I don't usually write reviews but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of these gate cane rods so I had to share. The setup and short rods that came with my "professionally" installed 6 ft. wood fence were a joke. Nice thick powder coating on these should keep them rust free for quite a while. Nice sturdy brackets and the 24 in. long rods allowed a good 6-8 inches of rod to go into the ground. I put a galvanized steel pipe with 3/4 in. inner diameter into the ground for the rods to extend into. The only thing I did different during installation was that I used different screws. The kit comes with 15/16 in. long, #12 thick screws. I used those on the wraparound part of the brackets where the halves of the gate meet. But, I purchased 1/4" thick X 2 in. long painted black lag bolts at Lowe's and used those on the back sides of the brackets. Didn't even have to open up the holes in the brackets and lag bolts went right thru. Everything is super tough and secure now and gates should be able to withstand bad weather with wind gusts pushing back and forth. A bit pricey but I recommend these. You and you get what you pay for. Nothing like these were available at any of our local home improvement stores.

Easily attached to wooden gate to keep on side closed. Used a a piece of pvc pipe in ground to “receive” and hold the cane in place. Would have been nice if this was included

Has been used to keep an obnoxious family Dog from pushing the gate open. I also added wire fencing along the wooden gates. Order came as expected with accouterments. The screws to attach appear to be sheet metal screws, but they worked for the wooden gates. The hardware seems sturdy, and the rods are heavy duty and were easy to install.

I have installed several gates over the past few years. My latest gate project was a double gate, double swing gate across an 8' gap. Each gate panel is approximately 4 feet wide, and swings both forward and back. Since there is so much movement of each panel, one of them needed to be pinned, to keep the wind from blowing both open. My gate panels are 6' tall as well, so they are rather large. There is also a 4" to 6" gap at the bottom. I needed to have a long gate pin, because the attachment points of the pin needed to be close to the middle of the gate. With a shorter pin, it would have to be mounted lower and would cause the gate to twist and possibly warp in the wind. A longer pin allowed for me to mount it higher, and allow a longer 'working throw' so that the pin wouldn't dangle and snag. I installed some 3/4 pipe sections into the ground beneath the pins to allow the pin to engage positively into the ground below. One pipe section is in the "gate closed" position, and I have another in one of the "gate open" positions, to keep the wind from moving the gate panel. The best feature I like about this gate kit is the "pin up" holder. This catches the handle of the pin, when it is in the "up" position. The keeps the pin from dragging on the ground, and makes for a much cleaner look to the gate.

Super sturdy, feels well made/good quality. Packaging was also sturdy. Installation, while obviously with a few unspoken rules, isn't crystal clear and requires some thought based on the fence it's going on. My horizontal supports for instance, have more distance between them than the distance of the entire bolt length so I'll have to add wood to the spot on the fence where the bolt is needed. For me, not a big deal, only need time to do it - but for some it may not be an option to do that step. The packaging comes with no guidelines for use so you're on your own to make it work if your particular fence doesn't have meat (wood) VERTICALLY to mount to. I'm pleased with my purchase and look forward to the weekend when I'll have more time to make it work the way I know it can.
