Included nice storage case has individual spaces for each tool-but whoever packed this just put them in haphazard (not in the fitted spaces) so the result was 3 of the 4 cutters have CHIPPED EDGES! Granted the individual spaces were VERY snug when I put them in their proper place so my guess is the persons packing these could not spend the time to put them in properly. I am an experienced woodworker but beginning wood turner. Have not tried yet but was disappointed with the chipped edges. UPDATE! Review has been updated to 5 star as seller reached out promptly and is sending a new set of cutter tips to correct the situation. With that I will be very satisfied with my purchase. ... show more

These are good, sharp lathe tools. They remove material fast and make some clean shavings, and best of all, they stay sharp way longer than any HSS tools, which means I don’t have to pause my project to hone my tools every 5 minutes. I use them to turn very hard woods like Osage orange and lemon eucalyptus and these tools have no issue. I also really love how long these are! If you’re hesitant to buy carbide tools because you heard HSS is sharper or leaves a cleaner finish, don’t let that stop you. HSS dulls fast so they’ll only be sharper than carbide for a few seconds on the lathe, and I haven’t found the finish thing to really be a concern. The case they come in is sturdy and convenient with some high quality insert foam. The seller is super helpful, too. One of my tools came with a chipped cutter and they sent me a whole pack of spare cutters. I would say the only flaw these tools have is that the vibrations from using these on the lathe seem to make the threads on the ferrule rattle a bit loose. It’s only the thread of the ferrule itself that attaches to the handle, the set screws that clamp the actual tool are solid. The ferrule won’t actually come loose so it’s not a huge issue and all the pros these tools have more than compensate for this one con. I’d say you really can’t go wrong with them. This set is a solid build well though out tool set. I really like the flexibility of configuration. You can use a different tool in each handle, or connect the handles together if you need more leverage. I can't see me needing that very often. So i have two handles. I turned some walnut bases for some lithophane lamps I made and the tools worked great. I'm just a beginning turner but the tools cut the walnut smooth as silk. I am very happy with the tools. The only suggestion I have is you may want to use some removable lock-tight on the handle adapter to secure it a bit better. If I could order two new handles I would and just keep all the tools mounted. I think this is a great value for a beginning word worker. They may even be great for a pro, but I'm not one so I can't judge that :) ... show more

I know these are not pro series chisels, but I am an occasional turner and for me, they are perfect. My set is nicely machined with super tight tolerance on the tips. I suspect the threaded heads may work loose as I use them (we’ll see) but a little thread locker will fix that if they do. Overall I’m very impressed for the price. Update: I have now used them and they are even better than I expected. Had no idea that doubling the length of the handle would make such an enormous difference. Used the round tipped end for hollowing and seemed to be just as good as a dedicated boring bar. Not sure I am a fan of the hollowing tool, but it isn't a design flaw, I am just not great at using a chisel with a curved overhang. Now I want gouges to fit! ... show more

Very sharp and effective for making bowls and lidded jars. Cut through some fresh cut maple well and I've made 4 or 5 pieces with them so far. I was surprised by quality given they are probably from China. Had one small issue with the order and seller addressed it for me right away.

    • Seem to work good
I am no expert at lathe work, but I do enjoy it and I am getting better. I use two of the tools a lot and they cut well and replacement blades are not that expensive on amazon. These tools come in a case for storage, which is nice.
