    • FIts Camera and adds tons of fucntionality
Fit my t3i perfect and does not impact the battery door. Adds so much functionality for adding any other gear to your camera. I even realized I could now mount my camera 90 degrees on my tripod using the side rod. I recommend using this on a tripod with a quick release plate, but it is not necessary. The cage adds a nice amount of heft to the camera making handheld work even more enjoyable. The wood grip is very nice. The side handle can loosen over a long period of time, but not to the point where your camera will be in danger. Once you notice its loose, just tighten it down again and its rock solid all day. It will help stabilize your handheld shots, not like a gimbal or slider obviously, but it noticeably helps. I added a top handle attachment for even more grip options.     • Good cage, but handle loosens easily.
Love the cage as does most of what it needs to do really well (fits my DSLR, easy to set up, two sizes of cheese bars make it very adaptable, provides lots of attachment points for accessories, and is light weight), plus the handle is very comfortable. However the handle loosens after just a few minutes of use as the knurled bolts are hard to torque enough to stay tight. Recommend getting the kit without the handle and getting a different handle that has hex head bolts allowing you to use a wrench. ... show more

    • Works for Nikon d 7000 and d 500.
It's hard to find a cage that will claim it fits a Nikon D500. This one advertises it's good for the D7000, a slightly smaller camera I also have. The unit works with either one, and I was able to tilt the handle on the right side so i could reach the buttons on the front and back. I am not an expert on the use of this equipment so I can't speak to the quality-per-price-vs-competition, but this seems to be doing what i want. I am making a tripod rig with a wireless sound receiver and a Blade HDMI capture screen, more than I really wanted weighing down the flash shoe. ... show more

    • Nice little starter cage
Including instructions would be nice. But setup is pretty self-explanatory without them. It took me a little bit to figure out that you're supposed to attach the top plate into the hot shoe of the camera. My Canon 5D4 *BARELY* fits. You have to loosen all the screws, install the camera, then tighten everything back up. Once you do that the cage fits and works well. The wooden handle could be a little bigger but still feels good in my hand. Add some cold shoe mounts and you're off and running. ... show more

    • Good flexible starter cage
It's solid enough for a cheap rig-- but the screw holes dont have much give and its easier than on other cages i've used to accidentally break off a screw, leaving a hole unusable. This is obviously something that can be fixed with being careful, but we all make mistakes. Also: factor into the cost all the accessories you'll need, starting with a top handle. I'm also not a huge fan of how the included wooden grip handle feels, as aesthetically pleasing as it may be-- it needs a little more depth. All in all, surprisingly sturdy and the price is right-- worth the extra $20 over those box-cages if you're just getting started. ... show more

    • A decent cage!
The Camvate cage is a decent product for the money. I bought this to fit a Fuji X-T20, and it does fit, but you'll need to adjust this cage a bit more than other cameras, do to the X-T20's hotshoe being offset from the bottom 1/4-20 mount. You'll also need to remove the bottom portion of this cage entirely to change the battery on the X-T20. Of course, this isn't Camvate's fault, it's nature of the beast with this Fuji model! The cage attaches to the bottom 1/4-20, and the top hotshoe mount, you need nothing extra to buy, the top hotshoe mount is included! You'll notice the wooden handle is on the left side of the cage, you can reverse this with a few caveats, that being, the wood handle will be bottom side up to allow the finger notches to face outward, and the carved out thumb on the top is now on the bottom, but it works! There is also plenty of 1/4-20 mounting options on the top and bottom cheese plates! All in all, not a bad cage for a universal fit! ... show more
