For the money these are good weights. I have them in 5, 8,10 and 12 lb. The diameter of the grips varies depending on the weight and is fairly large on the 10 and 12 lb. weights. I am a woman about 5'8" and usually where large gloves so my hands are fairly large for a woman's. The grips are just barely OK for me on the 12 lb. weights but they might be a little uncomfortable for people with small hands. The neoprene coating is pretty thick and it makes the weights easy to grip and they feel like they are well balanced. However, the coating isn't 100% uniform, and on some of my weights there are little ridges and bumps where maybe the coating wasn't dipped and cured as well as it could have been. For me these small defects don't really affect the performance except that sometimes I can feel the little ridges/bumps under my hand a little bit depending on how I pick the weight up, but I don't feel like it would warrant going through the hassle of a return. I wonder if maybe all weights of this kind might have similar small defects as part of the manufacturing process. All in all these are good weights for the money and I'm glad I choose to get them instead of the vinyl ones. ... show more

I purchased the 2 pound version of this CAP barbell, which I use for physical therapy rehab. The price, a little more than $5, was substantially lower than other 2 pound barbells available. There were, however, two problems with this item: 1. The barbell arrived with two nicks in the neoprene coating. (See photo.) I cannot tell whether these resulted from handling before the package arrived or a manufacturing defect. 2. I do not have particularly large hands, but my hand barely fits in the space allowed on the bar for my hand. I have a one pound barbell made by another manufacturer that has more space for my hand. Despite these issues, this barbell works for me and serves the purpose for which I purchased it. ... show more

The product was what I expected - two 12-pound dumbbells. I almost despise using any metal dumbbells at the gym as they leave that nasty smell on your hands and you just leave feeling dirty so I wanted one that was coated to use at home. I was very excited to start using these when I received them. Both dumbbells were identical as one reviewer mentioned he received two slightly different ones. Although that may not affect your overall workout, that would bother me if they didn't match. I would also like to mention that the price for these on Amazon were the best price I could find. I couldn't believe how much other sites and stores were charging for one dumbbell. Or I didn't realize how expensive these can run but I was happy to have found these so I can complete my workouts at home when I can't get to the gym. When I'm ready to increase my weights I will definitely be purchasing the 15s. ... show more
