This does exactly what it says, and I recommend it. I have a 2011 Subaru Legacy with a factory nav system and a Harmon Karman sound system. To replace it with an updated head unit is expensive and I lose functions (like steering wheel controls and backup camera). Purchased this and have had it for a few weeks including a 20 hour road trip. I love it. It’s just what I was hoping for. I can connect sound directly from my phone into the car’s sound system and control it via CarPlay from the Intellidash. Big plus: keeps my eyes on the road and enables me to be safer, much less squinting at the phone and selecting stuff from small icons while driving. Downsides: the internal speaker quality is terrible, and that seems to be the default for the unit (I have to unplug the phone and replug it to play through the car’s speakers), and also for phone calls (which requires fiddling on the phone itself), rather than the car’s Bluetooth phone. Also, there’s no auto-dimming feature for driving at night, and that requires some work to dim the display so it doesn’t blind me at night. I opted to use the car’s CD slot to mount the device and keep it a bit out of sight and closer to my hands. Definitely recommend for what it is. UPDATE: Several months and many road trips later, I highly recommend it. This is the best money I’ve spent in a long time for entertainment and safety. I also figured out that if I leave the aux out of the Intellidash cable plugged into the aux in if my radio, I don’t need to plug in my phone to hear the sound through the car’s stereo. And because it’s wireless, I don’t even need to remove the phone from my pocket. I guess it’s not possible for the Intellidash instruction manual to detail what to do for every vehicle, but general guidance would have been helpful for how to set it up. The moral of the story: it’s worth it, but you’ll need to play around to find the ideal setup for your vehicle.

LAST UPDATE: After the firmware upgrade I'm satisfied with this device and am keeping it. There are still some bugs in the way calls are handled - if you are on a call and then get in the car, for example, it's hard to tell where your call has gone and how to get the audio through the car. This might be b/c the car is fighting with the Intellidash for the connection and it's a situation my car never handled well anyway pre-Intellidash, but much more clunky now. But anyway, I think that's something I can live with as it's not a common case. The whole process of getting in the car at home - phone is on home wifi, then connects to Intellidash wifi, and also connects to car bluetooth - it's a wonder the thing works at all. UPDATE #2: I had contacted support with a list of bugs and this weekend they sent me a new firmware version. After some challenge with the USB (needs FAT32 format), I was able to perform an upgrade. Device audio now seems to work properly with phone calls, and the device even retained my region and clock settings after a brief power off. I'll be testing it more today on a drive, but after a quick check yesterday things seem much improved and I may be keeping this device after all. UPDATE (after a week): I REALLY wanted this to work...but the device inability to handle phone calls properly along with the loss of settings at power off ended up being deal breakers in daily use. Even tried using a cable and turning off Bluetooth/wifi completely - still didn't handle calls right - the call audio came out the iPhone speaker. Was planning to return, but see update above. This device is a brilliant solution to the CarPlay problem for cars like mine where the head unit can't be replaced due to the controls being integrated with the touchscreen (the negative comments on other sites saying "just upgrade the head unit"...UGH)! If the MFR is watching and taking inputs, other stuff this needs besides the bug fixes: - Ambient light detection for option to auto-adjust screen brightness - Volume option to set voice/nav separately from music This is ALMOST awesome. Buggy, needs some work: - Doesn't remember settings unless it stays connected to live power. If your car turns off the 12VDC when you turn it off (as it rightfully should!), the device loses config/settings, although iPhone can still connect via CarPlay without reconfiguring. This is a design flaw - it should use non-volatile memory to store settings. Maybe a future version of this device will fix, but probably not fixable in software. (but see Update 2 above - may be fixed!) Clock keeps time but probably has a small battery for that. Settings lost include: -Region setting. Resets to Europe on power off. No clear impact for US users on this, just annoying. -FM Transmitter settings. If you use FM transmitter, the on/off state (and probably frequency) is lost at power loss. Workaround is to use Aux cable if your system supports. -Screen brightness settings. This is sort of a big one...have to mess with brightness each restart. - I can't tell that the screen sunrise/sunset settings do anything at all. Seems to run the same brightness all the time - there's also no config option to change the brightness settings separately for day vs evening. There is a simple brightness icon on the main menu...it behaves strangely too - the device starts up with one brightness level, then you can press the icon to switch to a dimmer mode, then if you press it again it switches to a much brighter mode, but a third press goes back to the dim/dark mode, not the power-on level. Not really sure what this button is supposed to do but it is a quick way to change brightness. - Calls don't work - you can call out, but no audio comes through speakers in carplay mode. This is a pretty fundamental flaw for something that is supposed to take over phone function. When a call is made through CarPlay, the call shows up on the Bluetooth call screen of the vehicle, not on the device (which apparently connects initially to iPhone via Bluetooth and then switches to WiFi). And then no speaker audio is heard, although at least one of the mics in the car is picking up on my end. (See update #2 - this may be resolved now.) - Wouldn't mind if it came with a USB-C to Lightning cable! It comes with a C-to-C only. Also, it should come with a right-angle aux cable in addition to the right angle power cable. It makes sense, right? - Included in the box is a QR code that doesn't work, and a link to a website that is faulty. But the support email address works and the folks were helpful, but no solutions offered to my issues yet (other than keep it connected to power all the time!) No new firmware available yet. Since this is a Gen 2 device, I'm hoping they are actively working on software!

