  • It removes strong shadows in Macro Photography! Awesome!
I have had the twin flash for 4 months and I have taken it on assignments on tough conditions. I live in the tropics and do macro photography and many of my subjects are in the rainforest. My subjects not only are small but most of the time are in vegetation that makes other flash systems difficult to use because of how far the light source is from the lens. I used to have many shadows when I used a standard flash. With the twin flash, the light goes with the lens! Moreover I am able to eliminate the strong shadows from my subjects by controlling the position of the heads. I might want one side to side or up and down (see frog pupils and you will see the light positions). Before I get my ass chewed for using flash on a frog, I have to say that the other nice feature of the lash is that you can control the output of each head independently and make it as weak as possible and rely on high ISO to compensate. You can see it by the pupils of the frogs not shrinking to a mere slit. There is a high learning curve though. The flash as a whole is a big contraption but it is what it is. It delivers the light and it is must have contraption for the serious macro photographers. My biggest problem with it is that it is bulky to carry assembled in a camera bag, but the pictures I get at the end of the day are totally worth dealing with its bulkyness. Maybe in the future the main part of the flash can be as big as the Canon radio transmitter ST-E3-RT! But something in my mind is clear, when the humidity of my country gets to the flash and kills it, I will have to buy one again! It is a must for my photography. Also a piece of advice to all photographers that come to the tropics, buy dry bags for your equipment! They have saved my equipment when I get caught in an unexpected torrential rain. ... show more

  • Pricey, but absolutely worth it
Absolute game changer for macro photography. Hooked this up to my 5d mk IV, snapped it onto the 100mm f1.8 (WHY do you need to buy an adapter for this to fit the brand's standard macro lens?), and just about exploded. Faster shutter speeds = more DOF = no more begging your subject to hold still. I threw a Raynox macro adapter on too, and this flash works just fine even if your subject is two inches from the lens. Diffusers work great too, nice soft light. Settings are just like the 680EX, essentially, except you can have one side or the other go off, or both. Does high speed sync, and suddenly I can catch photos of flies on the wing (provided I can get them in focus). It is STUPID expensive, but worth every penny. ... show more

  • Easier lighting
This light is great. I love that the lights are detachable, and have removable diffuser domes. The controls are easy to use and adjusting the power of each flash head is intuitive. I do wish it used a rechargeable battery pack instead. A great tool to add to a pro or amateur photography kit to get better easier images. ... show more

  • Disappointed in Canon
This ring flash is solidly built compared to a 3rd party one that I just returned BUT.... this one is so overly expensive, I expected it to be made out of gold. For the price, you don't even get a ring adapter - unless you pay for that separately! From what I've read in the user manual, this flash was designed for the 100mm and the 180mm macro lenses. Canon "could" have included both adapters for the price they charge. Shameful! ... show more

It was worth the wait. Macro is king again.

  • Missing parts
It didn’t come with the ring to hook the flashes onto the camera! I just opened it for my course and was quite bummed. Can’t even do my course now.
