This camera is fairly compact, fairly easy to use, and has pretty good picture and audio. I have minor quibbles, but given how long I've searched for a satisfactory hi-def camera, I'm overall very pleased. Yes, I give it a B in every category, but that's still vastly better than the other cameras I've used. So overall I'm very happy with this purchase. (I've taken it on some rough travel and have video'd my band performances, so I've given it a fair bit of testing.) ... show more

    • Good enough to use to make a living!
I have a G10 and needed a second camera so I got this G20. Not much learning curve between them. I can still use my inventory of batteries and memory cards and the menu system is identical. Shooting in low light is so much better with this camera and the Manual/Cinema movie modes allow for more precise color controls (although I'm accustomed to altering hue and saturation in post production anyway). Overall, it feels like nothing more than a firmware upgrade from the G10, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially considering it costs less than the G10 did. I'd rather shoot with this than a digital SLR any day. It's lighter, more easily held and controlled with one hand and the picture quality is fantastic! ... show more

    • Refurbished Camera had Faulty Audio; NO RESPONSE FROM THIS SELLER!
The media could not be loaded. This model of camera appears to be a good one. I bought the same model two days before this refurbished one, and I used them both (and a third Canon camcorder) to record two productions: a large, full stage presentation and a small intimate songwriters' concert. The "new" camera worked perfectly. However, the "refurbished camera" that I received from Kaleidoscope has terrible audio. There is a huge hiss or interference that nearly obscures the actual program audio, thus making the recording nearly useless. It occurred on four different SDHC cards (two from each project) as well as the internal memory which I also tested after discovering the problem. This is undoubtedly the reason that the camera was returned and "refurbished" in the first place. Fortunately, I also use a Zoom digital recorder to record audio, and I had the sound from the sound board on the large concert, so I could get by (although having bad audio made the video from this camera much harder to sync in Final Cut Pro). If this had been my only camera, it would have been a complete disaster. I have included a 20-second clip from this camera. It was between four and six feet away from the subject. The camera that was 15 feet away picked it up quite clearly with zero noise interference. I contacted the seller through Amazon on March 9 (they were to respond within two working days). It is now a week later and they have still NOT responded. Because of editing three other projects, I did not listen to any of the recordings from this camera until I completed recording the second concert. Unfortunately, this turned out to be three days after the 30-day Amazon return period. I generally do not give negative reviews, and I have a number of positive ones, but this review is for the seller, not necessarily the camera. However, I would be wary of refurbished cameras from this company. It would appear that this may not have been refurbished at all, but merely resold. If that is not the case, then Kaleidoscope Electronics should prove it by replacing this defective camera with one that actually works. ... show more