The following reviews are LITERALLY over 3 days (Reverse Order) =========================== Day Three - 1 Star While this seemed to work fine for the first 2 days of its existence - it has blown my car's lighter power fuse. Twice. One right after the other. Returning. -------------------------- Day Two - 4 Stars This thing is BIG. It blocks too much of my windshield and makes me nervous. I tried to put it somewhere where it doesn't block my vision, but not too many places work. PLUS the Cable management is bad. There is NO reason the cable connections shouldn't be in the rear. Lately - tried to upgrade the firmware: a. This is the DU1000 - but according to the Firmware Download site, I ACTUALLY have a 950S. No idea what the difference is - but I was sold a 1000 and got a 950S. That doesn't sit well. b. Couldn't get the firmware upgrade to work. You are connected to my phone via BT AND WiFi - why don't you auto-update?? -------------- Day One - 5 Stars Just installed today and used on a few trips. Installed in a 2017 Mini This is bigger than I expected - but is actually about the same size as the OEM touch screen in my Jeep. Set up was easy. Connects quickly. Works exactly like the OEM CarPlay in my Jeep - except with Wireless CarPlay. Will follow up if anything changes.

I bought this as a Mother's day gift for my mom who was about to go on a road trip. She has an older Equinox that has Bluetooth but the BT is really only good for phone calls. Not for Navigation like Waze or Google maps on your phone. So she used a portable GPS. I wanted her to have the option to use Waze or Apple Maps for Navigation. This worked well for that. The sound was great. I was not happy about the wireless connectivity though. It wouldn't respond to voice commands. It displayed Waze, but everything had to be done on the phone, which was not ideal. We ended up switching to wired a connection to the phone and using the 3.5mm audio plug to connect to the car audio. It could have been the car, or it could be bad software on the device. It works awesome hard wired, but don't rely on the wireless. Do not get this is wireless is important to you. One last thing. Navigation apps often rely on internet connectivity. If you're in a bad cell service area, you'll want to use a portable GPS that doesn't rely on cell service to download data.

