Description

The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens that offers superior optical performance, plus a built-in Image Stabilizer. The IS system reduces the possibility of blurred photographs caused by camera shake, which allows for hand held photography in comparatively dim light without a flash or tripod. At the wide angle end of the zoom range, the equivalent shutter speed gain is approximately 1.5 stops while at the telephoto end, it is approximately 2 stops. Also, the lens has a USM drive mechanism for faster and quieter AF operation, and the pulse control diaphragm (EMD) ensures precise aperture control. Note! White Box products comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's packaging. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

  • A fantastic lens that stands up where it counts
A lot of people are comparing this lens to the 24-105L lens, which I guess is because KenRockwell picked this over it in terms of price and practicality, but putting a $200 used lens up against L glass is a pretty unfair comparison. Of course this isn't L glass, nor is it L construction or feel. Check the MTF charts, it's not going to be as sharp or have as much contrast, but let me say that it is a great lens for the kit-lens-owning photographer looking for a bump up. The focus on this lens is fast and accurate, and image quality is delicious, and you never have to fight with it to fix it on a focus point unlike a few other "all-purpose walkabout" lenses that I've used. Colors are vibrant and it's stellar throughout pretty much all of its range. The spinny-uppy IS is nice to grab a few extra stops when shooting in available light, too. I'm able to pull off shots that wouldn't be possible without a *pod or pushing up the ISO. I'm very thankful for that extra reach on this lens. Considering what this lens can be picked up for on the used market, it's an absolute steal. Buy it and use it every day. I've used it on a walk downtown, in the studio, and for product shots. It's even got a macro range that does wonderful things. I'm a huge fan of this lens, and can heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a good lens. It's not an L, duh. It's a fantastic all-purpose lens that produces lovely images without any drama. That's something we can all get behind. ... show more

  • Oldie but a goodie
I bought this lens due to the price and the fact that even though it's old, it's still reliable. I doesn't produce as sharp quality as an L series but then again, this is not an L series lens. You can hear a faint "winding" sound when the IS is on but you won't care as long as you get that shot. The 28-135mm means that you can get some good range without having to move around too much depending on what your subject is but the 3.5 to 5.6 aperture is not ideal for lowlight situations or for good bokeh. Still if you play around a bit you can get a nice bokeh effect and if you know how to be steady or use flash you should be fine for lowlight moments. I'm using this lens until the day arrives for when I can afford a L series lens. Even then I'll probably keep it because I won't get back what I paid for it anyway and what get rid of something useful? Works better on full frame camera's though you get more zoom on crop sensor dSLR's. ... show more

  • perfect ugrade from standard 18-55 kit lens
would've given this lens a 5 star if not for the loose zoom ring that was often described by other reviews. otherwise, it has great zoom range, fantastic macro capability and incredible sharpness once you get to learn to use hyperfocal distance. i use a canon rebel t3i with the standard 18-55mm IS kit lens, and for those like me who are just beginning to explore the world of photography but feel like their skills have outgrown their 18-55mm kit lens, this is the perfect next step. i have made this lens my walk-around lens ever since and have only purchased a canon ef 20-35mm wide-angle as my other lens for landscape photography. i don't own many lenses enough to make a critique or comparison in terms of build quality and weight or handling, i'll leave that to the experts. for an amateur like me, who's also on a limited budget, image quality is all i'm concerned about and i find it performs excellently in terms of my current skill level and current needs as a photographer. focusing is fast enough for me to get sharp images while shooting from a moving vehicle. the IS is a plus when shooting handheld and i find my bokeh shots are far better looking. i have yet to use it on video mode but overall, i would definitely recommend this lens for people who are looking to upgrade from the kit lens. ... show more

  • Great Lens-Great price
Great lens and great for the price- even though its not an L lens it performs very close to one. For the range and price its pretty darn sharp. 28-135 covers a pretty huge range and great for when you don't know distance you're going to need to shoot at, or when you constantly need to zoom in and then seconds later go back to wide. Plus 28 is pretty wide enough for most shots that i've needed. AND it has IS... that's huge for me with video. The biggest downside is the 3.5-5.6 f stop for situations in low light for video. ... show more

  • Great lens!
I used this lens to take photos at a wedding (I'm NOT a wedding photographer) and got wonderful results. I use it for my other types of photography, especially photographing live musicians.

  • Exactly what I needed...
I was not sure if this is actually a EF lens. It arrived yesterday and it is exactly what I needed. EF lenses are so hard to come buy nowadays and if one gets lucky, one has to pay the hefty price tag. This lens however is everything I was asking for and is a great value for the money.

  • Canon 18-135
My lens arrived in an Amazon bag with no lens cover. Tried it out and the auto focus did not work above 55 mm (28-135), manual focus worked though. Also stated at 135 the lens gave an error code of 1 saying the contacts need cleaning. Contacted the company and they will take it back so I give them a good rating for that only. The telephoto was choppy when using. ... show more

  • It's Okay... but not that great....
It's Okay but not that great.... This is a good lens to start at photography... but if you want pictures that are really sharp... go for the L series lenses... they are a bit more expensive... but worth the prize....
