  • Great Camera, Lens Mounting System is Disappointing
Style: With RF 18-150 IS STM Lens Set: Body with RF 18-150 IS STM Lens
I bought this camera as a return to the Canon system. I took it on a photography retreat. I am thrilled with the results. The animal tracking was able to handle whales unexpectedly surfacing. Most of my shots were in focus. If they were not it was my error. The only real complaint I have is with the lens. Canon has switched from a metal mount to a plastic one. ... show more

  • Lots Of Happy & Productive Moments Using This
Style: With RF 18-150 IS STM Lens Set: Body with RF 18-150 IS STM Lens
Been enjoying the R7 a lot since I've had it. It replaced the T7i which was quite a good camera, although only 1080p on the video, with this one having 4k and more functionality. The autofocus is great, easy to use, works great with my 300 mm telephoto lens, great quality and durable. Also love the 18-150mm lens that came with it, big improvement over the 18-55mm I'd been using before. ... show more

  • Great camera for Bird photography
Style: With RF 18-150 IS STM Lens Set: Body with RF 18-150 IS STM Lens
Love this camera. Works great for bird photography. The lens is a great multi purpose use lens. I also bought a 150-300mm lens to provide more reach, but the camera body is amazing. Still learning, but it’s not that difficult. You can start with auto and move to manual mode as you master the camera.

  • A very nice upgrade for my needs
Style: With RF 18-150 IS STM Lens Set: Body with RF 18-150 IS STM Lens
I started with a film 35 mm SLR camera decades ago and had a couple before switching to digital cameras. In the last decade or so, I've concentrated on bird photography. I had a Nikon P-900 which had an incredible zoom lens (2,000 mm equivalent!) but a tiny sensor, poor handling of whites (birds with white feathers lacked detail) and an inability to focus quickly enough for birds in flight. I switched to a Sony RX10 mkIV with a larger sensor, far better white handling and faster focusing at the expense of zoom (600 mm equivalent). It was a good camera and pretty flexible, but still not very good at birds in flight. When it started to fail, I researched a bit and decided to step up to a mirrorless camera with changeable lenses. The Canon EOS R7 got super reviews and it was recommended I get their RF-S 18-150mm and RF100-400 mm lenses. With a 1.6 factor on the RF lens, I now have a 640 mm equivalent. The sensor is even larger (giving better low-light pictures and somewhat higher resolution), the white handling is very good and the AI-based autofocus on animal eyes has been a revelation. Once I fussed around with the settings to get them to my liking, I am finding that birds in flight are almost easy. If I can get the birds in frame, I can probably get sharp pictures of them. It even works in fairly low light situations. At dusk last night I got several good shots of a Common Nighthawk fairly high over us that even shows the detail of the wing bars. The camera may actually be too much of a good thing for me. It has features that I may never get around to learning to use. I also kind of wish I hadn't bothered getting the RF-S 18-150 mm lens. It seems to be a fine lens but I just never seem to use it with my emphasis on bird photography. I might have been better off getting the Sony 1.4 telextender instead. But that's just me. I also find that the autofocus is far better on stills than on videos in some circumstances. I tried shooting videos of the Nighthawk last night (as they make an amazing sound at the bottoms of their dives) but in the lighting and the distance, the camera wouldn't come close to keeping the bird in focus while it had been having no problems in still mode. And, of course, there's the reality that the camera and the 100-400 mm lens together are bulkier and heavier that the only Sony or the even older Nikon. Still, a very, very good camera. Of course, now Sony has announced an RX10 mkV that includes AI-based autofocus on animal eyes for about the same price as I paid for the Canon and the two lenses. Which would be better? I suspect the Canon would still get me better pictures, though the Sony would be more compact and no need to change lenses. ... show more

  • Very satisfied
Style: With RF 18-150 IS STM Lens Set: Body with RF 18-150 IS STM Lens
Love this camera! Have been using it for about 2 years. It's no secret that it does struggle in low light situations but it is a solid performer overall. Great budget friendly camera with very nice features overall. In body stabilization, dual card slots and 32 megapixels were the deciders for me. It's been amazing. I have no complaints after buying this. ... show more