I have had this unit over a month now, and wanted to give a fair review of it. I was hoping to find something like this from a brand I trust, like Sony or something of that nature, but most name brands only offer complete head units with Carplay as opposed to just a stand-alone Carplay device like this. So since I'm a car guy, I thought at least maybe a Car & Driver branded unit might have good quality. The sound quality and screen quality are great. So no complaints there. Part of the reason I bought the wireless vs wired Carplay, is because I do deliveries in my car, so I'm in and out of my car, with my phone, a lot. Plugging in and unplugging is a pain. Yet, this unit really struggles with this apparently. Maybe every ten times or so, it essentially locks up, will not reconnect, and I have to unplug it to reset it in order for it to resume working again. I also find it a little frustrating that it lags a couple seconds. So if I hit pause, or skip forward on a podcast for instance, wait two seconds, and then it'll pause. I emailed support for C&D, this was the exchange: First, what I wrote them: "Hello. I have been using this unit about a week now, and generally really like it. I have noticed a few issues with it that I wanted to ask about. First: When playing podcasts connected via carplay, there's serious lag, about two seconds, from when I hit pause, skip, etc., and when it actually does it. Second: I use this while doing deliveries, where I have to use my phone, so I'm in and out of the car constantly. When I go out of range, it will occasionally lock up Carplay and not respond (other commands still seem to work). Once I return to being in the car again, it's still frozen, and refuses to reconnect or even acknowledge I've pressed Carplay. The only solution seems to be to restart it, while turning my phone on airplane mode to reset it as well. Third: Last night, I came back to the car, and it did still play my podcast through the unit, but the screen itself was frozen, and the little timer was not advancing at all, and didn't start working again for about two minutes before it finally started showing the timer moving again. I'm fairly tech savvy, and am happy to help improve the UI any way I can, if you're able to connect me with someone from tech support, and not just a regular CS person who just runs through a checklist. But if these problems persist or get worse, or of support is not one anything more than generic CS reading off a list, I'll likely return the unit while I'm still able to. These issues are really frustrating on a brand new unit. Thanks in advance." Then this was their response (typo's included): "Hi there, thank you for contacting us. We will try to answer your concernces one at a time. The 2 seconds lag is pretty normal. Kepp in mind that your signal is coming from the phone and then bounces to the Intellidash. If you are in and out of your vehicle performing deliveries it may freeze as the Intellidash was not off and then on. You are cutting the signal from the smartphone to the Intellidash everytime you walk away and is out of range. We never heard anythinglike this before which could be again if the unit still on and you walked away the connection is cut and when you return it may not be connecting correctly. We would like to suggest that you do not connect your smartphone and then access the setting in the Intellidash to perform a factory reset and see if this helps. If additional issues occurred or you are still eperiencing problem, please give us a call at our support number below so that we can better assist you." As you can see, they were of little help. The reset did not work. And the unit does not seem to have any option to even update it. Nor did they offer to work on an update that might address it. So if you're not in and our of the car much, I think you'll likely like the unit. Otherwise, you may end up pretty frustrated. Also, small complaint, it has a brightness setting, but as near as I can tell, you cannot access it once you're connected to Carplay. These settings are on the home menu, but as soon as your car connects to it via Carplay, there seems to be no way to go to the home screen.

This review is for the wireless version of the device which I feel has significantly updated my 15 y/o car. I don’t usually take the time to review purchases, but this was an exceptional purchase. The device is easy to use, easy to install, and works very well with both apple and android phones, although for the latter, you will need to connect the device via a usb-c wire to use android auto. The sound quality is also great, which says a lot, because I am forced to use the radio receiver option as my car has no aux input. I would however recommend spending a few extra dollars to buy a different mount, which can be used if it has a ball joint that is the same size as the one the device uses, as I’ve always had issues with suction mounts…staying in place regardless of where they were from. I was able to find one mount that uses the now defunct cd player in my dash board, but I am sure there are other options available. You may have to do a little bit of research and searching on Amazon to find a one right for your needs, but you shouldn’t have to spend more than $10-$15 on this accessory. If you feel you shouldn’t need to spend any more $$ than the ~$280 this product costs, I understand where you’re coming from, but consider how much more it would cost to buy an embedded unit and then pay for installation in your dashboard at an auto shop (on top of the cost of the unit).

Today I did the installation and started using it in less than 15 minutes including the unpacking, very easy and straight forward. I have yet to re-route the cables a little better and accessories are included for that. The screen clarity looks better that the screen in my other brand new car, I did the installation on a very sunny Florida day and the screen maintained the clarity extremely well . The sound quality with the wireless FM connection was excellent and sounded as good as the wired connection, obviously the sound quality will depend on your sound system. The iPhone connected immediately with Bluetooth, no hiccups what so ever and if you connect the iPhone via cable it will also charge your phone. iPhone Lighting cable is not included but USB C is. I will repost if I encounter any issues but after my initial impressions I highly recommend the Intellidash Pro.

I purchased this (wireless version) hoping it would be something fairly useable and while to some extent it is.... its not. Im not sure this is the right android auto version (might work better for carplay). When i use my phone with other android auto cars and stereos it looks a bit different, has more options. in this one it says you can change to night mode but the maps never change. when going to the manufacturer website for an jupdate my virus scanner and browser warned me not to go to it and i had to allow it anyway... ... ... then when i got there no updates for the device were found. i reached out the the manufacturer but never heard anything back and am now returning this to amazon. aside from the night mode issue the screen is crazy bright and distracting at night... perhaps the night mode maps will help but i cant imagine enough to work well. that said, this connected well to my car and the sturdiness of the product as well as offering some android auto experience was beneficial, i just wish they were responsive to help fix it.
