Why did you pick this product vs others?: The reviews kinda scared me, but I had already ordered and was too late to cancel. Happy ending, got a set of these 45 lb dumbells, and they seem good quality. My only gripe would be, unlke my much older, and lighter Caps (up to 40s), these have a textured pattern on the grip that is a little too spikey for my bare hands on a regular basis. But they are great with lifting gloves, and I can certainly use them bare handed from time to time if necessary. No weird casting flaws or jagged edges on this set. They could have packaged 'em better for shipping, but they both made it!

So my apologies, the older one on the right is “WEIDER” brand, but yeah you can check them out too, they all look the same offhand but clearly not ****Update**** Just received the 15lb grey single and it’s still miss-matched with the ones I already had. All 3 15lbs are shown in this photo with the middle being the newest. Slightly different grip and larger weight heads… I got a black one on the way, hoping to get a matching set but I might have to just get another new one for a matching set. CAP please upgrade your quality, and quality assurance to prevent nuisance's and frustrating customers and Amazon. After ordering, then reading product reviews. I was skeptical on reordering. I have two old ones that are pretty perfect other than not caring for them and building rust. The older ones are bigger and heavier and its sad and unfortunate that CAP doesn’t make them like they used to, but after reading up and searching for dumbbells, these are the safest as they’re iron, no smells or toxic chemicals. Now days they’ve taken a bit better care for shipping standards, box fully closed, stapled, and taped, foam stuffing and protection. Again, its unfortunate CAP amongst almost every other company in corporate america reduced the quality in everything. Keep in mind, wipe these down after use and sweat to prevent rust, other dumbbells even gym grade are expensive, coated with urethane for iron/metal protection and leave a smell and can be toxic. These are closer to the ideal choice, you can always use gloves to increase your protection. I got another one on the way, black 15, as it was the cheaper option, so we’ll see. I wish these were sold in stores, much easier to inspect and take home instantly.

I love the Cap brand weights. They are the right size for the handles so that I can lift them. Some of the other brands that handles are so big that you can't lift them. I also like that they're Square because I do Renegade rows on the floor and they don't roll away. There may be a little bit wider than I'd want but that's fine. They are high quality

I wish I could give 0 stars. 0 starts to cap for the quality of these dumbbells. 0 stars to amazon for the packaging. 0 stars to UPS for delivery. I bought a pair of the 65 lbs cast iron dumbbells. These were shipped and sold by Amazon. This was not even remotely worth the small savings over the rubber headed dumbbells I have bought many times through amazon. To begin, they ship these in a cardboard box and that is pretty much it. Only one dumbbell arrived on time. The box was absolutely shredded from trying to contain 65 lbs of iron. In fact, the dumbbell was falling out of the box when it arrived. The UPS man also just dumped this at the top of the driveway. This dumbbell has also defective. One of the welds was poorly done and visibly defective. I could feel the dumbbell head wobbling when pressed over head. That's scary for a 65 lbs dumbbell. The handle itself also was poorly finished. The second dumbbell arrived a week late. Its box was also destroyed and you could tell UPS had to add extra packing tape just to hold the box together. This was also dumped in the grass at the top of my driveway. It was even worse than the first dumbbell. The dumbbell head was extremely loose from the handle. I don't know if this is a defect or damaged in shipping. I guess it is probably both. I also received a replacement from Amazon for dumbbell #1. This time it didn't even arrive with a a box. There was literally just a shipping label zip tied to the dumbbell. The sad little cardboard box they ship these big dumbbells in must have been obliterated in transit. The dumbbell looks like it was dragged across concrete. Paint was chipped and peeling off. One corner looked ground down. The welds actually looked good on this one but there was too much physical damage from shipping. I am returning them all. Maybe these cast iron dumbbells would be a good option for lighter weights or if Amazon even remotely cared about packaging. I would never again consider trying to buy the heavier weights of these cast iron dumbbells. I didn't even get one functional/undamaged dumbbell from the three they sent. I recommend you the rubber coated dumbbells with the chrome handles. I have never had an issue with those.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: i picked these weights (i got 12 pounders) because they seemed plain & simple metal. i didn't want rubber or plastic parts that would potentially smell to high high heaven (some of that kind have been at my gym & the smell never went away). i read some of the reviews saying that these weights had sharp parts, i thought, ok, if that happens i'll file that part down. but no, they arrived & seem perfectly fine, & the amazon driver had a little work out as he delivered them to me. :) totally recommend.
