Aftermarket ink cartridges are a gamble I have lost before. Smeared prints, error messages, premature "empty" warnings, and one memorable incident involving a magenta leak that I would rather not revisit. I came back to genuine Canon cartridges and have stayed there. The XL versions of the 245 and 246 are the right call for the MX492 and other compatible PIXMA models. You get significantly more pages per cartridge compared to the standard size, which balances out the higher upfront price. Print quality is exactly what you expect from OEM ink: crisp text, clean color reproduction, and consistent performance from the first page to the last. Installation is simple: drop in, confirm, done. No error codes, no head cleaning cycles triggered by unrecognized cartridges. The printer just works. The main caveat is the same one that applies to all inkjet cartridges: keep your printer in standby mode rather than switching it off completely. Letting it sit powered off for long periods can cause the heads to dry out and waste ink on cleaning cycles. Buy XL, keep the printer on, and you will get solid mileage from each set. ... show more

I tried the off brand that was “guaranteed” to be just like the name brand of canon ink but it almost ruined my printer😡 but after a lot of trouble and the TRUE CANON INK my printer is now working, thank God! So if you have a canon printer please don’t take any chances just buy real canon ink!
