and were easy to photocopy, if needed, for travel. I don't expect the pages in the hardcover to fall out. While it stays open, it's not flat. We'll see how annoying that is. I'll probably get one of the book weights to keep it open. Anyway, all together, I love it

My trusted companion for years is updated!
I love this cookbook! I learned to cook as a child with the old plaid version - and I have added newer editions (and even older ones as I find them) because these recipes will turn out wonderfully. I like to compare the old with the new... and I still love the photographs as they are just so beautiful and distinctive. I love the new organization that changes with the times and reflects the cooking trends of the day. While I own physical copies of the cookbooks, it is nice to also own the digital versions. As the Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks have been around for ages, I feel they are an excellent, trusted source when I need a reference or some ideas as I create my own dishes. You will definitely enjoy the baking sections! Follow the steps EXACTLY, and your yeast breads, cakes, and cookies... etc will turn out perfectly. Whether you are a novice or a pro, you will find something new to try!

Terrific - Highly Recommend!!

I love to cook and I'm one of those people who read cookbooks for fun. However, I don't buy too many because there are so many bad ones. I hate it when recipes have so many ingredients it's overwhelming to even think about making. Also, why is it so hard to include a picture with every recipe in this day and age? This cookbook is so well done. Pictures for every single recipe and reasonable length of ingredients. For the most part, the recipes appear to use whole foods. I saw a couple that included a canned soup (not using that) but it really was a rare occurrence. My mom used to have the 3-ring binder version but I don't think it's a big deal at all that they switched to hardback. It lays nicely on the table. Also, its such a great deal for the price!!
